Hello. My suggestion is to get an ultrasound (pelvis) done to rule out PCOD. Share reports with me. For painful menses: Here are some tips to help you get rid of your problem: It is good to avoid fried, sour and protein rich foods in the last week of the menstrual cycle. Eat fish as it contains omega-3 fatty acids, which helps in easing contractions during menstruation Avoid eating dairy products, meat and poultry Maintain healthy and nutritious diet and perform yoga to help you stay away from problems If you are suffering from anemia, you should take food rich in iron Avoid vegetables like potato, eggplant, yellow pumpkin and try to concentrate on consuming drumsticks, papaya, white pumpkin, snake guard, cucumber and bitter guard When you experience pain, you can help reduce the pain by giving the area hot treatment. Drinking plenty of water and herbal tea also helps reduce pain and problems faced during menstrual periods. You can also perform yoga and some cardiovascular exercises that will help you get rid of these cramps. Last but not the least; take as much rest as possible. This will help you keep your menstruation under control. Medication: Take Schwabe’s Mag. Phos. 6x/ 5 tablets to be dissolved in ½ cup of water after every 2 hrly. till the pain lasts.

Hii, one of my friend got injured while he was walking down stairs. He got a severe damage below his right knee, seems to be more swell. Please suggest some diagnostic measures.

Ask your friend to take essential rest for better healing of his condition. Avoid overusing knee, stop climbing stairs, sports activities etc in case it is aggravating his knee pain. Ice will reduce pain and swelling. Apply ice or cold packs immediately to prevent or minimize swelling. Apply the ice or cold pack for 10 to 20 minutes, 3 or more times a day. Elevate the injured or sore area on pillows while applying ice and anytime you are sitting or lying down. Try to keep the area at or above the level of your heart to help minimize swelling. Compression, or wrapping the injured or sore area with an elastic bandage, will help decrease swelling. Don't wrap it too tightly, since this can cause more swelling below the affected area. Loosen the bandage if it gets too tight. It’s important to find the cause behind the pain and swelling. Please consult a Physiotherapist.

Please give me the suggestion to overcome the white hair and hair fall. Suggest me any hair oil.
If your hair loss is due to hormonal dysfunction, foods rich in vitamins can help set that right. Vitamin A-rich foods such as mangoes, carrots and other yellow-colored foods can be a rich source of this important vitamin. However, too much intake of vitamin A can cause hair loss too, so be careful to not overdo it.

Sugary drinks versus sugary sweets (mithai)

C.S.C, D.C.H, M.B.B.S
General Physician,
Sugary drinks versus sugary sweets (mithai)
When we talk about health, everybody talks against soft drinks. They say that one should not substitute water with soft drinks. One should take not more than one soft drink a day.

From medical point of view, soft drinks mean any drink, which contains more than 10% sugar. Oral rehydration solution that is medically recommended for dehydration and marketed as a replacement solution is not a sugary drink as it contains not more than 2–3% sugar. A 200 ml bottle of soft drink, on an average, contains 20 gm of sugar, which amounts to 10%.

Most mithais or the so-called Indian sweets contain more than 10% sugar; an average person consumes 100 gm of sweets per meal.

The traditional halwas such as moong ki daal ka halwa or gajar ka halwa or suji halwa contain 30% sugar. Suji Halwa is made of one cup of ghee, one cup of suji and two cups of sweet syrup and four cups of water. Kalakand is the least sweetened Indian sweet as it contains only 300 gm of sugar in 10kg of milk. Indian traditional Burfi is 3 kg sugar in 10 kg of khoya. Kaaju burfi is 50% sugar, gulab jamun is 40% sugar, rasgulla syrup contains 50% sugar (made of only cow milk and sugar).

The sugar syrup, or chashni as it is called, is 50% sugar. Most soft drinks have 10% sugar.

Most Indian sweets are prepared either in sugar syrup or vanaspati ghee (hydrogenated oils). A sweet cannot be made in artificial sweeteners as artificial sweetener cannot be converted into a sugar syrup or chashni. The sweets prepared in vanaspati ghee are gulab jamun, laddoo, patisa, balushahi, sohan halwa. Sohn halwa contains the maximum hydrogenated oil. Balushahi also contains 60% ghee.

The sweets that are prepared without any ghee are those prepared with sugar syrup; they are rasgulla, ras malai, chum chum etc.

Most salty snacks are made in soyabean oil which is the cheapest oil. Other oils, which can be used are sunflower oil, cottonseed oil. Samosa, kachori are made of maida but they are not cooked in transfat or hydrogenated oils but in soyabean oil.

The hydrogenated oils or vanaspati ghee is only present in items like laddoo, balushahi, besan ka laddoo, patisa etc.

When I want to talk to my mom who lives in london sometimes my voice will not come?

Reparenting Technique, BA, BEd
Psychologist, Bangalore
When I want to talk to my mom who lives in london sometimes my voice will not come?
There is some fear that comes up that is crippling you to kind of loose your voice. Can you identify what that fear is all about? how has your relationship with her been for all of these years? why is she in london? if you have been too close to her and have not broken out of that closeness in a healthy manner, you are likely to have feelings in that separation: it is called separation anxiety. I recommend that you meet with a female counselor and deal with the feelings that are disturbing you. I see this as a purely emotional disturbance and it can be sorted out quite reasonably. If your mom has been a strict person and has curbed any intimacy, there can be this type of reaction too. It can get further complicated if your father has any kind of role to play in all this too. Please explore all of these possibilities with the counselor and regain your confidence in talking to mom: she is after all your own mom and there should be no inhibitions in that relationship ever. She is and was your primary caretaker and that relationship should always be easy and smooth.

