5 Simple Ways To Avoid Diaper Rash For Your Baby

5 Simple Ways To Avoid Diaper Rash For Your Baby
Tips to prevent irritant diaper dermatitis (diaper rash)

A mother's prime focus always is how to ensure that her child is happy and comfortable, especially when the child is too small. One of the problems which bothers many mothers who are bringing up really small children, is diaper rash. Sensitive skin, tight diaper and prolonged contact with feces and urine etc are common reasons for diaper rash or irritant diaper dermatitis.

Here are few tips to avoid diaper rash and ensuring your child is always comfortable.

1. Careful with wash: if you are using a cloth diaper, be extra careful in washing such that there is no soap remaining in the cloth.

2. Clean well: when bathing your baby, make sure you clean the area covered by diaper with a mild soap and do not rub the area while drying, since the skin is sensitive.

3. Remove soiled diaper instantly: this is the most important. However busy you are, you need to aware of the times when the diaper/cloth has been soiled. And when soiled, the diaper has to be changed at the earliest. Do not keep your baby in the diaper for all hours of the day. It is good if they are out of the diaper for some time every day.

4. Keep the diaper loose. Also, ensure that you wash the cotton diapers with fabric softeners and try to avoid wipes altogether as they have strong chemicals in them.

5. Keep a tab on rashes: if your baby does get the rashes, check with the pediatrician at the earliest. Frequent topical applications of a bland protective barrier agent (zinc oxide paste) may suffice to prevent dermatitis. There are also chances of fungal infections. Antifungal creams should be used on advice of a doctor.

My daughter is 3.6 years, she coughs once she wakes up from sleep, sounds from throat while sleeping, coughs while laughing or playing.

Coughing often becomes worse at night because a person is lying flat in bed. Mucus can pool in the back of the throat and cause coughing. Sleeping with the head elevated can decrease postnasal drip and symptoms of GERD, which both cause coughing at night. Snoring happens when you can't move air freely through your nose and throat during sleep. This makes the surrounding tissues vibrate, which produces the familiar snoring sound. People who snore often have too much throat and nasal tissue or “floppy” tissue that is more prone to vibrate. The position of your tongue can also get in the way of smooth breathing.

Dear lybrate-user, There is no blanket treatment for cough. Cough is a very common condition, however, the cause is different in each child and at different times in same child. Kindly consult a Pediatrician for the appropriate treatment. Stay Healthy, Stay Happy Kind regards.

For running nose put saline nasal drops frequently into each nostril. Cough for such a long duration might need evaluation.

It's called as nipple confusion. So never mix the habit of two. Give exclusive breast feeds not bottle at all. Give cup spoon feed if not taking breast feeds.

I want to wean him off feeding now. My query is can I give him buffalo milk mixed in 50% boiled water? Or is it necessary to give him cow milk only?

Hi lybrate-user I see that your child is 8 months old. It's great that you have started weaning. You don't need to stop breast feeding till 2 yr. If you wish to give milk pasteurised milk is better.

Exclusive breastfeeding to satisfaction of baby up to 6 months of age is only way to increase baby wt. If baby is fed properly, from 10th to 14th day of age, wt comes equal to B wt. Thereafter it increases by about 30 gm per day. Mother should take good nourishing diet. If you have any further queries please contact me privately through Lybrate.

My son who is 8 years old, good in studies but while talking he is not clear in words. Like in Hindi he calls words SH, says "S" and "the" says "TA" While staring at him or correcting him, he corrects it Can you help me with speech therapist Thanks.

He may have mild difficulty in pronociation. If all other functions are normal then do not worry about it. It will also become normal wuth age. Be careful not to frequently correct him. Criicize him or make fun of him, because if you do this then your son will gradually lose confidence to talk freely and strat withdrawing or avoiding situation where he needs to talk.
