Hi thanks for your query and welcome to lybrate. I am Dr. Akshay from fortis hospital, new delhi. Your knee pain could be due to certain reasons but common ones are chondromalacia, pain due to knee instability, inflammation etc. If there is no history of any injury, and no s/s of inflammation or infection like swelling, skin redness or local warmth on touching, then I will like to advise you for conservative management initially in form of: - intensive physical therapy with focus on strengthening of quadriceps and stretching of other group of muscles - gentle anti inflammatory medications like tab etoshine or tab paracetamol can be taken in small doses for 5-7 days - adequate calcium and vitamin d supplementation as per requirement - ice packs at home for 3-4 times in a day and see how it goes for around 2 weeks time. If your condition does not improve, then we will have to get certain investigations done. Do not hesitate to contact me if you need any further assistance. I am 19 years old, suffering for shoulder pain form last two months it started when I was doing pushup exercise, since from the day pain started i'm not doing any work. The pain is like holding 20 to 30 kg weight continuously, maximum pain is in right shoulder and little in left shoulder, usually in day time pains increases when I wright, lift some weight or hold something but in sleep I won't feel any pain, even I gone through physiotherapy for 7 days but problem is not solved. The pain will be there only for 10 to 15 minutes but 4 to 5 times a day I experience this pain. What should I do what is the cause for this?

Give rest to the part. Do no massage. Sleep on a hard bed with soft bedding on it. Spring beds, folding beds or thick matress are harmful use no pillow under the head. Do hot fomantation. Paracetamol 250mg od & sos x 5days. Caldikind plus 1tab od x10. It may have to be further investigated. You will need other supportive medicines also. Make sure you are not allergic to any of the medicines you are going to take. If it does not give relief in 4-5days, contact me again. Do not ignore. It could be beginning of a serious problem.

It's for my friend. 4 years back suddenly pain started from within the left knee. Then there was swelling and it was paining. So he had painkillers. Thereafter he went for phileria tests as advised by doctors at St Johns Hospital, bangalore, India. DC, TCT tests came out to be normal. Only vitamin D content was less so as advised medicines were prescribed and taken. However the pain still persists even after such a long time. Please advise.

It needs to be investigated. Investigations advised - hb, tlc, dlc, esr, sugar f & pp, uric acid, vit d3 urine r/e x ray of the affected part. Anyway you may try- sleep on a hard bed with soft bedding on it. Spring beds, folding beds or thick mattress are harmful use no pillow under the head. Do hot fomantation. Paracetamol 250mg od & sos x 5days. Caldikind plus 1tab od x10. Do neck back knee & general exercises. It may have to be further investigated. Make sure you are not allergic to any of the medicines you are going to take. If it does not give relief in 4-5days, inform.

Since you have pain in shoulder region since 7 days only and that also happened after sleep at night, I would advise you: 1) to start with anti-inflammatory medications( short course) 2) intensive physical therapy 3) ice packs and local analgesic spray for local application. Dear Doctor, My mother is 76 years old. She is usually very agile, workaholic from the time I had seen her. She takes care of cooking & other household work till now. Her daily routine is: Gets up at 4.30 am in the morning, goes out for walking by 5.00 am. Walks between 30 - 40 minutes. Comes back - does meditation for 20 min; then does Yoga for 30 minutes. By the time she finishes all this it will be around 6.30 am. Then she goes to Kitchen and does breakfast and lunch for my wife and children - as they get ready to go to their work. Goes back to bed around 11.00 pm. Till she retires to bed, she is almost doing some work in the house. Maybe takes 1 hr rest in the noon time. Coming to her health issue: She has been diagnosed for diabetes for the past 4 years and is taking Glycomet GP1 - one tab in the morning and one at night; Her sugar reading taken a couple of days back reads: Fasting: 189 and PP 196. Her food habits: Breakfast: 3 idli or 2 chapattis or 2 doses. Lunch: Rice with some dal and vegetables and 1 green; Dinner: 2 chapattis; Upuma or Kichadi. Eats a piece of apple and guava and some dry fruits and nuts. Has one glass of milk before going to bed. For the past 6 months she is finding it difficult to walk outside, as her legs are paining. Pain radiates from bottom part of hip till the heels of her both legs. Usually she walks faster than men. Now she is feels her legs are heavy and knees paining as she walks. End of her walk back home, she is sweating and panting for breath; Her question is: She does everything that is recommended and advised by Doctors. Still why would she be having such a problem at her age? What investigations are to be done? Which specialist doctor has she to check about her health issue? Would appreciate your thoughts and advise to my dear mother.

