Smoking and pitch of the voice is not related. You need to specify how does your voice sound. Is it like female. If it is like female you need to go for voice Assessment and therapy.

How to treat stuttering. I talk normally like a normal person but I stutter a bit with few words. And that is the reason I speak alone with myself sometimes to improve my words. But my family find it crazy. And I do not do it in public like a complete mad but sometimes it gets unintentionally. Tell me how to stop talking to myself. I wonder a lot about many things. And now this is bigger problem than stuttering.

Psychiatrist, Chennai
Stammering or stuttering is typically recognised by a tense struggle to get words out. This makes it different from the normal non-fluency we all experience which includes hesitations and repetitions. Commonly it involves repeating or prolonging sounds or words, or getting stuck without any sound (silent blocking). Sometimes people put in extra sounds or words. Often people lose eye contact. Some people who stammer talk their way round difficult words so that you may not realise they stammer at all. This avoidance of words, and avoidance of speaking in some or many situations, is an important aspect of stammering. Stammering varies tremendously from person to person and is highly variable for the person who stammers who may be fluent one minute and struggling to speak the next. Get an mri brain and eeg with a psychiatrist evaluation.

You are having stage/social anxiety. When you go in front of people feel confident, before going to talk rehearse your talk in front of mirror or parents, friends. Once you are on the stage look at a face which is familiar to you but keep on moving your eyes from one familiar face to another. You can also speak while looking at some audience's shoulder but keep shifting your eyes, this will give the audience the impression that you are talking to them and you will also not be nervous.

I am 29 year old. I feel scared for no reason. Specially in winters. I can't speak .I start to feel uncomfortable to talk even with my closer ones. My mind stops working. My heartbeats become uncontrollable. It's happening since my childhood. I get fainted. Feel like exhausted. My confidence level gets at the lowest level. My throat dries and I can't speak anything.

Hello lybrate-user What you are mentioning seems to be related to the onset of winters. It is due to reduced sunlight that you maybe feeling the way you do, what you could do first is get exposure of sun, exercise and increased outdoor activity are believed to be very beneficial and also consult a psychologist for further therapy. Feel free to contact me for further query.

Dear Lybrate user. In many of the cases Stammering has two important reasons. Vocal chord misalignment or other problems are the primary reason. For this vocal chord complaint, you should consult an ENT specialist and get it corrected. Second reason is purely psychological. Stammer therapy can help you in psychological reasons. Take care.
