Apart from all lifestyle modifications if the patient is under stress, tension and strain, blood glucose levels will not be under control. So try asking him to meditate, deep breathing exercises etc. Also the result varies from ran to person. Consume Fresubin DM supplement 2 scoops in 200 ml low fat milk at 10 am and 10 pm daily until sugar levels are controlled.

You have to follow healthy dietary habbits. Maintain a healthy weight, go for exercise. Avoid fried fatty food, junk food, preserved food. Sugar and salt intake sould be moderate. Start taking 1 tsp Amla and 1 tsp alovera juice in a cup of water every early morning as it helps in detoxification of the liver and would help in better nutrient absorption. Do some physical activity. Follow healthy breakfast, have fruits, healthy lunch including high fibre like salads and veggies. Follow green tea twicea day. Follow light dinner. Drink plenty of water.

Hello, My current uric acid level is high based on blood test. Can anybody advice me on what type of diet to be taken to prevent uric acid levels from rising up. Thanking you.

PDDM, MHA, MBBS
General Physician, Nashik
Hello, My current uric acid level is high based on blood test.
Can anybody advice me on what type of diet to be taken...
The first thing you should do is to eat foods that are high in fiber, This is because fiber rich foods absorb uric acid from the blood. Your kidneys then 'throw' out the excess uric acid. Try to eat Oatmeal, Spinach, cauliflowers and Isabgol in milk if possible.  Please use olive oil to cook your food. kindly avoid vegetable oils because they become unhealthy when heated twice. This leads to rancid fat in the body. These destroy vitamin E, that in turn controls uric acid levels. Olive oil also curbs uric acid by itself.  Vitamin C chewable tablets taken 500mg daily lower uric acid levels within 4 to 8 weeks.  Try to stop intake of sweets, cakes and pastries. Saturated fats are bad for you.  Many fruits have got potent anti-oxidant properties, like celery seeds, grapes and tomatoes, and these prevent harmful toxins from attacking your organs - releasing uric acid.

What are the main symptoms of diabetes and how it can be cured and what exercise useful to cure it.

MBBS, CCEBDM, Diploma in Diabetology
Endocrinologist, Hubli-Dharwad
What are the main symptoms of diabetes and how it can be cured and what exercise useful to cure it.
Mr Azad, There are mainly 2 types of diabetes T1 and T2. Most common variety is T2 DM, occurring due to deficiency of Insulin , secreted by beta cells of pancreas or resistance to its action or both. Plus being over weight and inactivity contribute to it. Usually does not cause any symptoms, hence many persons do not come to know they have diabetes. When fully developed may cause excess urination, excess hunger, excess thirst, unexplained tiredness and weight loss. This disease can only be controlled by taking proper drugs or insulin injections. There is no cure for it. Treatment has to be for lifetime. Person has to adapt a modified lifestyle like : taking restricted diet matching ideal body weight, exercising regularly, avoiding too much of sweets, junk foods, pastries, alcohol and smoking. Exercising 1 hour a day, consuming more of green leafy vegetables and salads.

How to control diabetes and blood pleasure. What type of food we have to consume, what type of exercise we have to do. Do we have cure for sure or no.

MBBS, CCEBDM, Diploma in Diabetology

How to control diabetes and blood pleasure. What type of food we have to consume, what type of exercise we have to do...
Mr. Lybrate-user, first thing to be clarified is that essential hypertension (high bp) and diabetes are not curable, both can only be controlled effectively by proper medication, diet control and regular exercise. Treatment has to go on for lifetime. To control high blood glucose following things are to done: 1) appropriate medicines based on fasting, pp glucose levels and hba1c%, to be taken regularly, 2) restricted diet providing exact calories based on ideal body weight, glucose levels and extent of daily exercise, 3) regular exercise for at least 1 hour a day, to keep weight in check and as near as normal, 4) avoid deep fried foods, junk foods, pastries and other bakery items, sweetened aerated drinks, fructose corn syrup containing products, 5) refrain from alcohol and smoking. For controlling bp apartfrom all above you have to reduce salt intake to about 2 to 3 g a day. Avoid all highly processed foods. As regards exercise any exercise is good, simplest of option is brisk walking for 1 hour a day at least 5 days a week. If one can do a bit heavier exercise then it is welcome. Basically both these conditions need following a modified lifestyle along with medication.

I am having a diabetes. What should I do to control this problem? And please give me a diet chart.
Dear lybrate user, *factors that are often responsible for causing diabetes are excessive intake of foods which are difficult to digest, such as fried foods, creams, etc. Lack of exercise, mental stress and strain, excessive sleep, overeating and consequent obesity, excessive intake of sugar and refined carbohydrates, overloading of proteins and fats can also lead to diabetes. Hereditary factors also play role in causing diabetes. *dry the leaves of mango tree and grind to a powder. Mix 1 teaspoon dry powder in a glass of water and drink it daily to reduce high blood sugar levels. *take 2 teaspoons of bitter gourd (karela) juice once a day. One can also increase its use as a cooked vegetable. *start doing some light exercise, such as brisk walking. Build up to a brisk walk of 30-40 minutes in the morning and again in the evening. *avoid sleeping in the daytime *use garlic, onion, bitter gourd, spinach, raw banana, and black plum.

The safest and best way is diet. Bariatric surgery will fail if your diet remains same. So for any method surgical/diet/ excercises /machines/ medications will not work untill you have control on diet. And diet does not mean staying hungry. Balanced diet helps in controlling all disease and nutritional deficiencies aggrevate them. Abundand fruits and vegetables in diet have all essential nutrients with best bioavailability to the body. And so this diet is the balanced and most natural diet. This normalises weight, nutrients and balance in the body. Breakfast= fruits only. Abundant amount. Lunch/dinner= half plate salad, 1 katori sprouts, green vegetables 2 to 3 katori, daal 2 to 3 katori, only 1 roti in one meal.(quantity are relative and to be varied depending upon total meal quantity which can be any quantity as per your hunger) evening time fruits are also good. Stop having: milk, milk products, refined foods, packaged food of any kind like bread namkeen buiscuits maida etc. As these have all kinds of adulteration now a days with reports of urea level exceeding the limit even in mother dairy milk. Do light excercise for two hours daily slowly without straining yourself. Have plenty of fluids and water daily.

Please control her carbohydrates and divide it equally throughout the day! which essentially means rice/ chapati/ cereals to be in moderation and for bp you need to control her salt. Apart from that she can have dhaniya powder with 1 glass lukewarm water in the morning, that will help her control her bp. If you wish to consult me personally, please reach out through lybrate.
