Do not start with cow or buffalo milk until child crosses 1 year. Reason for crying might be colic pain so start with colic aid drops 4-5 drops 3-4 times a day, other alternative for breast feeding is formula feed which is available as lactogen or nan. I suggest you not to start formula feed if you are having enough breast milk. Continue breast milk atleast for 1 year.

If legs widening is not congenital, it is usually due to vitamin D deficiency particularly in poor family. Vitamin D 6oooo iu once in a week for 3 weeks and Calcium tab 2 times in a day may be given after seeing blood report. Sun exposure of body is useful.

You need not to worry. This is regurgitation occurs after feed usually due to swallowing of air too during feed. If feeding with bottle, switch to spoon feeding which shall reduce episodes of regurgitation. Give more time to burping. At this age if her wt is about 6 kg, it indicates she is taking required feed.

My baby 4 months old, her eye in infection and eye under in yellow type (chip-chip) dust. I given the mezol eye drop. Please advice me.

MD - Paediatrics
Pediatrician, Ranchi
Hello Mezol contains decongestant Naphazoline and it won't help in infection.I would suggest you to use ciplox eye drop 1 drop each eye 4-6 times a day. First wash your hand with soap properly and then clean the eye from inside to outside with the help of cotton swab soaked in distilled water each time before putting the eye drop.Avoid Kajal if you are using it.

With so many symptoms it is better to show a neuro pediatrician at least once. And have to talk frankly about long term effect of it. Schooling, mental behaviour is also to be talked out. Need not to be visit frequently to other Dr. Once you are satisfied.

Hi, I have a 19 month old daughter. She is always throwing tantrums and gets upset over small things. She cries a lot when we don't give her whatever she desires and eventually has her way. I don't want to spoil her and need help to understand her psychology and control her behavior.

Reparenting Technique, BA, BEd
Psychologist, Bangalore
This is the terrible twos. The child was once the center of the world and has to now adjust to the fact that you are going to have to meet some of your own needs before hers. She will not be able to take it for some time. You need to set boundaries and let the child know that she will not be neglected but she must develop a little patience. She will throw tantrums to force the attention from you and she will try to control you too. Help her tide over this phase without rejecting her. For example, you can tell her to stop crying when she wants something until you are available or finished doing whatever you are doing. She can cry a little but do not allow her to whine or holler for too long. She will also learn anger management at a child level with these types of behaviors. Don?t ever deprive her of love. As this process unfolds, she will develop good self-control and will be a fabulous child as time flies by. Later on you will also find it easy with her for this worthwhile investment. It may last for a year maximum, if handled well.

My son aged 5 years sleeps in the night with his mouth open. Is this any problem?

Pediatrician, Pune
If he snores, has sleeping problem, gets recurrent upper respiratory tract infections, get him evaluated for enlarged adenoids.
