Weight Gain: Muscle Building Part III: Basic Guidelines to Follow

In this series of sections on Weight gain - We will discuss Basic Rules to follow for Muscle Building

Gradually increase your calorie intake

Eating 5 to 6 meals a day. In order to gain weight, start eating 5-6 meals a day by breaking them into parts. Eating a lot at once may cause indigestion if the body fails to absorb all nutrients. Eat in small amounts, even if you are not hungry and there will be an increase in appetite from day to day.

  1. Eat healthy and timely
  2. Have a balanced diet with heavy foods like - starchy vegetables, dense fruits, added oils and creamy soups
  3. Have foods rich in protein, avoid watery fruits and veggies
  4. Avoid trans-fats
  5. Do not binge, pace yourself through your diet regime
  6. Have dietary supplements and protein shakes
  7. Start weight training, Workout your entire body

If you build your muscles through weight training, it will convert the extra weight into lean body mass and also stimulate your appetite. The extra muscle increases the rate of metabolism.

When you start exercising you will often experience extreme muscle soreness but it goes away in 3-5 days.

A lot of people focus only on training the muscles on their arms, chest, and shoulders and this is a grave error. Firstly, it will give you a disproportionate body; and it will make you prone to injuries. Therefore, it's important to work out the entire body for a complete and balanced look.

Be patient and believe in yourself

Gaining weight quickly in a healthy manner is unrealistic. Every body type is different and it takes months to gain weight. Living healthy by eating the right diet will increase your strength. It is also important to keep following the routine even if you don't see any gains.

Things to remember

  1. Stop eating junk food, eat healthily
  2. Hydrate yourself well
  3. Rapid weight gain may cause stretch marks
  4. Be careful when choosing fatty foods as overindulging in them can lead to heart diseases and type 2 diabetes
  5. Overeating may cause bloating, stomach aches and cramps

Remember, all through the process of changing your body to what you wish requires great hard work, dedication, and motivation. With the right attitude and the overall aim of building a healthy body rather with patience pays out well than short term gain or synthetic means.

BHMS
Homeopath, Chennai
The cause of profuse white discharge is infection, anaemia, hormonal imbalances and any deficiencies. it is a not necesaary to have ueterus infection, check for normal viral fever. If she has pain in the lower abdomen then we need to suspect of any infection in the ueterus or vaigna. check with your near by gyanecologist.

Lactation itself causes stoppage / delay in periods, but pregnancy in lactation still can occur. So always use protection. Wait for 4-5 days and do a pregnancy test.

Do not be so casual about abortion. You should meet a gynecologist asap and get the relevant examination & consultation done. Do not put your wife's health at risk. The sooner you go, the better it is.

If she does not want to go to doctor, give her a mix of saunf, jeera & ajwain to chew after every meal. Boil 1 tsf dhaniya in 1 ltr water & give her to drink throughout whole day. Start these & consult privately for medication & further guidance.

She should have a balanced diet. Proteins, carbohydrates, fats, vegetables and fruits. Minerals like calcium zinc and most important iron because pregnant women have iron deficiency. Vitamins are also mandatory like vitamin d, folic acid etc. Thank you.

Dear lybrateuser, -not having sex doesn't directly affect a persons health, though having sex regularly is believed to improve mood, better circulation & cardiovascular health, improves immunity, reduces stress, help one sleep better -hair fall could be due to anemia, thyroid disorder (for which you require to do blood investigations), other reasons could be due to stress, seborrheic dermatitis, brushing too much -take well balanced diet with more of fruits & green leafy vegetables, protein & calcium rich food, have a handful of mixed dry fruits daily, do regular exercise, walking, jogging, yoga daily for 15-20 min -consult dermatologist to know exact cause & treatment.

Hello Doctor, My friend done HPV test and it is positive. Earlier (about 20 days before) she was suffering with a vaginal cyst and doctor did a immediate operation of this. Can you please tell me that if this virus is present in the body that is 100% cervical cancer or it may be any other reasons also to present this virus.

MBBS, MS - Obstetrics & Gynecology, Fellowship in Infertility (IVF Specialist)
Gynaecologist, Aurangabad
hi if HPV is positive then you need to monitor 6-12monthly for cervical cancer, if HPV is positive then it doesn't mean that it is 100% risk of cervical cancer. it depends upon strain of HPV and associate risk factors.

How to Live With PCOS

MRCOG, MD - Obstetrics & Gynaecology, DNB (Obstetrics and Gynecology), MBBS
IVF Specialist, Delhi
How to Live With PCOS

Polycystic ovarian syndrome (PCOS) is a medical condition related to a woman's endocrine system. This disorder is characterised by an imbalance of the sex hormones (oestrogen and progesterone), which leads to the development of multiple small cysts in the ovaries.

Following are the ways to Live with PCOS:

PCOS comes with numerous side effects like acne, obesity, infertility, excessive facial or body hair among others. There are certain lifestyle changes, which you may consider to manage PCOS and minimise its side effects.

  1. Try to maintain an ideal body weight - Obesity is known for worsening insulin resistance, and you can prevent this by regularly keeping your weight in check. You can practice some easy at-home exercise to reduce weight besides having a balanced diet.
  2. Change your diet - Opt for a low carbohydrate, low sugar diet to keep your insulin levels in control, as insulin is responsible for increasing the severity of PCOS symptoms.
  3. Get yourself checked regularly - Visit a doctor and get yourself checked regularly for potential health risks as PCOS is often associated with increased chances of diabetes, heart diseases, certain forms of cancer, hypertension, and high LDL (bad) cholesterol levels.
  4. Join a support group - Joining a PCOS support group will help you cope with your emotional difficulties, while helping you to live a better life by cultivating an optimistic outlook.
  5. Medications - There are certain medications like metformin and myoinositol that may help control the condition. Fertility treatment is usually done by Clomiphene, Letrozol or Gonadotropins.
