Back pain at your age is usually due to strain. Medications will give relief, they will not heal the problem. Try resting (lying down) for a few days, go for walks at least 1 hour a day afterwards.

I have suffering from fever from past three days. What should I do, I have pain in my legs when I walk. Please reply me.

AUTLS, CCEDM, MD - Internal Medicine, MBBS

I have suffering from fever from past three days. What should I do, I have pain in my legs when I walk. Please reply me.
Fever is not considered medically significant until body temperature is above 100.4 F (38 C). Fever serves as one of the body's natural defences against bacteria and viruses which cannot live at a higher temperatures. Also, the body's defence mechanisms seem to work more efficiently at a higher temperature -Fevers of 104 F (40 C) or higher may be dangerous and demand immediate treatments like: -Acetaminophen (dolo-650 mg) twice or thrice can be used to lower a fever . Aspirin should not be used for fever in children/ adolescents or during a viral illness. -Wear loose fitting clothes and don’t overdress. Overdressing can cause temperature to rise further. -Tepid water (85 F [30 C]) bathsmay help bring down a fever  -The body should be cooled with a wet sponge. -A fever can cause severe dehydration. Drink plenty of fluids.. Have citrus fruits, particularly Vitamin C rich ones like mausami,Amla juice etc.  -Take light and easily digestible home cooked meals .avoid outside food -Wash hands frequently with soap and water especially after returning from public places or public transport.  -Further therapy depends on the cause of fever like urinary infection/typhoid or malaria/dengue infection and the accompanying symptoms that need to be investigated and treated accordingly

I am having very severe knee pain problems on my right knee from the past many months, due to which I cannot walk much & also unable to stand for a longer period/duration due to such knee pain. The X-ray reports of my both the knee (as on dated 26.10.2016) says the under-mentioned three things: 1. Digitogram reveals mild OA changes noted involving both knee joints. 2. The patella-femoral compartments show early affection. 3. Joint spaces of the knees are normal. I had tried lots & lots of medicines from the past two years in order to reduce my severe knee (joint) pain problems, but all the medicines had totally/completely failed & none of them had really worked or had helped me or either reduced my severe knee pain problems. I had also gone to many best orthopaedics doctors (nearly six to seven) of Kolkata during these past two years but the medicines prescribed by all of them (i.e these orthopaedics doctors) had not really helped me, even in the least manner or to the least level. I have heard from lots of people that, the medicine named" Macvestin"is very good & extremely helpful in reducing severe & continuous knee (especially joint) knee pain problems. Should I start taking this" Macvestin"tablet/medicine. If yes, then which" Macvestin"tablet should I start with i.e either 500 mg or 1000 mg. Please advice. How many tablets should I consume within 24 hours i.e one tablet or two tablet - i.e within a day. Is this tablet is to be taken/consumed - after eating breakfast, lunch or dinner. Please advice/suggest my all these above-mentioned queries in detail - in my email id i.e"krishnakumar. Chaturvedi@gmail.com"My mobile no. Back pain is quite common. Kindly rule out diabetes & vitamin d deficiency or any other metabolic disorder. Proper physiotherapy will help. Medicines will also be needed. Antioxidants like caldikind plus (from mankind) 1 tab /day helps. Paracetamol 250mg bd/tds will also give you relief kindly make sure that you are not allergic to any of the ingredients of the brands you are going to take. Common.

You shall use cervical collar which would help you to reduce the radiating pain and also that would improve the cervical angle and improve the anatomical posture. The pain actually triggers due to nerve compression and that would definitely improve by wearing a cervical collar. Anaemia always leads to the symptoms of being tired that can also be reason to have frequent pain in the whole body especially in the back bone. Once the oxygen levels in the blood comes down it automatically leads to improper functioning of the joints and muscles. It is also due to vacuum created in the joints as once the body lacks oxygen automatically the body becomes arid and that is one reason to get frequent pain the body ie. back bone. The hip muscles become tired thereby straining in a day with any physical activity might lead to back bone pain.. And also wear MCR chappals which will help you to prevent the weight falling on the hip while standing.

Hunching over a desk is a leading reason why people end up with crippling back pain at some point in their lives, specially for those who has desk job. But a few simple changes in the way you work can make your pain go away. 1-Keep your head up; Focus on aligning your head and neck right above your shoulders; avoid straining forward. 2-Be choosy with your chair: Pick one that allows your lower back to rest against a lumbar support. Then tilt the back of the chair so it’s very slightly reclined. 3-Plant your feet: Keep them flat on the floor and shoulder-width apart to quiet tension in your knees and ankles. 4-Take breaks: Getting up at least once an hour— just do some shoulder rolls—reduces pressure on spinal disks and boosts circulation. If your back pain is severe please go to a Physiotherapist for detail assessment and management of your pain. Best wishes.

Hi lybrate-user, I appreciate you seeking help. Well, it appears to be edema of the lower limbs. Should you not have any other specific symptoms apart from pain in the limbs, you can meet up a nephrologist at the earliest for further clinical assessment. Just make sure to take a heart healthy, balanced & anti-inflammatory diet, preferably Mediterranean. Try adding leafy greens, beans, pumpkin, grapes, watermelon, banana, beets, pineapple, garlic etc all to your diet. Restrict salt intake and foods that are processed, greasy, fatty, oily and also fast foods etc all. Follow dietary instructions as recommended by your doc specifically. If you require to stand or sit for a long time, do take frequent breaks, move around a little as convenient. At the same time, while sleeping, keep a pillow underneath your feet which shall help subside the swelling. You may also have to have a cardiology/ pulmonology opinion too, which your doc will suitably refer should it require. Hope this helps. Do take care and all the very best.

