How can I keep my teeth shiny white? As now they are pale yellow. Please advise.
Here is home remedy for brighter teeth--- mix several teaspoons of baking soda with enough fresh lemon juice (or water) to make a paste. Wipe your teeth and any extra saliva off of them with a paper towel. Put a good amount of paste onto your toothbrush and apply. Leave the paste on for 1 minute, then rinse, so as to avoid the acid effecting enamel. If you are using just water you can leave it on for up to 3 minutes. For faster result you can go for teeth bleaching from dentist.

The Role Of Implants In Dentistry!

BDS
Dentist, Delhi
The Role Of Implants In Dentistry!

A dental implant is a titanium post which mimics the root of the tooth and it’s surgically positioned into your jawbone beneath the gum line. After the implant is positioned, your dentist mounts replacement teeth or a bridge to replace a tooth or teeth that have fallen off, into that area.

Implants are a very useful new way to replace teeth that have been lost due to ageing, gum disease or trauma.

Benefits-
The options which were earlier available to replace missing teeth were an ordinary bridge which was attached to teeth on either side of the space left by the missing tooth.

  1. A big advantage of implants is that no adjacent teeth need to be chipped or ground down to hold your new replacement tooth or teeth in place.
  2. Dental implants allow you to speak without the worry that teeth might slip. It gives you improved speech.
  3. An implant also is better for maintaining dental health as it does not have to be anchored to other teeth, like bridges.
  4. Dental implants function like your own teeth, allowing you to eat your favorite foods with confidence and without pain.
  5. Implants also don’t come loose as dentures can.

Because implants fuse to the jawbone, they provide stable support for artificial teeth. This means dentures and bridges mounted to implants don’t slip or shift in your mouth. This helps you eat and speak normally.

This secure fit also makes the dentures and bridges mounted over implants feel more natural than bridges or dentures.

Some people can’t get ordinary bridges and dentures because of sore spots, poor ridges or gagging and for them, implants are a heaven send.

Should you get implants?

You can only get implants if you must have healthy gums and adequate bone to support the implant. If your bone is too thin or soft you may have to get a bone graft first.

You should also be committed to keeping your implants healthy. For this, you should be committed to meticulous oral hygiene and regular dental visits as these will ensure the long-term success of your dental implants.

Types-

Two types of implants are considered safe by the American Dental Association. They are:

  1. Endosteal implants —These are surgically implanted directly into your jawbone. This is followed by a second surgery to connect a post to the original implant after the surrounding gum tissue has healed. And finally, an artificial tooth or teeth is attached to the post. This can be done individually or grouped on a bridge or denture.
  2. Subperiosteal implants — These consist of a metal frame that is fitted onto your jawbone. After the gums heal, the frame automatically becomes fixed to the jawbone. After these artificial teeth are mounted onto the posts, which are attached to the frame, and left to protrude through the gums just like with endosteal implants.
  3. Implants are very natural but they are expensive than other dentures or bridges, the other methods of teeth replacement. If you wish to discuss about any specific problem, you can ask a free question.

Malocclusion and Its Effect on Maintaining Oral Health

BDS
Dentist, Gurgaon
Malocclusion and Its Effect on Maintaining Oral Health

Malocclusion refers to the general arrangement of teeth and the manner in which the lower and upper sets of teeth fit. In optimal conditions, the upper set of teeth should fit slightly over the lower set of teeth. Malocclusion is a condition wherein the teeth are improperly aligned. Often, malocclusion tends to be a hereditary condition. The symptoms that indicate the occurrence of malocclusion include:

  1. Abnormal teeth alignment.

  2. Irregular facial appearance.

  3. Discomfort or difficulty during chewing or biting.

  4. Mouth breathing (breathing using the mouth instead of the nose).

Malocclusion and Oral Health-

  1. Malocclusion, also known as bad bite, is capable of affecting your overall oral health. This is because crowded and crooked teeth tend to hinder the proper cleaning of the mouth. This leads to tooth decay, gum diseases and even tooth loss.

  2. Malocclusion has a negative impact on the maintenance of oral health. Studies showed individuals without malocclusion were able to maintain a better oral hygiene in comparison to those with the condition.

  3. The improper alignment of teeth makes it rather difficult for the brush to reach in certain parts of the teeth thereby failing to remove bacteria and germs from particular areas for an extended period of time. This results in bad breath.

