Does stress increase the chances of developing infertility in a man i.e. Does stress reduce the sperm count in a man? What are the solutions/ remedies prescribed?

MD - Obstetrtics & Gynaecology, MBBS
Gynaecologist,
Does stress increase the chances of developing infertility in a man i.e. Does stress reduce the sperm count in a man?...
YES, stress can effect a persons sperm production and even erections so sex does affect reproduction and it is better to keep life relatively stress free to achieve good results. When ever a man faces stress either at work or in social life he can reduce stress by pursuing various habits like singing, or cracking a joke or meditating or even engaging in exercises. This and many more measures can be used to relieve stress. Some men tend to smoke or drink to reduce stress. But there is NO one in this world who doesnt have stress, so it is better to face stress and reduce stress by healthy means rather than indulging in vices

I am loosing my hair quickly when I wash my hair and using comb, and always pain in my head. What I can? Please help me.
Losing your hair can do serious damage to your self-esteem. But luckily, there are plenty of options to help you fight it. Hair loss is very common these days because of increased stress, nutritional deficiencies, lack of exercise and increase intake of junk food. Other causes of hair fall could be genetic, hormonal imbalances, under-active thyroid gland, and insufficient blood circulation in the scalp. There are many treatment options for hair loss including medications, home remedies. There are various over the counter medications available for preventing hair loss, but you need the ones most suitable to your hair type to get effective results.  Home remedies would include oiling your hair more often, include Amla/Indian gooseberry in your diet to promote new hair growth, apple cider vinegar can be effective to control hair fall and it gives soft and manageable hairs.

You can take Ultrasonic therapy in one of the nearby physiotherapy clinics which would help to heal the damaged cartilages along with shortwave diathermy which would help to improve the blood circulation.

What to Do About Stretch Marks on Penis Skin?

MD - General Medicine
Sexologist, Delhi
What to Do About Stretch Marks on Penis Skin?

What to Do About Stretch Marks on Penis Skin

When someone hears the term "stretch marks," they usually think of pregnant women and their round, full bellies. But marks can happen anywhere on the body. Despite the best penis care and attention possible, men might sometimes wind up with marks in the groin area, on the scrotum and yes, even on the penis skin.

The good news is that marks aren't a sign of any underlying medical condition. Sometimes they just happen. There is other good news as well; it is possible to reduce the appearance of stretch marks on penis skin. Here's what a man needs to know.

Why did the stretch marks appear?

Stretch marks are hallmarks of changing body size. Women often wind up with after pregnancy, as their skin has stretched to its limits while growing a baby. Some people wind up with marks after puberty, when they go through a growth spurt that puts inches and weight on their frame. And still others get stretch marks when they gain a few too many pounds.

So how does a man wind up with stretch on the penis skin? When the skin stretches to accommodate an erection, it might be enough to cause those tiny, painless tears in the dermis. Over time, those tears turn into the long, silvery trails of marks.

But that doesn't explain stretch marks on the scrotum. In most cases, in areas that aren't normally stretched happen with very slight tears. For instance, a man who sits down in the wrong way and feels a slight tug on the testicles might immediately stand back up, shift things around, and sit back down. This happens so often that he might not even really register that he's doing it. But sure enough, even that bit of discomfort from stretching can be enough to create a tiny stretch mark.

What to do about stretch marks

Men will be quite relieved to know that stretch marks don't mean anything in terms of other medical problems. They are so natural and happen to so many people that several studies, as well as anecdotal evidence, point to marks simply being an annoying part of everyday life.

But for a man, stretch marks on the penis can mean much more than annoyance. A guy's self-esteem might take a huge hit if he looks down to see unsightly on his equipment. That can lead to social embarrassment, a hesitation to show his penis to potential partners, and even problems with performing.

For men whose intimate life is negatively affected by stretch marks, there are a few options. A good dermatologist might offer certain therapies, such as laser therapy or microdermabrasion, that can lessen the appearance of marks. In order to get the best results from any sort of treatment, a man should seek out help during the first six weeks or so, when the marks are still reddish or purple in color. During this time, the skin is much more likely to heal.

One of the best ways a man can help reduce the appearance of stretch marks is through crèmes that are appropriate for the situation. One of those should be a top-notch penis health crème (health professionals recommend Man 1 Man Oil, which is clinically proven mild and safe for skin). A man wants plenty of hydration to help ensure his penis skin stays as smooth and supple as possible, which allows it more room to stretch during erections. A crème that contains not only Shea butter, but vitamin E as well, can help a man keep the penis skin as healthy as possible. Other nutrients, including retinol and alpha lipoic acid to help fight the signs of aging, can help keep the penis skin handsome.

Kidney Stones: Best Way To Treat It

Interventional Nephrology, DM - Nephrology, MD - General Medicine, MBBS
Nephrologist, Bangalore
Kidney Stones: Best Way To Treat It

Kidney stones are often small enough and pass through urine without much bother. Most kidney stones are smaller than 4 mm in diameter. Having said this, even the smallest of kidney stones can be really painful until they pass through urine (learn more what Urine Says About Your Health). It typically takes a couple of days for the body to get rid of it. While medication and self-care are the foremost options, there are a range of other options as well available for treating kidney stones.

Admission to a Hospital-

You must get admitted to a hospital if the stone moves to the ureter, thereby resulting in severe pain. Typically kidney stones which are more than 6 mms in diameter need to be surgically removed through procedures such as ureteroscopy, percutaneous nephrolithotomy (PCNL), open surgery and extracorporeal shock wave lithotripsy (ESWL). A doctor takes a call on any of the above procedure if:

  1. The patient is inching towards a kidney failure.

  2. The pain doesn’t go away even after taking pain killers.

  3. If the patient is pregnant (learn more about for healthy pregnancy)

  4. If the patient is more than 60 years.

Extracorporeal Shock Wave Lithotripsy (ESWL)-

ESWL is one of the simple and most preferred stone removing procedures. It involves the usage of ultrasound shock waves to break the bigger stones into smaller ones. The latter is then passed through urine. A patient is given a few painkillers since this mode of treatment could be a little uncomfortable. A patient might need multiple ESWLs to successfully get rid of all the stones.

Ureteroscopy:

If a stone gets stuck in the ureter, a medical procedure known as the ureteroscopy is performed. In this procedure, a thin telescope is passed through the urethra and bladder to the ureter. Either a second instrument is used or the telescope itself has laser energy to break the bigger stone into smaller ones. This procedure is ideal for stones that have a diameter more than 15 mm.

Percutaneous Nephrolithotomy (PCNL)

PCNL is an alternative to ESWL for removing big stones. This procedure involves the usage of nephroscope that is routed into the kidney through a small incision made behind the back of the patient. This procedure requires general anesthesia and is effective for breaking stones that have a diameter of 20 mm or more. It has a success rate of 86%.

Open Surgery:

This is one of the older methods to eradicate kidney stones. Unless the stone size is abnormally large and other procedures cannot be performed, open surgery is generally avoided. An open surgery involves making an incision and getting access to the ureter and the kidney. The surgeon then removes the stone from the kidney. This procedure requires general anesthesia and the patient needs to be under observation for at least 24 hours, post surgery.
