He has been smoking from an year and smokes around 3-5 cigarette's a day Sometimes his right side of the chest starts pumping for some reason Is it because of smoking or some other reason? Sometimes he even has a very very mild pain in his heart.

Diploma in Obstetrics & Gynaecology, MBBS
General Physician, Delhi
At 17, it is good to know that you need counselling for others to stop smoking, he should be a responsible citizen as his smoke is affecting his near and dear ones through inhaling secondary smoke. Since you know that his problem is due to cigarette smoke, do help him give up through his strong will power minus any substitutes like ecigarettes etc.

Normally 1 year every time I do test . Please tell what medicine to take for vitamin - D . It came less in the test.

PGDD, RD, Bachelor of Home Science
Dietitian/Nutritionist, Mumbai
Thanks for the query. Vitamin D is essential for bone health. If you don't spend enough time in the sun or if your body has trouble absorbing the vitamin, you may not get enough. Firstly it is important to understand that you need to have a balanced diet to help absorption of all vitamins. But there are some things you can do to increase the Vitamin D levels. Firstly get sunlight. Sunlight spurs the body to make vitamin D. A small amount of sun exposure without sunscreen can do the trick. If you're going to get it from the sun, about 20 to 25 minutes of exposure is helpful. Include in your diet foods like fatty fish like salmon and mackerel, an egg yolk, dairy, fish oil, clarified butter and nuts. Also you may have to take a supplement as per the physician's advice.

I get blisters when I walk little more. I cannot walk little too. Summer is is very horrible though. Dr. once said it's epidermolysis bullosa. My mom n Grandfather too has same. How to overcome it.

General Physician, Nashik
Control pain. About 30 minutes before a dressing change or other painful procedure, older children and adults may take a prescription-strength pain medication. For people who don't respond to pain relievers, other options include anti-seizure drugs such as gabapentin and pregabalin. Cleanse skin daily. To cleanse a wound, soak it for five to 10 minutes in a mild solution of salt and water. Other options are mild solutions of diluted vinegar or bleach. Soaking also helps reduce the pain of changing bandages. Rinse with lukewarm water. Puncture new blisters. This prevents them from spreading. Use a sterile needle to puncture the blister in two spots. But leave the roof of the blisters intact to allow for drainage while protecting the underlying skin. Apply creams or lotions and cover with dressings. Use antibiotic ointment, petroleum jelly or other moisturizing substance. Then cover the area with a special nonsticking bandage (mepilex, polymem, others). If you use antibiotic creams for a long time, rotate the type you use each month. You can choose from a wide variety of dressings, based on the type of eipdermoylis bullosa you're dealing with, the size and location of the wounds, availability, and cost. You may need to hold dressings in place with rolled gauze. Wrap blistered hands and feet daily. With some severe forms of this condition, daily wraps help prevent deformities and fusion of the fingers and toes. Special wraps (mepitel, others) and gauze dressings (vaseline petrolatum gauze strip, others) are useful for this treatment.

I have nightfall from 2 yeARS due to this I am very weak so I want medicine for that. I have taken ashwagandha safe mushli dhatupaushtic churna but no benefit.

EMDR, FRCOG (LONDON) (Fellow of Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists), MFSRH , Diploma in psychosexual therapy, Medical diploma in clinical Hypnosis, Diploma in Evidence Based Healthcare, DNB (Obstetrics and Gynecology), MD - Obstetrics & Gynaecology, MBBS

Hello, thank you for your question. Nightfall is not a problem and cannot be cured with medicines. Any medicines that are prescribed tend to dry up the secretions so it appears that the night emissions are reduced. All medicines have side effects and it is best to use natural ways to manage the emissions. The most natural way to manage night emissions and get control over your arousal is to masturbate regularly with correct technique. When you do so twice or thrice a week you will find that night emissions do not trouble you much. You can learn more about correct masturbation techniques from a book called" new male sexuality' by bernie zilbergeld. Your feeling of weakness is most likely due to other reasons which you need to get investigated. A good exercise regime combined with good nutrition will help you recover your strength. Best wishes.

