Merely because your parents have diabetes you need not restrict eating sugar or carbohydrates unless you too have got Diabetes. It is for diabetics that we need to restrict sugars because their system is unable to transport the blood glucose in to the cell. A non diabetic person is capable of transporting his/her glucose in to the cell so there is no problem One should ensure that the quantity of carbohydrates (Sugar) is not more than desired calorie demand to be generated from carbohydrates else the excess gets converted in to fats and causes obesity, which predisposes for diabetes in years after middle age. That is because increased body weight means more tissue, means more requirement of insulin to transport glucose, and the pancreas even if supplying normal quantity of insulin may not do so in such increased demand situations. So eat moderately, keep burning your fat by regular exercises and live healthily.

Hi, I am 36 years of age, I was a diabetic and my hb1ac was around 7 since then I started walking around 6 kms daily and strictly controlled my diet by taking low carb and no sugar products. Now my hb1ac has come down to 5.3 and my random blood sugar is around 98. Shall I take any medicine or without medication can I manage diabetics.

Hello, Thanks for your query on Lybrate "As" per your clinical history is concerned you do not need any medications at all so follow only lifestyle modification - 1)Try to eat healthy foods. Choose foods lower in fat and calories and higher in fiber. Focus on fruits, vegetables, and whole grains. Consult with a dietician to make a chart. 2)Get more physical activity. Aim for 30 minutes of moderate physical activity a day. Take a brisk daily walk. If you can't fit in a long workout, break it up into smaller sessions spread throughout the day. 3)Try to lose excess weight. If you're overweight, losing even 7 percent of your body weight can reduce the risk of diabetes. To keep your weight in a healthy range, focus on permanent changes to your eating and exercise habits. Avoid spicy food in your diet and Also avoid peanuts and potatoes in your diet and For constipation eat food with high fiber content and eat bananas at bedtime and if necessary take two tsp of syp gudlax at night
