My 10.5 month baby isn't gaining weight. I give her two snacks and three meals a day which includes veggies and fruits. Her weight is 7 kgs which is really concerning. I wish there should be an article on babies weight like other articles by doctors.

Baby wt gains depend on calories he is taking which starts right from 1-2 hours after birth. If baby is deficient of calories from early age, it becomes difficult, though not impossible, to recover. At this age of 10.5 months normal average expected wt is 9.5 kg while your baby is only 7 kg. Increase his caloric diet by adding oil in cooked food and either increasig quantity or frequency of such food but don't force to feed.

Hello, ●New born baby is unable to distinguish between night & daytime. Hence, after few week, you have to educate the baby the difference between  day & night in order to establish sound sleep in the night. ●When its day, the baby should be brought in sun light to recognise the day time and similarly in night the baby should be kept in a dim. Light to recognise eving or night time. Her day should be brighter and the night be darker. ●This has to be ensured  that child is adequetly ,fed before going to bed & continued feeding 2 hrly. ●Some time the baby suffers from abdominal pain, earache, headache due to change in climate, cause her weep. ●  usually, we fail to assess the room- temprature being suitable for the baby to make her sleep, comfortably.Ac should be tuned & fan should be adjusted as per the need be. ● in the night while feeding the baby of your own  baby asleeps without taking sufficient quty of milk, makes her weep, again and again during sleep, please keep checking the fact & adjusted as the condition warants. Homoeopathically,  your baby might be nurtured, successfully. Your feedback is solicited to followup your baby. The care.

After 5 mints of vaccination you can give ice around the injection site. That can reduce hematoma formation. U can also apply heparin gel locally for 3 days and routinely give paracetamol 2-3 times daily in proper dose. That vl help both to reduce pain and fever. Its definitely painful for both child and parents but you should assure yourself that almost all Indian infant is going through the same.

Is it normal for young children to stop taking or needing naps? My 3½-year-old hasn’t taken a nap in quite a while, but seems to do OK.

Hi, On average, a 3-4yrs. of child needs 9-12hrs. of night sleep and 0-2hrs. of sleep during daytime (varies from child to child and few kids may not sleep during daytime). Normally, the child sleeps in daytime after doing more physical activity only when the child starts feeling tired and there is need of rest.

Hi Pallavi Head injury may cause any kind of symptoms depending on the area of inury if any in brain. He needs to be treated properly. Homoeopathic treatment offers good solution for this problem as it cures the effects of injury to brain in any form. I suggest this medicine. Give for one week and report after that. 1. Nat-sulph 200/1dose/stat. 2. Saclac 30/ thrice daily for 7 days.

Just give her a plain cup ice-cream, soft cold diet for few days, ask your pediatrician and put her on antibiotics, no more dental intervention is required at this age.

Every 2-3 hourly feeds are must for a newborn baby to avoid significant weight loss-->. Meet your pediatrician asap and ofcourse you have to do check weight of your baby every 3 days. Sometimes infection or jaundice are the common cause of lethargy.

Sir, my son is 5 years old. He urinates in bed every night. We are giving him Depsonil 25 mg before sleep since two months. He is still unable to wake up timely. Sometimes he does it twice a night. Kindly provide some help.

General Physician,
As he is only 5 years I advise not to give this drug which is mainly an antidepressant. You stop giving any drink 2 hours before sleep and wake him up in between sleep and as he grows he will come out of this habit.

Ent specialist or pediatrician, both r equally competent to treat. U may consult any one. If any intervention is required, ent specialist can do it. For passing stool problem, give her fibrous food good quantity of water. Gud (गुड़) in stead of refined sugar may be helpful. Train her for toileting habit.

My son is just 38 days old. He cries often due to hunger. I am on breastfeeding. Some of ma relatives are telling he is not getting enough milk. Also he s looking so lean. I am feeling guilty that I can't produce enough milk. My nipples are too sore. I am using breast shield to feed him. He latches well on the shield. Please suggest what should be done for increasing the milk flow.

Fellowship in Neonatology, MRCPCH(UK), Diploma in Child Health (DCH), MBBS
Pediatrician, Delhi
Use nipcare on sore nipples after every feed which you can wipe off with a wet cotton before every feed baby should not be sucking on the nipples, he should be sucking on areola at the rim of the black portion on the breast. To increase the milk flow do the following: take proper diet, adequate water and at least 1l of milk or milk products everyday take proper rest and remain calm and stress free you can take lactonic granules one teaspoon twice a day with milk for 2 weeks and tab perinorm one tab three times a day for one week on demand breast feeding to your baby.
