Hi thanks for your query and welcome to lybrate. I am Dr. Akshay from fortis hospital, new delhi. You are very young to actually have persistent back pains. If you have localized back pain with no other symptoms like radiating leg pain, neurological symptoms like numbness, weakness, paresthesias etc, then you can start with following recommendations for initial period of 2-3 weeks: - to maintain proper posture of your back while working and sleeping - if pain is more then you can take a short course of an anti-inflammatory medication like tab etoshine or paracetamol or one which suits you - physical therapy initially under supervision of a trained physiotherapist and then to continue at home - adequate calcium & vitamin d intake if levels are low in body - ice packs can applied if your pain is acute, then hot fomentation can be done at home - analgesic spray for local application can be used and is easily available. - avoid lifting heavyweight/ acute forward bending in mornings etc we will observe you for next 2-3 weeks how you respond to this conservative management protocol. If you are not feeling better, then we will have to get some investigations like, dynamic x rays of lower back and few blood tests for evaluation. Backache is normally two types: structural & mechanical. At your age is commonly mechanical back pain, due to bad ergonomics leads to bad posture finally ends into back pain. I would recommend you to see physiotherapy doctor n get it checked properly and take treatment. Tens, ultrasound therapy & heat therapy is best choice of treatment. After pain reduces start with mild strengthening exercises n stay fit.

1) eat foods rich in protein like milk and milk product, eggs, chicken, meat. 2) eat energy dense foods like nuts, dates, potato, halwa, kheer etc. 3) eat fruits high in energy like banana, chickoo, sitaphal, mango, grapes. 4) eat two servings of pulses in a day esp. Soybean and urad dal. 5) have proper rest.

Avoid sitting cross legged. Avoid squatting- quadriceps exercises- lie straight, make a towel role and put it under the knee, press the keen against the role, hold it for 20 secs. Repeat 20 times twice a day. This will.

Hi lybrate-user, it seems discogenic pain, may be due to disc herniation/ prolapse. Since you are in active lifestyle. I would like to suggest you to see a pain specialist asap. Take common pain killers till then. Avoid riding bikes. Avoid jerks while driving/ running/dancing. Avoid bending forwards.

Hello Mr Roy. Pain in the back may be linked to the bony lumbar spine, discs between the vertebrae, ligaments around the spine and discs, spinal cord and nerves, lower back muscles, abdomen and pelvic internal organs, and the skin around the lumbar area. Pain in the upper back may be due to disorders of the aorta and spine inflammation. Do back exercises which will make your muscles relaxed.Take Arnica mother ticture 10 drops in a glass of water and drink it twice in a day. Let me know. Regards.

Hello Mr. lybrate-user! Your body weight is too much for your bones to carry. Ideal body weight for you will be 60-65 kg. Too much weight is damaging your knees to cause osteoarthritis. As an endocrinologist I can help you losing this extrabody weight. For that I have to examine you and develop a treatment plan accordingly. It is good you do not have diabetes now, but obesity is a risk factor for diabetes and hypertension.

Massage with your thumbs from the mid points of the shoulder blades on both sides towards the lower back of your head up to lower level of the ears. Use oil or water for massage. Rotate your head clockwise and anticlockwise, forward and down, left and right a few times. Do for 5 to 10 times morning and evening. Give pressure the dipping point on the portion between the thumb and the index finger on the back of the palm. Press and release for 15 times where the pain is more. This will solve the problem. Further do some wrist rotation exercise. Consult after 5 days. For further guidance and treatment.

Try gentle stretching exercises. Use hot and cold fermentation over painful area few times a day for 15 mins. If pain persists consult a physiotherapist.

I am 22 year old. 24 days ago I got a jerk and soft tissue damage in my right knee while playing football and I got a plaster but the recvry is not done. While doing smthng or trying to push anything there is severe pain in my knee on the medial aspect. Wat should I do. And will it affect my sports for a longer period?

Dear, by the history you r giving, you might have injured your knee either ligament or meniscus. You need to consult with a sports surgeon or orthopaedics surgeon soon as possible to avoid further damage.

Hams Stretching- lie straight, take the leg up, pull the feet towards yourself, with a elastic tube or normal belt. repeat 10 times, twice a day. Sports Taping- stretch the tape from both ends and apply on the affected area

Avoid repeated forward bending, avoid weight lifting, do not sleep straight, better sleep side wise and knee should be bent back side.