  4. It also makes flossing difficult and it creates hindrance in the way of maintaining proper oral hygiene.

  5. The improper adjustment of teeth leads to gum decay owing to the faulty cleaning. It promotes the growth of harmful bacteria that leads to weakening of tooth and gums.

  6. Owing to the misalignment of teeth, chewing becomes difficult. This often goes to hamper and mar the way one speaks as well. Malocclusion also results in wearing off of the tooth enamel. This the teeth to appear yellow due to the inability of the brush to reach every place. If you wish to discuss about any specific problem, you can consult a dentist and ask a free question.

Don't worry. You can wait for some more time after which you can get an x-ray done from a dentist to see its development. Make sure, she doesn't keep her thumb or finger over it frequently.

Hello Lybrate user, if orthodontic extractions were required for your previous Orthodontic treatment (braces, and avoided for whatever reasons then it is important to undergo a retreatment. Since you are not satisfied with the results, and as your teeth were not extracted, there's a possibility of getting tooth extracted in this retreatment provided if interproximal stripping of tooth was not done. Regarding your age, Orthodontic treatment can be done at any age as long as you have healthy gum support and excellent oral hygiene. Adult Orthodontics is very common nowadays, hence you need not worry about your age. As for your treatment please consult an Orthodontist (braces specialist) for a detailed treatment plan. Regards.

The dos and don'ts of dental care during pregnancy

BDS, Diploma in Hospital Administration, Diploma in Pharmacy

The dos and don'ts of dental care during pregnancy?
Among the many steps you are taking to ensure a healthy pregnancy (prenatal visits, vitamins, good nutrition, exercise plans, etc.) should be dental care. Oral health is important not only for you, but for the health of your baby as well. Some dental problems may cause a greater risk for complications during pregnancy. And, the changes your body is going through, such as increased blood flow, can amount to dental problems that you have not previously experienced. The following are some conditions you will be at a higher risk for:
Pregnancy gingivitis- affects nearly 50% of expecting women and results in red, swollen gums that can cause tenderness and bleeding.
Pregnancy tumors- are non-cancerous tumors found on the gums as a result of gingivitis and dental plaque. They are harmless and usually recede after you have your baby, but see your dentist if you have pain or concerns.
Periodontal disease- without proper attention and oral hygiene, pregnancy gingivitis can turn into periodontal disease- an infection that attacks periodontal tissues and can pose a serious threat to pregnant women.
Here are some quick guidelines to help you avoid these conditions during pregnancy.
Do: try and schedule a visit to the dentist office if you are planning on becoming pregnant. That way your teeth can be professionally cleaned, your mouth can be examined, and any issues can be addressed prior to pregnancy.
Don't: avoid dental check-ups just because you are pregnant. Schedule a visit in your second trimester and make sure to tell your dentist of your condition as well as any medications you might be taking.
Do: pay attention to any changes in your gums during pregnancy. If you notice changes or are concerned, consult with your dentist.
Don't: have dental x-rays taken during pregnancy except during an emergency. As long as you keep your dental staff informed, they will work to take every necessary precaution to ensure your healthy pregnancy is a priority.
Do: continue regular brushing and flossing habits- even if you are suffering from morning sickness. If your toothpaste is too strong, ask your dentist to recommend a more bland type. Try to rinse your mouth with water after vomiting to remove harmful acids from your teeth.
Don't: have elective dental work done during pregnancy. While regular cleanings and maintenance are not harmful, it's best to avoid things like cosmetic procedures until after your baby is born.
Do: eat right for your baby and for your teeth. Baby's first teeth start developing around month three into your pregnancy. Healthy diets containing, milk, cheese, yogurt and other dairy products are a great source of essential minerals that are important for your dental health, as well as baby's developing teeth, gums and bones.

Hello, pain could be because of tooth decay or eruption of wisdom tooth, you need to visit a dentist and get it checked. Get an x-ray done if required. If there is cavity get it filled. If there is infection to the root of the tooth, you need to get it treated. If the pain is because of wisdom tooth you can do salt water rinses, this will help to relieve your pain temporarily. If required get it removed.

Hi, There are various reasons of bad breath, like impurities in blood, inefficient digestive system, dry mouth (lack of saliva production), gum disease, cavities, plaque and tartar formation around teeth and gums, kind of diet, improper brushing / cleaning of mouth etc. I would advise you to get a thorough physical and dental examination to rule out the cause of bad breath and to solve it permanently.
