Recently I read an article about the effect of wheat on diabetes. In the olden days, in India, diabetics were advised to avoid polished rice, our staple diet, and stick to a diet of wheat and wheat products. The above article highlighted the adverse effects of high-yielding varieties of wheat on diabetes. You will kindly appreciate that traditional varieties of wheat are no longer available. Grateful if you could kindly elaborate.

Though, there are many theories of dietary aspects in diabetes. But, nothing is accepted worldwide. Food preferences varies with region and even in our vast country rice is the staple diet in the east and south whereas wheat is mainly consumed in north and west. There have been studies, but none has shown any correlation with the staple cereal on diabetes prevalence. Many authors have blamed rice and claimed wheat based diet regimen for diabetic reversal, and vice-versa, but did not mention any conclusive evidence for the same. Current guidelines only mentions whole grains with high fibre content rather than processed foods.

Hello, Gaining weight is a slow process which requires patience and dedication! It not only depends upon the amount of food you consume daily, but also about eating Sensibly, depends upon your genes, your body's proper metabolism, assimilation and absorption, the levels of stress/ tension in your life, and any underlying medical condition you have! The food what and how you eat, makes the difference! For increasing your weight, concentrate on the below points (if you don’t have any medical condition) which helps in gaining weight in a right way without harming your body. - Consume more healthy fats. Foods containing healthy fats are full of nutrients and also high in calories, making them a great option for weight gain. Foods containing plant fats should be your first option - this includes items such as nuts, seeds, peanut butter, avocados and olive oil. Foods containing healthy animals fats include lean meats and full fat dairy products - although if you have high cholesterol, you should probably stick to low-fat options. -Eat more protein. Good sources of protein include lean meat, fish and poultry, in addition to eggs, whole grains, dairy products and legumes. -Drink more calories. Try drinking a large glass of orange juice in the mornings (along with your normal breakfast). Drink a glass or two of full-cream milk throughout the day. -Have 6 small and frequent meals in a day. -Gain muscle mass. It's a good idea to continue to exercise while you attempt to gain weight the healthy way. Strength training includes working with weights and performing exercises such as squats, deadlifts, bench presses, bicep curls, crunches, chin-ups and leg curls. Just keep in mind that the more you exercise, the more calories you will need to consume to replace those you lost while working out. -Quit smoking. As it suppresses the appetite. -Stay healthy. The most important thing through the entire weight gain process is to stay healthy - eating a balanced diet and continuing to exercise throughout. -Take enough of rest and sleep for rejuvenation of the cells and tissues. -Think Positive which will help you in achieving your target of gaining weight. -Avoid taking unnecessary stress/ tension. Medication: Take Schwabe’s Alfaalfa Tonic and Five Phos. Both thrice daily ½ an hour before meals for 3 months. Revert.

Sometimes going to gym or even doing regular excersies or following a certain generalised diet plan can't help us to remain in our perfect body shape. The main reason behind this could be that, our body's metabolism is not as good as it is supposed to be. In such cases we would like to recommend you to follow the panchkarma & naturopathy ways to loose the unwanted & irritating weight. The therapies focuses on initially increasing the metabolism & than to stabilise it. This helps you to loose the weight not in any miracular way but in a slow & steady way. The weight you are going to loose by these processes will not bounce back. So don't loose hope - loose your weight.

The quantity of sugar, fat and protein impacts your weight greatly. Since yogurt is a high-protein food, one feels fuller for long. Fruit based yogurt is said to have 118 calories, consume it in your daily diet for increased weight. You can also try Greek yogurt, as it contains double protein and has very yummy savor.

Whole grains include brown rice, oats, cereals, wheat, etc. Which are the powerhouses of diverse nutrients. Oats, plain or brown rice are good sources of complex carbohydrates and help build your muscles. On the other hand, cereals are a high calorie food. They must be consumed as morning meal. •Brown rice can be a filling food because of its fiber, carbohydrates and protein content. If you are planning for a healthy weight gain, then combine rice with some other nutrient and calorie-dense foods. Instead of water, cook them in broth or milk. You may also add butter or cheese over the top. Starchy vegetables and dried fruits can be mixed. •Even though oatmeal is regarded as a weight-loss food, but it also aids weight-gain when combined with whole milk. One full bowl of oats can add necessary nutrition to the body, as it is rich in fiber and nutrients. You can prepare oatmeal with milk. Serve it with honey and toppings of handful of nuts, dried fruits, and other mix-ins to ramp up your weight.

Have complex carbohydrates like whole wheat flour chapatis, oats, dalia, brown rice etc. 4. Avoid banana, chiku, mango, grapes. 5. Avoid fruits juices. 6. Avoid potatoes, sweet potato, arbi. 7. Firstly, You need to know that medrol is a steroid and steroids are medicines with lots of side-effects. I am sure that your doctor would have started your mother on steroids because her asthmatic condition would have endangered her life and he would have been left with no choice but to start steroids. I respect his decision and would urge you also to understand the urgencies that we as doctors face to save our patients - sometimes taking calculated risks! As a next step, the doctor would try to taper and stop medrol as soon as possible. Secondly, please remember that in emergency life threatening conditions, insulin is the best choice medicine for all diabetics in the world. I say, categorically "the world" - because if your mother was been treated in USA - ever there the doctors would have given her insulin only! So please don't stop or substitute insulin for the time being. Once your mother is stable - there will be other choices.

Husband and wife together must adopt better eating and exercise habits and support each other so that the problems do not become worse. It has been seen in households where excessive food / junk food is consumed.. everyone in the house, spouses.. children.. ultimately suffers from weight related lifestyle diseases like Hypertension, Diabetes, Cholesterol, Heart Diseases, Joint Pains, Obesity etc... While Diabetes etc is not transmitted through Sex... but definitely these diseases are transmitted through Food Habits. It is recommended that as couple you can take diet counselling to ensure that such problems are naturally controlled.