I am Kanchan, I had a stomach surgery last week. I am taking digeplex for food indigestion. Is it ok to take back to back? Or should I take intervals? What is the correct dosage I can take in a day? How long should I take this medicine for?

Dear user with the limited amount of information available it is difficult to comment on your condition. It is advisable if you can revert back with your diagnosis at the time of discharge so that we can have a better understanding of your situation. Digeplex is a digestive enzyme substitute, though harmless but it is advisable that it should be taken only on the prescription of a registered medical practitioner. Hope that solves your query.  Anything more then please feel free to revert.

My friend gets lower back pain in the backbone when he doesn't masturbate for a week. Also he gets pain in his lower abdomen if he doesn't ejaculate for a week or more. Both pain comes together. Both backbone and lower abdomen pain would go away in an hour after he masturbates. He feels relaxed after that. It feels for him like some gland which releases semen is getting loaded and its causing the pain. Which goes away once he ejaculates. Also while ejaculating when the semen is being released, he ll feel some minor pain in his lower abdomen or seminal gland or whatever. If he tries to press his lower abdomen (just below his belly) he can feel the pain. He even had ultrasound test of his lower abdomen and private area. It was found that he had varicocele in vas deferens. He says though he has varicocele but till why would he feel the pain in his lower abdomen and lower back if he doesn't masturbate for a week. Exactly on the seventh day he will feel the pain and would go and forcefully ejaculate to relieve from his pain. The pain would only increase if he holds back and doesn't masturbate. This is a very odd type of problem which not many people face. He has also met few doctors, most of them would say back pain is because of calcium deficiency, which really doesn't seem so. But they never gave an answer for lower abdominal pain occurrence and why he has to masturbate always to get relief from pain. So if anyone can understand my friends problem. Who has had treated something like this, though this surely is very complicated. Could you suggest what should be done. Whats is this problem. Thank-you in advance to every doctor who are gonna give their valuable suggestions.

For leg pain, please follow the below advise: please keep your leg raised while sitting or lying 1) quadriceps strengthening exercises -: 1. A) quad clenches: lie flat on your back sit upright on a chair with leg kept horizontally on another surface. Now, tighten the muscle on the front of the thigh by pushing your knee down. You should feel your thigh muscles clench, hold for 3 secs. Repeat 10 times twice a day. 1. B) short arcs: lie flat on your back or sit upright with your leg placed horizontally on a flat surface like a chair or bed. Place a rolled up towel under the knee. Pull your toes towards you and clench you thigh muscles. Slowly lift your foot up off the bed until your knee is straight (keep your knee resting on the towel). Hold for 3 secs and slowly lower them on the chair. Repeat 10 times twice a day. 1. C) straight leg raise: lie flat on your back. One leg and knee will be straight and other leg should be bent. Pull your toes towards you and tighten/clench the muscle on the front of the thigh, locking your knee straight. Lift your foot up in the air, about 6 inches off the bed. Hold for 3 secs and slowly lower the leg. The knee must remain straight the whole time you are doing this exercise. 2) hamstring stretching 2. A) towel hamstring stretch lie on the back, supporting the thigh with the hand or with a towel wrapped around it. Slowly straighten the knee until a stretch is felt in the back of the thigh, trying to get the bottom of the foot to face the ceiling, one leg at a time. Hold the position initially for 10 seconds, and gradually work up to 20 to 30 seconds. 2. B) seated hamstring stretch while sitting at the edge of a chair, straighten one leg in front of the body with the heel on the floor. Then, sit up straight and try pushing the navel towards the thigh without leaning the trunk of the body forwards. Hold this stretch for 30 seconds repeat 3 times for each leg. 3) calf stretches 3. A) standing calf stretch stand away from a wall and put your fight foot behind you and be sure your toes are facing forward. Lean forward at the ankle while bending the right knee and keeping your heel on the ground. Hold this for 30 to 60 seconds. Repeat 10 times a twice a day. 3. B) downward dog yoga stretch get down on all fours with your hands under your shoulders on the floor. Walk your hands forward slightly on the floor. Spread your fingers apart to allow for a broad base of support. Push your hips up toward the ceiling and tighten your abdominal muscles. Keep your heels on the ground and gently try and straighten your knees. Repeat 10 times a twice a day. 3. C) wall calf stretch stand about two feet away from a wall. Place the ball of your right foot against the wall while your heel remains on the ground. Slowly and gently lean into the wall while keeping your knee straight. Hold this for 5 seconds. Repeat 10 times twice a day. 3. D) downward dog yoga stretch get down on all fours with your hands under your shoulders on the floor. Contrast bath- fill two buckets/ tubs with very hot water and very cold water. Immerse your legs into the water for 3 minutes and then switch to cold water for 1 minute. Repeat this 3 times once a day. Wish you a very speedy recovery. Best of luck.

I have back pain from last one month and is its increasing day by day, what should I do to get rid of it?
Backache/sciatica in these kind of condition, the panchkarma therapy is very effective. The aim of the ayurveda treatment is to bring vitiated vata in equilibrium. Most popular panchkarma therapy for this is kati vasti, means squeezing of medicated oil with the help of cotton cloth over the lower back & retained inside with the help of a herbal paste boundary. It is a process of fomentation, highly effective for treating diseases caused by vitiation of vata dosha. Duration of treatment varies according to the severity of symptoms of the patient. Elakizhi- special herbal pack massage with kati vasti gives strength to the muscle and improves the mobility. Requirement of therapy -7, 14, 21 days therapy course depending on the severity of symptoms along with oral medicines for 3-4months.
