See mam your concern abt periods is expected. But let me tell you your mind is more important than cycles. And problem with cycle is for the time being. Its due to drugs probably. As prolactin is high you can consult your doctor to change the drugs slowly which has less action on hpa axis or prolactin level. But complete the course of treatment may be for more 4 months.

I started going to gym and stopped after one month. Now my whole body is paining. What can I do?
Never stop any kind of exercises all of a sudden. This will give rise to sever body pain due to lack of blood circulation. Take any pain killer for the time being after food. Take hot water bath and take rest.

I have screamed during a fight. Its been almost 5 months. From then I have been going through pitch problems during talking. There is always a feeling of hoarseness and breathless in my voice.

B. Sc. Speech & Hearing
Speech Therapist, Delhi
Screaming can cause damage in your vocal cords and result in voice change. Visit an ENT Doctor to rule out any damage in your vocal cords. Voice change can be cured by voice therapy by a speech pathologist. Take voice rest for sometime.

I have done something wrong with money and now the news is spread to my parents. They are reacting hard what shall I do now.

M.S. Counselling and Psychotherapy
Psychologist, Bangalore
You are very young, and obviously did not expect something will go wrong like this. I can imagine you to be in shock. You also might be feeling angry and hopeless. I guess, you did not have any bad intentions, and it is a pure mistake of judgement on your part. I can understand your parents' anger. They are angry for two things - first is their hard earned money is lost and second thing is they might be feeling betrayed by you, because you did not tell them about this, earlier. Now, for you - you need to understand that there are natural consequences for everything. So, if you have done something wrong without your parents' knowledge you need to know that the natural consequence would be their anger and loss of trust. And you need to face that. At the same time, they need to understand that at your age, because of lack of experience, such things happen. Hence, they should not be very strict or hard with you. Presently, you may explain to them, what you were thinking and expecting, when you indulged with their money. You need to make them understand, what did you expect to happen and what were your intentions. Then ask for forgivance and at the same time assure them of two things - one is how would you like to earn back that money (have some concrete plans) and how can they have faith in you again. If you are genuinely feeling sorry for what has happened and if you talk to your parents openly, citing your mistake of judgement and commitment to work hard in furture and not to lose their faith again, they will accept you with your mistake. Give them some time. For you, you need to know that you are very young and you need to be cautious in future. At the same time, you are a normal human being. And it is human to make mistakes. Allow yourself to accept this as a mistake and don't keep blaming yourself all the time. Learn from this experience. The bond you have shared with your parents, till now, will help you to come out of this. Be genuine and truthful. Take care.

Dear Vinay, Let me know why did you stop taking medicines- because you improved or side effects or doctor told you to stop. Sad mood, tiredness and sleepiness may be symptoms of depression or some other medical condition. Get back to doctor again and get diagnosed for depression or other causes of depression. Remember, some of the antidepressants can not be stopped all of a sudden.

I am a 21 years old man. Studying now. Been smoking cigarettes from roughly the age of 16. Recently took a chest x-ray in which the doctor was quite vague in telling me about it. He just answered that if I stop now i'll be good. What do you think? and p. s its really hard to quit.

Reparenting Technique, BA, BEd
Psychologist, Bangalore
It is not necessarily the length of time that is the problem, it is the age at which you started smoking. During the teenage years the nerves are still taking its final form and any smoking or drinking during this time affects their normal development and may even destroy them. The damage mostly has to do with memory, taking responsibility and decision making. If you were someone who inhaled deeply, much lung damage is expected too. Your doctor is right in that if you stopped smoking a lot of damage can be reversed except the damaged brain cells. It is therefore a wise decision to quit as early as possible and minimize the harm. The urge to discontinue is hampered by many factors but the worst of them is the conditioning. In fact these conditions can exist all through the day unlike other addictions. But your desire to want to stop is the most important factor. But try and try again until you succeed. It is important to find out about the ill-effects of smoking to have a reason that alarms you about continuing in the habit. The information is really scary but true. The nicotine in tobacco smoke stimulates the heart beat to raise the blood pressure in no time at all. So you must avoid it like the plague: it is just very bad medicine for you. In fact it is highly toxic too. You will need to stop smoking or consuming any tobacco related items with immediate effect. You should start vigorous exercises, gradually increasing it over a period of time. Do deep breathing exercises every time you feel like smoking (try Yoga), and replace the oral urge with some healthy food substitute to satiate the need. You may also take hard candy or chewing gum. If the urge is too strong, then use nicotine chewing gum or nicotine patches, for a little while until the smoking drive reduces, substantially. You may also join Smokers Anonymous in your city where the support is really extraordinary for like-minded people who are also in the same situation. Keep yourself occupied or engaged with interesting activities during the times when it is most tempting. Keep the company of non-smokers for some time i.e. at least for the first 21 days. Above all announce it to everyone that you have quit smoking. Here?s a piece of very good advice: even if you accidentally/willfully take a cigarette, it is not the end of the world ? you can start the cessation all over again. You must persevere with the best support until you defeat this addiction. Counseling is very useful in the initial stages and when temptations are at their highest.

Dear , if your father is stable and not violent and not disturbing others, I think you should leave him with the problem. This is a psychiatric problem called schizophrenia and needs lifelong treatment. Please see a psychiatrist in person.