Hello you need not worry. She needs a change in medications, take her to md Dr. Also take following ingredients and make a powder: almonds - 50 green elaichi - 50 neem leaves dry - 50 whole black pepper - 50 bhunna channa - 125 g. Take 1 tsp after breakfast and 1 tsp before dinner. Don't skip breakfast. Sleep for 7-9 hours per night is must for her. Include whole grains, sprouts, seasonal fruits and vegetables, salad vegetables like cucumber, kakri, onion, tomato etc. Include green tea 4-5 times a day. Thank you.

Hi ~use elastic bandages (such as an ace bandage) to wrap your ankle. ~wear a brace to support your ankle. ~use crutches for walking till swelling and pain subsides. ~keep your foot raised above your heart with pillows when resting or sleeping to reduce swelling. ~get plenty of rest and do not put weight on your ankle. Still you don't get relief than visit physiotherapist as physical examination /xray may be required for further investigation. Do reply for detailed treatment plan. Wishing you a good health.

Best thing is to control your anxiety first by practicing pranayam and meditation. Then see that all 'vaatkarak' food which include Potato, rice, urad, etc should be avoided. 'Abhishyandi' food such as curd should be avoided. Vaatnashak medicines should be given to initiate Deepan, shodhan, paachan i.e. to set right digestion and metabolism. Current state of disease that is to say blood repirts/ xray or mri, usg etc reports be sent for assessment. Till then pl take turmeric and moringa powders with warm water. After getting info, proper treatment would be initiated. Its a long term plan so be prepared. Pl avoid pain killers.

Do cold water or ice fomentation on injection site. If you have pain on that site then consult a physician clinically for further management.

Hamstring Stretch Lie on your back with your left leg flat on the floor. Loop a towel or rope around your right foot and pull your leg as far as comfortable toward your chest, while keeping a slight bend at the knee. Keep your back pressed to the floor throughout the stretch. Hold for 10 to 30 seconds and then release. Repeat 3 or 4 times with each leg. Do this stretch 5 or 6 times a week. Short-Arc Knee Extensions In the same starting position as the straight-leg raises, put a ball (about the size of a basketball) under your left knee so that your leg is bent. Slowly straighten your leg. Hold, then slowly lower. Repeat with your right leg. Exercises To Avoid A few of the following exercises can be done safely if you have chronic knee problems; they're on this list because they're more likely to be done improperly. The exercises above are safer, while still giving you similar results. •Full-arc knee extensions •Lunges •Deep squats •Hurdler's stretches.

Hi, thanks for your query and welcome to lybrate. You have persistent back and neck pains. If you have localized neck and back pain with no other symptoms like radiating upper limb pain and leg pain, neurological symptoms like numbness, weakness, paresthesias etc and with no other associated constitutional symptoms like evening rise in temperature, loss of weight, excessive sweating at night etc, then you can start with following recommendations for initial period of 2-3 weeks: - to maintain proper posture of your back and neck while working and sleeping - if pain is more then you can take a short course of an anti-inflammatory medication like tab etoshine or paracetamol or one which suits you - physical therapy initially under supervision of a trained physiotherapist and then to continue at home - adequate calcium & vitamin d intake if levels are low in body - ice packs can applied if your pain is acute, then hot fomentation can be done at home - analgesic spray for local application can be used and is easily available. - avoid lifting heavyweight/ acute forward bending in mornings etc we will observe you for next 2-3 weeks how you respond to this conservative management protocol. If you are not feeling better, then we will have to get some investigations like, dynamic x rays of lower back and neck region and few blood tests for evaluation. Hi cramps happen due to deficiency of water intake, vitamin D3 and vitamin B12. So, make sure this is properly maintained. Currently, just take hot packs twice daily and do some stretching exercise for your back muscles.

Please get an mri asap. Most common cause is pressure on nerves roots while they come out of spinal column.

Dear lybrate-user the degree of knock knees will be ascertained after the x-ray both knees in standing position. In mild case, we give corrective shoes to wear, with little modification in sole. Braces will not be very help full in your age. Surgery is required in severe case.

My wife is experiencing deep pain in both her calves since the last 2 days. She does not seem to think the pain is muscular. She is 35 years old and weighs 52 kg's.

Hi thanks for your query and welcome to lybrate. I am Dr. Akshay from fortis hospital, new delhi. Actually pain at calf/leg region can be due to many reasons, commonly it is muscular in nature but it can also be due to tendons, nerves, blood vessels etc. My advise to you for initial 2-3 weeks will be: - ice packs application intensively with elevation of your limbs at night - take a short course of anti-inflammatory medication as per your body's suitability - stop your physical activity till pain completely subsides - intensive physical therapy, training and proper muscle conditioning once pain has subsided - slow resumption of physical activities with proper pre activity warm up and stretching of muscles and short increments in duration of physical activity each day as per pain tolerance. - we will get some blood tests for you - serum vitamin d and serum potassium levels, esr and crp once you have all these reports then you can contact me as I can advise you for proper supplementation do not hesitate to contact me if you need any further assistance.
