Treating leg pain at home

You can usually treat leg pain at home if it's due to cramps or a minor injury. Try the following home treatments when your leg pain is from muscle cramps, fatigue, or overuse:

  • Rest your leg as much as possible, and elevate your leg with pillows.
  • Take an over-the-counter pain reliever, such as aspirin or ibuprofen, to help ease discomfort as your leg heals.
  • Wear compression socks or stockings with support.
  • Apply ice

Apply ice to the affected area of your leg at least four times per day. You can do this even more frequently in the first few days after the pain appears. You can leave the ice on for as long as 15 minutes at a time.

Take a warm bath and stretch

Take a warm bath, and then gently stretch your muscles. If you have pain in the lower part of your leg, try pointing and straightening your toes when sitting or standing. If you have pain in the upper part of your leg, try to bend over and touch your toes. You can do this while sitting on the ground or standing up. Ease into each stretch, holding each position for five to 10 seconds. Stop stretching if your pain gets worse.

Preventing leg pain

You should always take time to stretch your muscles before and after exercising to prevent leg pain due to physical activity. It's also helpful to eat foods that are high in potassium, such as bananas and chicken, to help prevent injuries of the leg muscles and tendons.

You can help prevent medical conditions that may cause nerve damage in the legs by doing the following:

  • Exercise for 30 minutes per day, five days per week.
  • Maintain a healthy weight.
  • Avoid smoking.
  • Monitor your cholesterol and blood pressure, and take steps to keep them under control.
  • Limit your alcohol consumption to one drink per day if you're a woman or two drinks per day if you're a man.
  • Talk to your doctor about other ways to prevent the specific cause of your leg pain.

Consumption of counter pain relievers is advisable. A pain killer which reduces inflammation is highly recommendable. Some common ones are ibuprofen and aspirin.

My father has been having urine problem since many days. After taking paracetamol, he is fine for few days. But then later it started again. He has slight burning sensation and frequent urination. Sometimes he ts slight body pains and feverish feeling. Can we get frequent urination due to gastric problem? Or what are the possible causes for these symptoms?

Hello sir from long time I am feeling tiredness in my body and specially when I play cricket and run and then come to my home then I feel tired and feel pain in my whole body please advise me what should I do.

Dear, if you tired very fast and feeling weakness. Then you will definitely recover from weakness by following these very useful tips. * you should take proper balanced diet first. That means you have to take vegetables, milk, chapattis or rice, butter / cream, cereals (daals) or cheese every day. Very important thing, do not miss or skip your meals at any cost and take meals on time. * proper 6-8 hours sleep is very important. If your sleep is less than 6 hours, then you feel tired very early. So complete your sleep. * do breathing execises daily in morning & evening. Just sit down in peaceful place, close your eyes, take deep and long breaths in and out. Do it atleast for 10-15 minutes daily. You can also do pranayams like anulom vilom for better results. *take a walk, in first walk normally for 10-15 minutes for 15 days. You can do it on treadmill also. * you can take ashvagandha churn of baidyanath 1 teaspoon with milk daily for 2 months atleast to get your strength back. * check out your haemoglobin level in 3 months, if it is low you get tired early. So get treatment of low haemoglobin (anemia). If you have any disease like asthma /diabetes / hypertension, then get complete treatment of them. * avoid all fast foods and habit of smoking or drinking. You surely get great strength and recover from weakness by following these important things.

I am 62 years old. Weight 70 kgs now after maintaining 68 kgs in the previous 2 years. My lipid profile is controlled by taking 1 stanlip 145 mg at night only for last 7 years. For a very marginal sugar level of 130 (fasting) &150 (postprandial), I take Glyciphage SR500 1 after lunch (2 PM) and 1 after dinner (9 PM). But for the above I am normal. I normally do some deskwork on my laptop, watching TV or listening to music and go to sleep after midnight. Coming to my specific problem, I feel bearable pain of 3 in a scale of 0-10. The area of pain starts from about 6 inches to my left from my naval point. If I move my left hand from that point to further left, the pain area extends to another 6 inches or so. The pain exists not on the outer skin surface but approx from one cm from the outer skin inside the slightly hard flesh/muscle. There is zero pain my right side. And completely No pain on the back side if my move my fingers further parallel to the ground, on to my back. When I press with my fingers gently the pain increases to 5 of10. I feel the pain while I turn in the bed. When I sleep turning with my left (pain) portion down and do not move, the pain is not felt. The pain started 72 hours back at around 9 am and continues till now. It is uniform pain of 3 of 10 and has not increased. I do not know what caused it. I remember 2 days before the pain started that when I was moving in the scooter slowly, put my left foot down firmly to stop the vehicle apart from applying the breaks with one pillion. But that was very mild and I doubt if that can be the reason. While working for long hours sitting before laptop, I almost do not feel the pain. Kindly clarify to me the cause of pain for about 72 hours, pls give me a remedy without prescribing a series of medicines or going to doctor immediately. Pls give simple remedies to try and start with. I as a layman, also feel that the pain may just go away naturally in another day or two. I may be right or wrong. Awaiting your response.

I am suffering from high fever and body pain and also feeling cold. Some said that these are the symptoms of DENGUE, but I don't have any kind of rashes on my skin as they are one of the symptoms of Dengue. So please guide me what should be my diet and precautions to prevent any serious illness.

Hi, first of all for initial stages of mild fever - take Schwabe's Biocombination - 11 immediately. But in later stages of fever with some other cause (apart from cough & cold) and symptoms, need to know more details. May be, some blood tests will have to be advised..for proper diagnosis and treatment.
