If cough is reccurent it can be due to allergic cause. If cough is persistent for over 2 weeks with sputum it can be infectious specially tubercular. But exact diagnosis can only be made by evaluating the patient directly. Do not get worried by these facts.

Whiteheads - What Are They & How You Can Get Rid Of Them?

Whiteheads - What Are They & How You Can Get Rid Of Them?

Similar to blackheads are whiteheads, which develop on our skin. Both blackheads and whiteheads are caused due to clogged pores. However, as opposed to blackheads, whiteheads cannot be extracted by squeezing. Whiteheads are a form of acne that is referred to as closed comedo. They appear on the skin as small round white or light-coloured bumps. When excess oil is secreted in the skin, dead skin cells clog the pore area and block the pore opening, whiteheads are formed. Unlike blackheads that keep the pore open, whiteheads, on the other hand, block the pores.

Causes of whiteheads
Clogged pores are the prime reason that causes whiteheads, and they can occur due to any of the following reasons:

  • Excessive oil secretion or sebum
  • Hormonal changes occurring due to puberty, pregnancy, and menstruation
  • Birth control pills
  • Sweating and humidity
  • Use of certain cosmetics or products that are harmful
  • Eating excessive oily or greasy foods
  • Genetic predisposition

Treatment of whiteheads
Over-the-counter (OTC) creams or prescribed medications by a dermatologist are the ideal treatments for whiteheads. Self-care and some preventive measures will also keep them at bay. OTC creams that contain salicylic acid, benzoyl peroxide, resorcinol or sulphur may be helpful. With extreme conditions, oral medications like isotretinoin, or Accutane may be prescribed, but these come with potential side effects.

Self-care tips
Practising some of the following preventive self-care measures will prevent formation of whiteheads:
Wash your skin twice daily with lukewarm water and mild soap.

  • Don’t squeeze pimples.
  • Practice caution while shaving.
  • Avoid excessive exposure to sunlight.
  • Use oil-free skin products.
  • Remove makeup before going to bed.
  • Opt for non-comedogenic or non-pore-clogging products.
  • Wear loose-fitting clothing made of non-synthetic fabrics to let your skin breathe.
  • Wash your hair regularly.
  • Use fragrance-free water-based emollient for dry skin.
  • Continue your skincare regimen.

Here are some remedies you can try to get rid of whiteheads:

  1. Baking soda scrub: Make a homemade scrub mixing one tsp. of baking soda with enough water to make a paste. Scrub it into the problem area. Let it dry for 15-20 minutes and wash it off with lukewarm water. Baking soda is a natural exfoliant and astringent that eradicates all impurities, which clog the pores. It also balances the oil production in the skin.
  2. Tea tree oil: Dab a cotton swab with tea tree oil and apply it on the whiteheads to prevent bacterial infection.

The above are just some measures to avoid whiteheads. If the problem persists, then it's time to seek medical assistance and schedule an appointment with a dermatologist to eradicate these pesky whiteheads.

I am 41 years old Male (5o kg weight, O) and am working as Lecturer in a College in India. Since few months I am getting rashes on my skin if the weather changes, grey coloured stools (often). Near the toes of left leg the skin became rough and if scratched even lightly blood oozes out. My belly starts bulging now. I lost my appetite, sleep and even if I sleep it is not deep sleep. Recently my fingers started paining (Here in India Doctors said - may be Leishmaniasis (Testkit unavailable so confirmation cannot be done). Or HIV (I rule out this since I am unmarried and never had any sex with any woman) How to confirm any of these diseases?

Dear lybrate-user. Leishmaniasis is known to cause by protozoal infection manifesting in complex ways. When kit is not available, I hope you have consulted other specialist doctors too. Moreover simply guessing hiv will not lead you anywhere since there is some gaps in information what I guess. Even if it is established, pl see that hiv spreads not only by sex with women but there are many other routes too. For that pl explore net for full information you need. In my opinion if protozoal infection is there, rashes will not be linked with only change of season. For grey stools pl go for stool examination and general blood work and attach reports. Oozing of blood on scratching could be caused by eczematous skin too. Belly bulging, lack of appetite, lack of sleep should be tried to be connected with your lifestyle, food habits etc. So my advise is do not get scared unnecessarily without any solid investigations. For the time being start with cleaning the gut by herbal intestinal cleansers periodically, start fresh air walks, deep breathing, meditation even if for shortest periods initially. Modify your diet to light food, leafy greens, fibrous fruits being at least 25-50% of one major meals at least, take herbal - simple appetizers - and start caring your skin with herbal'raktashodhak' and external care herbs. Start it today. Start drinking warm water. With food, intermittently. See the changes in about 4 weeks and report and within that time try to rule out other diseases if not done already. For any further query please inform.

Chapped or dry lips are a common problem that can be painful and unattractive. Common symptoms are dryness, redness, cracking, flaking, and tender or sore lips. Some of the main causes are vitamin deficiency, allergic reaction, dehydration, smoking, excessive licking of lips, sun exposure and harsh weather. Castor oil is good treatment for dry and chapped lips. • Simply apply castor oil to your lips several times a day. • You can also make a soothing treatment using one teaspoon of castor oil, one teaspoon of glycerin and a few drops of fresh lemon juice. Mix it well and apply it on your lips before going to bed. In the morning, wash it off with a cotton ball dipped in lukewarm water. Repeat this daily until your lips are healed. • Homoeopathic LIP BALM ( BAKSON LAB) Apply twice daily

Her breast produces liquid white discharge during love-making sessions, when pressed with even little pressure. Only the left breast. Is it anything to be concerned about?

DHMS (Diploma in Homeopathic Medicine and Surgery)
Homeopath, Ludhiana
Normal nipple discharge more commonly occurs in both nipples and is often released when the nipples are compressed or squeezed (nipples may secrete fluid when they are stimulated or squeezed during love making). Some women who are concerned about breast secretions may actually cause it to worsen. They do this by repeatedly squeezing their nipples to check for nipple discharge. In these instances, leaving the nipples alone for a while may help the condition to improve. So no problem in your case. It is normal---------------------

7 herbal home remedies for burn
7 herbal home remedies for burn

People do experience small burns at home, especially in the kitchen due to boiling water or oil. When such things do happen, quick usage of certain home remedies do help. Here are some of them:

1. Aloe vera:
It is great for healing and soothing burns. Directly apply aloe vera gel on the burn. Its soothing and rejuvenating properties will help cool the burned skin. Since the active ingredient (acemannen) breaks down quickly, fresh inner leaf fillets are much preferred. Fresh aloe vera quickly soothes painful burns and often heals even serious burns with little or no scarring.

2. Honey:
This is a common home remedy used for burns and covering the burns with honey has been shown to produce less scarring. Raw honey has wonderful antiseptic and healing properties.

3. Diluted vinegar:
A wonderful and widely available household first-aid item for healing and soothing burns is diluted vinegar. Cover the burn area with a cloth soaked in diluted vinegar. Refresh the vinegar compress as often as needed, especially if the pain becomes stronger again.

4. Diluted lavender oil:
This is also known to help reduce the pain. A combination of aloe vera gel, vitamin c, lavender oil and vitamin e can work as a good salve that can be applied through the day.

5. Banana peels:
Sometimes, placing a banana peel on the burned area of the skin till it becomes black has proved beneficial for burn injuries.

6. Yogurt:
This also makes a person feel better but you should wait for at least 30 minutes before you apply this.

7. Olive oil:
This too brings relief.
In case the burns are more severe, please do consult a doctor.
