Swollen Feet, Ankles, and Hands (Edema) During Pregnancy

MBBS, DGO, MD - Obstetrtics & Gynaecology
Gynaecologist, Chennai
Swollen Feet, Ankles, and Hands (Edema) During Pregnancy

Ankles, feet and fingers often swell a little in pregnancy as your body is holding more water than usual.

Towards the end of the day, the extra water tends to gather in the lowest parts of the body, especially if the weather is hot or if you have been standing a lot. The gradual swelling isn't harmful to you or your baby, but it can be uncomfortable.

Avoiding and Easing Swollen ankles:

Try to:

  • Avoid standing for long periods
  • Wear comfortable shoes
  • Do the foot exercises

Foot Exercises During Pregnancy:

You can do foot exercises sitting or standing. They improve blood circulation, reduce swelling in the ankles, and prevent cramp in the calf muscles:

  1. Bend and stretch your foot up and down 30 times

  2. Rotate your foot in a circle eight times one way and eight times the other way

  3. Repeat with the other foot

When swelling can be serious:

You should seek medical attention immediately if your face, feet or hands swell up suddenly. A pregnancy condition called pre-eclampsia can cause sudden swelling, although most women with swelling don't have pre-ecplampsia.

If it happens to you, consult a gynaecologist, or hospital immediately. If you do have pre-eclampsia, you'll need to be monitored carefully, as the condition can be serious for both you and your baby.

Hello. Pre menstrual pain can be easily resolved by following these simple steps. Kindly ask your wife to apply castor oil four drops on her umlical region and try to make it absorbed by rotating with your fingers in a click wise manner. You can add a bit of astafoieda. Kindly apply the oil in a warm state. Kindly conduct a sonography of abdomen to find out the status of her uterus and ovaries. Possibility of PCOS has to be ruled out. If she is suffering from PCOS, then you will be required to first get treated of it. In the mean time you can get your sperm count checked to be sure that the problem is not from your side. I hope for the best to you. Kindly give your feedback if you are satisfied by my advice. Feel free to contact personally for more advice. Tk care.

Vaginal Odour - Is It Always A Sign of STDs?

MBBS, MS - Obstetrics & Gynecology, Fellowship in Infertility (IVF Specialist)
Gynaecologist, Aurangabad
Vaginal Odour - Is It Always A Sign of STDs?

Most women have their own distinct smell below the belt. It might be a little embarrassing to know that there is a feminine odor, sometimes foul, in the private parts of a lady. But, it is true that this smell can be a cause of concern as well. Vaginal odour is a symptom for sexually transmitted diseases like chlamydia and gonorrhea. Besides, a combination of factors including infection of the vaginal tract, unhygiene, gland secretions, sweating and improper clothing are responsible for vaginal odour.

Common reasons for vaginal odour:

  1. Bacterial vaginosis: It is a very common phenomenon. Vagina contains bacteria, which are produced there naturally. Bacterial vaginosis refers to bacterial overgrowth. It leads to vaginal odour. Most women experience this condition at least once during their lifetime, especially in the reproductive years. Though the exact cause behind its occurrence is unknown, it can occur due to having unprotected sex or frequent douching.
  2. Yeast Infection: The odour caused due to yeast infection is not very strong. But it has other symptoms like white vaginal discharge and itching. The discharge looks like cottage cheese and is caused due to the excess growth of yeast named Candida. There might be a burning sensation at the time of having sex or urination.
  3. Sexually transmitted diseases: Vaginal odour is a symptom for STDs like chlamydia and gonorrhea.
  4. Vaginal odour can intensify after having sex. It can also be caused due to inflammation of the pelvic region.

When is vaginal odour a signal for STDs?

Vaginal odour is normal. But, you need to watch out other symptoms to be sure that whether or not you are infected with STDs. If you have vaginal discharge, painful urination and difficulty in having sexual intercourse, there is a possibility of developing STDs. In case of STDs, the discharge is bloody or brown in colour. If you wish to discuss about any specific problem, you can consult a Gynaecologist.

Hi lybrate-user as far as your sperm count and motility is concerned most important for you is to quit smoking. You can also take supplements for sperm health. As far as your wife is concerned, she is suffering from endometriosis which causes a decrease in ovarian reserve. This with the fact that she has undergone 2 surgeries which further reduces ovarian reserve. And with age 35, she requires proper consultation for fertility including investigations if she doesn't conceive after trying spontaneously.

There are two ways. Take palliative medicine for your husband (herbal) or boost your sex desire by taking female sex desire booster plan to equal the 'smar' (in Sanskrit means war of sex).

Hello- your patches has nothing to do with your cessarean delivery. Its a kind of skin infection from which you are suffering now. Start ayurvedic medicines.