I'm an engineering student doing my 2nd year of course in chennai. I'm staying with my friends here in chennai. In this recent past because of the hotel foods which I consume every single day I personally feel that there is something wrong with my health. As a student away from home hotels are my only source of food but with a proper diet or a healthy diet can help me compensate the ill effects of the hotel food. I AM SUFFERING FROM celiac disease! Please help? What precaution should I take what medication are required?

MBBS, MD - General Medicine, DM - Endocrinology, DNB Endocrinology, MNAMS, Speciality Certificate (Endo. & Diab.) (MRCP, UK), Fellow of American College of Endocrinology (FACE)
Endocrinologist, Delhi
Dear lybrate-user, I really hope that the diagnosis of Celiac's disease has really been confirmed by both endoscopy biopsy of duodenum and antoantibody testing. In Celiac's one has to avoid glutein containing food stuff as you are allergic to it. Glutein containing food stuff include wheat, ragi, jowar bajra. Problem is a lot of food items are derived from wheat which you have to avoid (rotis, aata/flour, maida or white flour, breads, cakes, pasta, maggi, cereals processed food like Kellogs flakes), biscuits, cookies, toffees (some of them). You have to basically restrict yourself to a rice based diet, unlimited fruits and vegetables, milk and milk products, meats which you will have no problems with. When ever you are buying processed food or packaged food, please always read the fine print of the ingredients or contents and avoid stuff which contain which contain wheat based products. Best is to buy food stuff which contains labels saying" GLUTEN FREE"

I have varicose veins and my delivery date is 06/09/2016 so is there any risk of my life in this situation please help.

DNB (Radio Diagnosis), MBBS
Radiologist, Hyderabad
Hello, varicose veins appearing in the legs is common in pregnancy. There reasons include 1. Increased fluid in the body because of the pregnancy, 2. Pressure from the large uterus on the pelvic veins 3. Hormones which cause the veins to relax. As you can see all these are due to the normal physiological process of pregnancy. They usually disappear after pregnancy within three months. Sometimes the varicose veins may cause pain in the legs. You can do the following to reduce the symptoms 1. Avoid sitting or standing in the same position for long periods of time. Make sure to take breaks to change your position. During awake hours walk for 5 minutes every hour. 2. Avoid wearing high heels. 3. Get regular exercise. Talk with your gynaecologist to confirm if it is safe for you to exercise during pregnancy. 4. Wear maternity support hosiery. These put pressure on the legs, stimulating blood flow up the leg towards the heart. However, avoid wearing tight hose that cut off circulation. 5. Avoid crossing your legs while sitting. 6. Elevate your legs periodically to improve circulation. 6. Sleep on your left side. This will help relieve pressure on the inferior vena cava. 7. Reduce salt intake. 8. Drink plenty of water and eat enough fiber to prevent constipation. There is usually no risk to life due to varicose veins. However another condition of the veins is there, which is very rare, and this is clots developing in the leg veins - this can be recognised by swelling of the legs, redness and severe pain, and can be diagnosed with colour doppler test. The clots in the vein can dislodge and go to the lungs and can cause a condition called pulmonary embolism which is very dangerous and life threatening. You can prevent this also with the points listed above. Regards,

I feel drowsy all the day. I have some kind of pain in my head. It feels like blank mind. I can not concentrate on my studies.

MBBS, MD - Psychiatry
Psychiatrist, Mumbai
You are probably not getting adequate, restful sleep at night. This causes drowsiness in day time, decreased concentration and attention, and irritability. This will affect your work and studies and general well being in the long run. Try to get proper sleep at night. Avoid coffee or tea for up to 5 hours before sleep. Maintain same time for waking and sleeping. Avoid watching TV before sleeping. You can consult me for further management if required.
