I am suffering from varicose veins. I have much of pain in my legs. Can you suggest me something to improve this pain level.

MSc in Orhopedic Physiotherapy (UK), BPTh/BPT
Physiotherapist, Bangalore
If you have varicose veins, you can help control the problem and keep it from getting worse if you: wear compression stockings. Take care of yourself. Your self-care includes: exercising. Staying at a healthy weight. Elevating your legs. Avoiding long periods of sitting and standing. If your varicose veins need further treatment, or if they are causing complications, the type of treatment will depend on your general health and the size, position and severity of your veins. A vascular specialist (a doctor who specialises in veins) will be able to advise you about the most suitable form of treatment for you.

I am having back pain for the last few days. What can be the possible reasons for the same. Do I need to get an xray or what ?

Dip. SICOT (Belgium), MNAMS, DNB (Orthopedics), MBBS
Orthopedist, Delhi
Hi thanks for your query and welcome to lybrate. I am Dr. Akshay from fortis hospital, new delhi. There are many causes of pain in lower back region. It can be due to faulty posture, related to weak muscles, issues with intervertebral disc, narrowing of spinal canal, any bony instability besides many other, so accurate diagnosis is the key to proper management of the condition. If you have localized back pain of mild to moderate intensity and with no other symptoms like radiating leg pain, neurological symptoms like numbness, weakness, paresthesias etc, then you can start with conservative management for 2-3 weeks. If there is no improvement, then I will advise you what x rays need to be done. Do not hesitate to contact me if you need any further assistance. You can also discuss your case and treatment plans with me in a greater detail in a private consultation.

Can trigger point myofascial pain treat by homeopathy? If yes then which medicine should be use? Help.

DHMS (Diploma in Homeopathic Medicine and Surgery)
Homeopath, Ludhiana
Myofacial pain syndrome can be effectively cured by homoeopathy but for this a proper case taking is required in which you will have to provide detailed description ofyour present complaints, history of present complaints, the areas or points where you feel the pains comparitively more, since when are you facing this problem, your marital status and your relation with your husband and other family members and if your pains have anything to do with your marital relations--------------so in a case taking everything is required to reach to a totality and medicine selected accordingly--------------so my suggestion for you is either to provide me everything you can which you think is helpful in your problem or vissit a local good homoeopath who can guide you to the best of his abilities--------

I am 65 yrs old and an accident one year before. There were fractures in my pelvic bone. I was advised bed rest and physiotherapy. But now since last two months I am unable to sit at one place not more than half an hour. All my muscles are paining. I get tingling in the morning. Also suffering from fever which is 99 to 100, my routine is disturbed. I have done blood tests and on vit b 12 and d 3 injections. Almost now more than a month but no improvement. Kindly suggest what must be the reason and what medication I should take.

DNB, MBBS
Orthopedist, Delhi
If u have fever, we have to find the cause of fever and site. Get hb, tlc, dlc, esr and pcr for tb and uric acid levels (blood tests). X rays of the painful joint will have to be done. Treatment will depend on the cause of fever. Get your bone density 3 sites. Done too, maybe pain is due to weak bones. The above scan will be done when you' re off calcium for a minimum of 3 days. Vitamin d and b12 supplementation will continue.

Hi thanks for your query and welcome to lybrate. She is young with multiple issues. She needs to get in an active lifestyle. - regular physical therapy initially in supervision of a physiotherapist - brisk walks for 2-3 km/day in morning - adequate supplementation for calcium and vitamin d - get her cbc, esr, crp and serum electrolyte levels to see whether there is any deficiency, it can be supplemented - thyroid status should be in check and I ask for consultation with a general physician for it. Using Adderall over an extended period can increase the risk of critical cardiovascular problems and strokes. There are also significant mental health issues associated with the long-term use of Adderall, such as depression, hostility and paranoia.

This could be due to oa knee &/or obesity. Physiotherapy along with medicines will help. Rule out diabetes & vit. D deficiency or any other metabolic disorder. Sleep on a hard bed with a soft bedding on it. Any way take bio d3 max 1tab odx10days ibuprofen 200mg od & sos x 5days do knee exercises. Advice. Avoid sitting cross legged. Avoid squatting- quadriceps exercises- lie straight, make a towel role and put it under the knee, press the keen against the role, hold it for 20 secs. Repeat 20 times twice a day. This will help relieve some pain. Core strengthening exercise- straight leg raised with toes turned outward, repeat 10 times, twice a day. Hams stretching- lie straight, take the leg up, pull the feet towards yourself, with a elastic tube or normal belt. Repeat 10 times, twice a day. Sports taping- stretch the tape from both ends and apply on the affected area contrast fomentation (hot and cold).

I am 22 years old, I have backache from pas two weeks, now what can I do, please help me and give me a suggestion for healthy?

MD - Anaesthesiology
Anesthesiologist, Rohtak
Hi lybrate-user. See backpain is a something which is becoming epidemic nowadays. You need to be causious. Use support for back while working. Driving. You should be fit at your age. You must be working long long hours and sitting under stress without any spine support. Use cushions regularly. I myself have such a busy schedule I do not heed to my spine and at nite the pain takes its toll. So please be careful. If its excrutiating use analgesics like paracetamol 1000 mg stat or diclofenac but these have sideeffevts too. So best is prevention.