I am always sleepy I sleep at night 1 am or wakeup 10 am and full day like lazy body eyes is like to closing did not feel good did not interest in any work I hope you will help me thanks.

M. sc Psychology, BHMS
Homeopath, Hyderabad
First of all your sleeping hrs are not proper. Usually sleeping hrs should be 6-8 hrs maximum to maintain proper health& that too in between 10pm-6am is the right timings. You are going to bed aqfter midnight& sleeping till day started, whichgh obviously those hrs are improper & though you maintain proper hrs of sleep, that timings you r maintaing will make you feel very dull, lazy. You will not feel fresh if you aleep at odd hrs& wakeup after 7am. Its natural phenomena for any individual. So, here rather than medicines, you need to follow proper punctuality to maintain timings, which is in your hands only. But ofcourse, its difficult to get sleep as soon as you go to bed early, but gradually it becomes habit for you. For that, you can do physical exercises which helps body to get exhausted, so that you can get sleep easily& do not try to take nap in day which again make you difficult to get sleep in night. Try to do prayer or read few books, as per your interest, before going to bed, which makes your eyes tired& you can gfeel sleepy, in healthier way. Take warm milk before going to bed.

He has completed 9 months but his weight is not increasing from 5th month. His weight is still 8 kg as he was in 5th month. I am giving him diet of meshed cereals, cerelac, and some vegetables (5 meals a day ). Also to mention that he does not like mother's milk, every time he refuses that within a minute or two. Please suggest.

He has completed 9 months but his weight is not increasing from 5th month. His weight is still 8 kg as he was in 5th ...
Don't compare his wt with 5 month's wt. Now his expected wt should be about 9 kg. 8 kg is slightly at lower side. As the child grows, his wt doesn't increase with the same pace as at younger age. I am not seeing any place of milk or its product in his 5 meals. Give him ideally 2 meals but not more than 3 meals in a day consisting of varieties like ghee added haluwa, rice/ sujee kheer, khichadi, dal-roti very small pieces, vegetables well cooked in ghee/ oil, fruits etc of his taste and to develop taste. 3-4 times sweetened milk and rest breast milk 3-4 times. Probably he may be refusing mother's milk because she may be trying to feed her own milk most of time. If it is so I hope with above regime he shall like mother's feed and start gaining wt.

I am having hair loss what to do?

Ph.D - Ayurveda, FFAM-Post-Gratuate Felloship, MD - Ayurveda
Ayurveda,
I am having hair loss what to do?
Commonly dandruff or any other infection and lack of hair nourishment are the main causes for hair fall. This requires both local application for dandruff or any other infection and local massage with oil to increase circulation and internal consumption of herbal preparations as nutrients for hair growth. In young age the results are more positive.

I am 30 years old male. Unmarried, habit masturbating. I have no idea what to do? Please help me.

BHMS
Homeopath, Raebareli
I am 30 years old male. Unmarried, habit masturbating. I have no idea what to do? Please help me.
Make a plan for avoiding masturbation during your "go to" times of day. If you have problems before going to bed or in the shower, refrain from any temptation to masturbate. For instance, if it's a problem late at night, drop to the floor and do push-ups until you're too exhausted to do anything but fall asleep. If you find shower time too tempting, start using ice cold water only — you won't want to be in there for long. If you always masturbate when you get home from school, make sure to have a solid plan to stave off any boredom you may feel. If you have so little to do that your mind frequently wanders to sexual thoughts, occupy your schedule. You'll find it gets easier to avoid masturbation if you're too busy or tired to spare any energy for distractions. If you're tempted to masturbate in the morning, try to sleep with more than just one layer of clothing so touching yourself is more of an effort. Don't believe the myths about the harms of masturbation. If you want to stop your masturbation addiction, then you should do it for reasons that are personal and moral, not for reasons that are health-related. The only real health problem that can be caused is pain and rawness from chronic masturbation, but that can go away if you stop touching yourself so frequently. Here are some things that masturbation will not do to your body: Masturbation will not cause infertility, premature ejaculation, or impotence. Masturbation will not cause insanity. Masturbation will not cause blindness, or even eye floaters. Masturbation will not cause frequent urination. Masturbation does not affect facial hair, growth, facial features, kidneys, testicles,or skin problems, or cause any major physical issues! These are all myths. For further queries get back to me.

Dear Sunaina. Welcome to lybrate. I understand your problem. Concentration is attention span. Attention span is at any given time is less than 10 minutes for any person. You should be able to be creative in your learning tasks. Over and above you should have interest and dedication to whatever you do to have proper attention. Search google for '' effective learning methods '' and adopt some of them. Your concentration will improve. Consult a psychologist online for counseling. Exam related anxiety is performance anxiety. Once you learn to study systematically your performance anxiety will be gone. Take care.
