I am suffering from thyroid from 1year. I took medicine after that also m gaining weight.
Pay close attention to your food choice. ·        Eat less carbohydrate food sources like chapatti, rice, noodles, pasta, bread etc as they help in gaining weight and storing fat. ·        While having lunch or dinner eat vegetables and dal to fill your stomach rather eating lots of chapattis or rice. ·        Have a healthy breakfast like poha, idli, upma, plain dosa, oats, dalia or khichdi with vegetables. ·        Eat a balance diet including good quality proteins like: fish, lean chicken and eggs. If you are a vegetarian then include skimmed milk, low fat paneer, butter milk, soy bean or soy milk in your diet. ·        Avoid ghee, butter or vanaspati. Prepare your diet with vegetable oil like sunflower, safflower soybean or olive oil. ·        Eat plenty of salads. ·        Eat fresh fruits including apple, orange, pineapple, papaya, sweet lime, berries, guava, watermelon, mask melon etc. ·        Avoid eating outside junk and fried foods like pizza, pasta, roll, burgers, cakes, chocolates and cookies. ·        Have an early dinner. The earlier the better, giving your system more time to digest the food. ·        Avoid cold drinks/alcohol as they add empty calories to your diet. ·        Avoid fat enriched milk products like cheese, sweets, full fat cream etc. ·        Drink 3 liters of water in a day. ·        Try to have less sugar in food and beverages. ·        Try to drink 2 cups of green tea in a day as green tea helps in weight loss by aiding digestion. ·        Avoid red meat like mutton, beef, lamb or pork. ·        Eat sprouts or roasted chana, whenever you feel hungry. Kindly mention your Thyroid profile and revert.

Aloe Vera juice is very effective to stop hair loss. Pure aloe gel can be applied directly to the scalp. This is helpful for preventing hair loss due to irritated, dry or infected scalp. Aloe Vera balances the pH level of scalp. After massaging the head with aloe gel, wait for few hours and then wash the hair with lukewarm water. You should do this twice a week for best results.

Diabetes - How Exercise Can Help Keep It In Check?

MD - Internal Medicine, MBBS
General Physician, Delhi
Diabetes - How Exercise Can Help Keep It In Check?

Obesity and diabetes usually go hand in hand and both of them have one common solution - physical exercise. It is a known solution to obesity related problems and after fat loss, many people have stated reduction in health problems caused by it.

However diabetes, whether caused by obesity or not can also be kept in check by regular physical exercise. Let's see how it does so:

1. Keeps body insulin in check - Exercising regularly ensures that insulin levels within your body are kept in check. Insulin is what makes the blood sugar get absorbed into the muscles for energy in the form of glucose. Thus this reduces blood sugar levels within the body and keeps the levels within the body under control for patients who have higher blood sugar counts.

2. Exercising helps reduce depression and stress - Exercising is known to have a very positive effect mentally as endorphins are released after a workout. This makes you feel happier and better about yourself and reduces stress or depression. Both depression and stress are known to have triggered Diabetes related issues in the long run and exercising can definitely help keep them in check.

3. Exercise can actually correct insulin resistance - It is a myth that people who suffer from insulin resistance cant benefit from exercise and it helps regulate resistance. If you start exercising and working out, then the insulin resistance is checked and regulated where in the capacity of the body to absorb blood sugar in the form of glucose actually increases.

4. Reduces the chance of heart problems caused by diabetes - Diabetes increases the chances of heart problems and also the blocking of arteries through arteriosclerosis. These blockages could result in a heart attack or other related problems and exercising can help reduce their possibilities as well.

5. Exercising also helps to keep your appetite in check - it is known that proper exercising works as a hunger killer and thus will help control your appetite. This is good in two ways:

  • A controlled appetite will helps you lose weight which may be a contributing factor to your diabetes
  • If you have non obesity related diabetes, then appetite suppression will help you eat better and stop you from eating foods or untimely snacks that may contribute to blood sugar issues.

However, it is prudent to visit your doctor and discuss how you can optimize your exercise routine to get the best results. If you wish to discuss about any specific problem, you can consult a General Physician.

Chronic Periodontitis and Erectile DysfunctionErectile dysfunction (ED) is more common in men with chronic periodontitis (severe gum disease) than men with healthy gums, according to a recent study published in theJournal of Sexual Medicine.Chronic periodontitis refers to a group of infectious diseases caused by bacteria. These diseases often attack the gums.Turkish researchers from Inonu University worked with two groups of men between the ages of 30 and 40. One group included 80 men who had ED. The other group, which acted as the control group, did not have erectile difficulties. The two groups were similar in terms of body mass index, household income, and education.Men who had systemic diseases, such as diabetes mellitus, heart disease, or hypertension were not included in the study. Smokers and men who had had periodontal treatment within the last 12 months were also excluded.Erectile function was assessed using the International Index of Erectile Function questionnaire. The men also had periodontal examinations to determine the degree of gum disease, if any.Overall, the researchers found that 53% of the men who had ED also had chronic periodontitis. Only 23% of the men in the control group had gum disease. After adjusting for age, body mass index, household income, and education level, the researchers found that men with severe chronic periodontitis were 3.29 times more likely to have erectile dysfunction than the men without gum disease. The connection between gum disease and ED isn?t entirely clear. However, chronic periodontitis can cause endothelial dysfunction that leads to vascular problems. And many cases of ED are caused by vascular issues.?Many studies have reported that [chronic periodontitis] may induce systemic vascular diseases, such as coronary heart disease, which have been linked with erection problems,? said lead author Dr. Fatih O?uz in a press statement.?To our knowledge, erectile dysfunction and [chronic periodontitis] in humans are caused by similar risk factors, such as ageing, smoking, diabetes mellitus, and coronary artery disease,? Dr. O?uz added. ?We therefore excluded men who had systemic disease and who were smokers from this study.?Dr. O?uz said that the research team chose men in their thirties for this study to reduce the chances that ageing would affect erectile function. The study showed an association between chronic periodontitis and erectile dysfunction for men in their thirties, but not a cause-and-effect relationship. However, the authors suggest that healthcare providers consider periodontal disease when treating younger patients with ED.
