Hi I am 33 year male height 5-8 weight 68 kg, I have mild bleeding in stool since 2007 & after a colonoscopy & biopsy done few days back I had been diagnosed with ulcerative colitis. Kindly let me know what is, how harmful is this disease, is it completely curable. Please help.

MD - Pathology
General Physician, Amritsar
Ulcerative colitis is a disease of autoimmune origin which affects colon and rectum. It shows remissions and relapses during its course. Sometimes it passes in remission on its own but usually requires medication, in the form of steroids or immunosuppressant drugs. Rarely in severe cases colon and rectum is removed and disease doesn't recur in gut though extra intestinal manifestations continue take treatment if you pass more than 4 stools in a day take supplements so that you do not develop anaemia and other vitamin deficiencies as your disease is long standing now, get colonoscopy done every year for early detection of cancer.

Indian gooseberry, also known as amla, can help increase a diminished appetite caused by gastrointestinal issues. It works as a tonic in the gi system, improving the functioning of the digestive tract and detoxifying the liver. When combined with honey, it also reduces nausea and vomiting. Moreover, being rich in vitamin c, it boosts the immune system and facilitates mineral absorption, both of which are important if nutritional deficiencies have resulted from lack of proper nourishment.

Local application of coconut oil or mustard oil or some soothing and calming lotion may provide relief in itching. Neem is one among the best blood purifier and detoxifier known to ayurveda. It enhances immune system and neem oil is an antiseptic in itself. Leaf extracts are used in antiseptics and can be effectively used in treating skin diseases. It destroys fungus and bacteria and is best for almost all kinds of skin diseases including redness of skin and itching.

Hello- Practice Kegel Exercises 1)Locate the right muscles Insert a finger inside your anus and squeeze the surrounding muscles. You can feel the PC muscle tighten or move upward when you contract it. Then, relax your muscles and feel your pelvic floor return to the starting position. Also try to stop the flow of urine when you urinate. Don’t do this on an extremely full bladder. 2)Practice Makes Perfect Contract your pelvic floor muscles, hold the contraction for five seconds, and then relax for five seconds. Practice it five to six times in a row. Work up to keeping the muscles contracted for ten seconds at a time, and then relax for another ten seconds between each contraction. 3)Focus While Exercising To have a faster result in a shorter period of time, focus your mind on tightening your pelvic floor muscles only. Do not flex the muscles in your abdomen, thighs or buttocks. Breathe normally and avoid holding your breath. 4)Repeat 3 times a day Practice at least three sets of ten repetitions a day. After a while, you’ll be able to exercise your PC muscles seamlessly. You’ll even be able to do them while doing your daily chores!
