I am suffering from severe ear pains frequently since 5 days, due to this I am unable to sleep properly. What should I do?

Bachelor of Ayurveda, Medicine and Surgery (BAMS)

Hi lybrate-user, if you were having any cold or throat infection before, ear pain can be due to the spread of infection to ears. There are also other reasons for ear pain. It's better to get checked with an ent.

There are 2 kinds of tulsi leaves we come across. One is" ram tulsi" (which is lighter in shade) and the other one is" shyam tulsi" (which is darker in shade) you have to consume 10-15 leaves of" shyam tulsi" which means the leaves with darker shade. Take 20 to 25 leaves of shyam tulsi and grind it into a paste. Boil this paste in 100 ml of water until the water comes down to the level of 50 ml. Then mix 1 table spoon honey or jaggery in it. Consume this water swallowing (never chew tulsi because it has mercury in it will damage your teeth) the leave remains daily in 3 installments without break. I guarantee you that you will feel better instantly and will get a permanent cure in some days. Besides natural remedies doesn't even have any side effects along with them. Besides keep yourself warm and away from cold/heat. Tulsi has the power to bring down all types of fever, weakness, fatigue. Dosage: twice or thrice a day (make in morning with 20-25 leaves and consume it in one day, do not keep in refrigerator, put in glass vessel)

It seems you r sensitive to something. But it is hard to find out what is it. These type of allergic conditions are very well handled by homoeopathy.

I used to sing daily higher notes and then I suffered from cold and then throat tightness. Now my voice quality is poor something like very dull and throat does not feel like singing. Please tell me the way I can get my voice back? Will it ever come back?

MS - ENT, DNB (ENT)

It is possible that you suffered a laryngitis infection as a consequence of your sore throat/ cold. Kindly do not strain your vocal cords at the moment. Do not go to high notes as it strains your vocal cords. Do steam inhalation. Regards.

He is Suffering from tinnitus for 2 months. Continuous ringing in the ears specially left ear. In the night symptoms increases. What to do?

PDDM, MHA, MBBS
General Physician, Nashik
Thank you for your query. 1. Almost all people at some point in their lives experience tinnitus. Tinnitus does not have a cure, however, it may be controlled. How severe is your tinnitus on a scale of 1 to 10? 2. Get your ears examined to rule out any ear wax which is one of the commonest causes of Tinnitus. Also rule out any perforation of the ear drum. Decreased hearing also makes one more aware of tinnitus. Get a PTA (Pure Tone Audiogram) done. If you have a hearing loss, amplification may help mask the tinnitus. You may also get your middle ear pressures checked (Impedance Audiometry or Tympanometry). 3. The exact cause of Tinnitus is unknown. However one of the the agreed pathologies is damage to or loss of to hair cells in the inner ear. The role of the brain in the perception of Tinnitus also exists. For example, some people have been relieved of Tinnitus after a cerebral stroke, while some continue to hear it even after the Cochlear (Hearing) Nerve is cut. 4. What is your age? What is your exposure to occupational noise and loud music / earphones / mobile phones? Exposure to loud noise is also a leading cause for tinnitus. 5. If your Tinnitus increases on clenching the teeth, it may require dental bite correction. 6. I have noticed patients who have increased Tinnitus when they are stressed, have fluctuations of blood pressure, low hemoglobin, low blood sugar levels and so on. 7. Cochlear Synaptic Tinnitus may be treated in up to 50% people with Caroverine infusion followed by capsules for two months. Other treatments such as transtympanic steroids, gingko biloba, multi-vitamins and anti-oxidants may also help in reducing Tinnitus. 8. Kindly let me know the results of your investigations. This will help in suggesting further treatment. 9. I must emphasize that in a vast majority of patients of tinnitus, the cause is never found. However there are further treatment options depending on the type of tinnitus. I hope that I have answered your query. If you have any further questions, I will be available to answer them. Regards.

P. 100 mg Eptoin, qutipin 50, Telsartan-40v active. From 2 years he has been using these medicines. Does he need to go for a scan and change the medicines? Suggest us what we have to do.

If he had a ear bleed do get a ct scan of temporal bones done to rule out any fracture. It's better to get assured than later repent. Keep ear dry no water should go into ears. Avoid using ear drops. Get also an ent consultation done to ascertain if there is any injury to the ear drum. Will need to take a course of antibiotics after the consultation to avoid infection.

Normally I breathe through only one nostril only. If one nostril opens then the other one automatically become blocked. The problem is transfers to other nostril automatically and no problem with unblocked nostril. Is it a problem or it is general health condition?

Diploma in Hospital Administration, MD - Obstetrtics & Gynaecology, MBBS
General Physician, Delhi
Cases of blockage of nostril area stuffy or runny nose, mucus buildup, swollen nasal tissues, allergies, nasal polyps (noncancerous growths on the nasal passages or sinuses caused by inflammation of those areas), chronic sinusitis (a long-lasting sinus infection),tumors (usually benign, or noncancerous, masses that can cause congestion if they grow in the nasal passages), a deviated septum (the structure that separates the two sides of the nose is not located in the middle of the nose) Home remedies: Humidifiers that add moisture to the air may help to break up mucus and to soothe inflamed nasal passageways. However, if you have asthma, ask your doctor before using a humidifier. Propping your head up on pillows can also encourage mucus to flow out of your nasal passages. If right nostril is blocked, then sleep on your left lateral position.

BHMS, Certified in Aesthetic Skin Treatments, Certified in Applied Behaviour Analysis

Of all the possible holistic or alternative treatments available, Chronic Sinusitis stands the best chance of being cured by Homeopathy. The Homeopathic treatment of sinusitis is far superior as it does not resort to any strong medicines or antibiotics. The homeopathic medicine for sinusitis is mild and has the additional benefit that it does not cause any side effect at all. In fact, it strengthens the immunity of the patient and helps in fighting other infections also. Consult for homeopathic treatment with zero side-effects.
