Hello, first of all you should know what is backache and by which factors it caused and aggravated. The usual cause of low back pain is the sedentary lifestyle that we lead these days. There is hardly any movement. walking, running and cycling like activities are also not a part of our daily routine. To add to it, our diet consists more and more of junk food. Fresh fruits, vegetables and high fibre foods are consumed less and less. These daily practices lead to obesity. The increased body weight puts lot of pressure on the spine which has to bear all the extra unwanted weight. The back muscles which are already weak due to lack of exercise and wrong posture are unable to cope with this increased load. This causes pain in the back muscles. backache Management for Back Pain:-Along with medicines for relieving pain, one needs to identify the cause and correct it. This may require some medicines or some correction in your posture or reducing weight or improving your lifestyle. At the same time, there is a need to work on the local muscle strengthening. Back muscles need to be strengthened so that they can bear the weight of the upper body. For this exercises of the back muscles are very helpful. Regular walking is also very helpful as it is a wholesome exercise of the body, improves blood circulation and helps lose weight. Most importantly if you are overweight then losing weight is an important part of the whole treatment plan .Long term use of painkillers for low back pain is harmful Treatment for back pain:- Homeopathic medicines are very helpful. They not only treat the acute stages but are also used for the treatment of chronic back pain.Selection of the exact remedy depends upon the individual symptoms of the person.So share the complete symptom picture for the proper treatment. Hi thanks for your query and welcome to lybrate. I am Dr. Akshay from fortis hospital, new delhi. You are very young to actually have persistent back pains. If you have localized back pain with no other symptoms like radiating leg pain, neurological symptoms like numbness, weakness, paresthesias etc, then you can start with following recommendations for initial period of 2-3 weeks: - to maintain proper posture of your back while working and sleeping - if pain is more then you can take a short course of an anti-inflammatory medication like tab etoshine or paracetamol or one which suits you - physical therapy initially under supervision of a trained physiotherapist and then to continue at home - adequate calcium & vitamin d intake if levels are low in body - ice packs can applied if your pain is acute, then hot fomentation can be done at home - analgesic spray for local application can be used and is easily available. - avoid lifting heavyweight/ acute forward bending in mornings etc we will observe you for next 2-3 weeks how you respond to this conservative management protocol. If you are not feeling better, then we will have to get some investigations like, dynamic x rays of lower back and few blood tests for evaluation. I am a 69 years old man suffering from joint pains. Specially lower back lumber is bothering one. About 20 years back I was advised surgery of spine since my MRI scan had shown abnormality at L 3 -4-5. After very ten or fifteen yards I had to rest for a while and move again. I refused surgery since doctors did not guarantee 100% recovery . I tried every alternate treatment available including physiotherapy many a times. All these years I did feel discomfort but could manage my life reasonably well. I do fallow many do's and don'ts advised by orthopedic doctors. Lately it's not only my lumber but knee, and shoulder have also been bothering me . Climbing steps to even 2nd floor I am not comfortable . I even get breathless . About a month back it appeared 20 years back situation is going to bother me again but some how of its own it improved and it's much better now. Please advise. I am a retired man with a meager source of income. Please NOTE I am with a solitary kidney. I did take medicine for gaout and BP for some time. Now I ain't taking any medicine. My BP reading normally is found to be around 90/140. God bless you.

Surgery should be the final resort only after all the other non invasive treatments have failed. I hope that the physiotherapy treatment that you have taken included exercise for back extensor strengthening, postural correction and use of braces. Due to the solo kidney working out and age factor the stress on the kidney to retain calcium and other minerals is doubled. Your blood pressure too is of concern. A fresh healthy vegetarian diet to compensate for the allopathy medicine and for your kidney along with isometric exercises for all the joints should manage the situation well for you.

Why Do I Get Knots in Muscles in Neck and Back ?

What are muscle knots?
Muscle knots are points within a muscle where contracted fibers are unable to release, or, as the dictionary puts it: highly irritable localized spots of exquisite tenderness in a nodule in palpable taunt bands of muscle tissue.

A common problem for active people, muscle knots technically called myofascial trigger points, or mtps feel like a small knot to your fingertips. These knots can range from the size of a pinhead in smaller muscles to the size of your thumb in larger muscles. 2

Muscle knots can cause pain in two ways: (1) latent trigger points, which are knots that only hurt when you put pressure on them, and (2) active trigger points, which are knots that actively refer pain along your neural pathways, causing it in non-localized areas.

Trigger points in a constant state of contraction have excess metabolic waste and oxygen use because blood flow to this area stops this sends pain signals to the brain. Because your brain wants to stop the pain, it commands the muscle to rest, which leads to under-usage of the muscle. This is what makes the muscle shorten and tighten up.

What causes muscle knots?
The most common causes of muscle knots are:

1) accidents acute trauma, such as bad falls sports injuries that strain you joints and muscles

2) postural stress sitting too long with poor posture, sitting with no support, lifting improperly

3) overstimulation

Considering your profession, your back pain is mostly postural. Follow these tips to get relief: 1. Take anti inflammatory drugs like ibuprofen round the clock for 5 days to decrease pain. 2. Take rest for 3 days, do your daily activities but avoid exertion. 3. When at shop, take break every 45 mins and walk for 10 mins. Avoid prolonged sitting or standing. 4. Get a chair with proper ergonomics design. Back should be supported and feet should rest on floor in the chair. Avoid forward bending and lifting weights. 5. Take calcium and vitamin d supplement. 6. Start back stretching exercises and core strengthening exercises uponce pain decreased for further details consult a pain specialist.

Extension exercises x 15 times x twice daily - lying on tummy, take left arm up for 3 seconds, then bring it down, right arm up for 3 seconds, bring down. Bring right leg up, hold for 3 seconds, bring it down. Then right leg up and hold for 3 seconds and bring it down. Repeat twice a day- 10 times. Bhujang asana -- lie flat on your stomach, keeping the palms out, bend the neck backward, take a deep breath and while holding it for 6 seconds, raise the chest up. Release breath and relax your body. Repeat the exercise 15 times twice daily.

I had pain in my heel of right foot. Mostly after inactivity or after waking up. Pain used to go down with activity and some times after passing urine. Got my uric acid test done it was ok. This occuted an year ago as well but got ok after I changed my shoe. This time also it has started after I bought a new shoe. I shall change my shoe. But does it mean some other problem. Or is it only shoe.

It is shoe and heel. You have stiff tendo achilles. You need to do some exercises for stretching and you will be fine.
