Ovarian Cancer - 4 Signs You Must Know About!

Ovarian cancer is one of the most common cancers in women and occurs in the inner ovarian lining. It is not something that’s easily identified as it has no definite symptoms. In many women, it could be ignored until it has reached an advanced stage. Here, we have come up with a few facts about the causes, risk factors, symptoms, prognosis, and treatment for ovarian cancer.

Causes/risk factors
There are no specific causes for ovarian cancer, other than a genetic condition. If there is a strong family history, it is advisable to talk to your doctor and see how you can use these to your advantage and reduce the risk of developing ovarian cancer. The following could be potential reasons that increase the risk of developing ovarian cancer.

  1. Postmenopausal women
  2. Menarche before 12 or menopause after 50
  3. Never having had a baby
  4. Use of hormones during menopause

Symptoms
As noted earlier, ovarian cancer does not have specific symptoms. But, a few symptoms could be such as the following.

  1. Regular bloated feeling in the abdomen
  2. Abdominal/pelvic pain
  3. Reduced eating capacity, as a feeling of fullness sets in
  4. Urination changes including increased frequency and increased urge

If these symptoms are present for 2 to 3 weeks and do not resemble the regular digestive or menstrual problems, it is advisable to get it medically checked. The difference would be that they appear suddenly, do not disappear, and also bring general lethargy, back pain, indigestion, painful sexual intercourse, and menstrual cycle changes.

Questions to ask after the tests
When these symptoms persist, and a medical checkup is undertaken, the patients can a few questions to know more. Know the internal speed. Has the disease involved one or both ovaries? This extent of spread within will determine whether one or both ovaries need to be removed. Find out any external signs, as ovarian cancers can spread to other parts, and they should be checked before treatment and planning the cure/procedure.

Treatment options
Depending on the extent of disease, treatment options would include a combination of surgery, chemotherapy, and radiation. The duration again would depend on the spread of cancer.

Side effects
Any of the above treatment modes will have side effects in terms of reduced immunity, watching out for recurrence, hormonal effects, etc. Nausea and vomiting would be severe during the initial chemotherapy. Removal of hysterectomy would bring about hormonal changes and increase risk for breast cancer. Understanding these will help in identifying recurrence and altering lifestyle and following up after the treatment.

Survival guide
This would include changes including diet modification, adequate social support, and leading a healthy lifestyle to prevent recurrence.

Factors that can reduce the risk

  1. Having babies
  2. Breastfeeding
  3. Tubal ligation or hysterectomy
  4. Use of oral contraceptive pills

Mr. Lybrate-user, to control diabetes following steps need to be taken: 1) take appropriate drugs as prescribed by the doctor, without fail or missing a dose. 2) take a balanced but restricted diet, that should provide exact calories based on ideal body weight, extent of daily exercise and blood sugar levels. 3) daily regular exercise of at least 1 hour, brisk waliking is a good option. 4) consume great deal of green leafy vegetables, salads and permitted fruits (100 g a day) 5) avoid sweets, sweetened aerated drinks, deep fried foods, junk foods, pastries, fructose corn syrup containing products and highly processed foods. 6) you should strive to maintain fasting level around 100 mg, pp 150 to 160 mg and hba1c% <6.8. 7) refrain from alcohol and smoking. All these are the things referred as modified lifestyle. With regards.

To gain weight you should eat more calories than you burn. Plus not only you have to eat calorie dense food but you have to keep in mind that what you are eating is healthy too. In the process of weight gain you do not want to put weight in an uneven manner and look unhealthy rather than looking bright and healthy. 1.Start with changing your lifestly. Start working out if you are not active. The biggest myth that prevails now a days is that thin people do not need to work out. This is wrong. When you challenge your body, it is forced to grow. But this growth can only be possible if you are eating enough food to let the body absorb and grow in size and muscles. 2.Eat Healthy – Stop drinking and smoking too much if you are indulged in it. Limit your intake of junk food, pepsi, sugary stuff etc. Do not at all starve yourself. Make it a habit to eat something healthy every 3 hours. This means you have to eat 6 small meals in a day. Your Daily food intake should ideally consist of – a.Have plenty of nuts, dry fuits and seeds. Almonds, walnuts, sunflower seeds, pumpkin seeds, figs, dates and raisins. They are full of healthy fats needed by a human body. B.Good amount of fruits and vegetables – Bananas, apples, pomegranate, green leafy vegetables. Fruits and vegetables helps in absorption of food in the body and together, completes your daily nutrition need. C.If you are a non- vegetarian - Eat eggs, chicken etc. D.Eat whole grains – Try to have multi grains spread throughout the day. Wheat, brown rice, oats, bajra, daliya etc should be taken in multiple meals in a day. E.Eat Sprouts – Chana and moong which are full of protein and nutrients. F.You can supplement your diet with good quality multi-vitamin capsules. If you are lacking in protein, you can buy a high quality whey protein and have it with banana shake twice a day. G.You can take natural food items like wheat grass which is full of essential nutrients which helps in weight gain. Try to be patient while you are on the process of weight gain. Results take time to show. Just follow the regimen of weight gain religiously and you will soon start seeing the results.

avoid day time sleep, avoid tea/coffee in late evening and after. avoid stress. 8 hours of sleep is ok.. 10 pm to 6 am is good timing.

Hi, I had a cyst in ovary for which I take medicine for 6 month and it get resolved checked by ultrasound. NOw after stopping med last month I get periods after 32 days fro 3 days bt during current month I get it in 26 days and only from 1.5 day. Could you please tell me the problem why this happens?

Hello, You have to be patient and watch the pattern of bleeding for at least 1-2 cycles. This could be just a side effect of oc pills which you have been on since long.

This can be p versicolor, a fungal infection. She needs to apply ketoconazole shampoo during bathing for 2 weeks. Good luck.

Firstly remove, white flour, fried foods, packed and bakery food, white sugar from your diet. Take soaked sunflower seeds/ walnuts, fresh fruits, salads, fresh soups in your regular diet. Don't skip meal, take 3 meals with 2 mid meal snacks per day. Do 20 minutes Tummy massage in circular motion and gradually increase the circle size. Use sesame oil + liquid magnesium for massage. After massage take 1 cup Chamomile herbal tea. Replace your tea or other beverages with Chamomile Herbal tea. To improve eyesight, walk 20 minutes, barefoot over grass in early morning. In breakfast, 1 cup barley daily (don't add salt/ sugar) cooked in water. Add 150 ml milk and consume.

Lybrate-user, yup it could be due to hormonal change. But more important part is how to manage. Drink lots of water. Eat salad, fruits, n vegeis avoid eating junk, fatty n heavy diet reason being your digestion should be perfect. Avoid applying any xyz brand creams. Juzzz you can use dynamite facewash. Further addition of homoeo medicine you need to give detailed history. So revert back to me. You will be definatel fine.

Take a thin slice of lemon, sprinkle a bit of sugar on top and rub it on your lips. It will exfoliate dead cells so new, fresh skin can appear. Use this remedy daily for a few weeks. Alternatively, you can prepare a mixture of one-half teaspoon each of lemon juice, glycerin and honey.
