Knee advice. Avoid sitting cross legged. Avoid squatting- quadriceps exercises- lie straight, make a towel role and put it under the knee, press the keen against the role, hold it for 20 secs. Repeat 20 times twice a day. This will help relieve some pain. Core strengthening exercise- straight leg raised with toes turned outward, repeat 10 times, twice a day. Hams stretching- lie straight, take the leg up, pull the feet towards yourself, with a elastic tube or normal belt. Repeat 10 times, twice a day. Sports taping- stretch the tape from both ends and apply on the affected area contrast fomentation (hot and cold).

Hello, sometimes sleeping on wrong type of beds can also cause pain in the back. Take homoeopathic medicine rhus tox 30 (4 drops in little water) thrice a day for a week and update.

I am 40 years old male. I have lower back pain from the last 15 years It developed gradually. I have done many treatments like physiotherapy, allopathy medicines etc it doesn't worked. I feel a lot of pain in my back especially after sex and in the morning time. I have not done any scan like MRI etc. I have got only basic treatment from doctors but the pain is still there. kindly take ashwagandha powder, 1 tsf in a glass of warm milk ,1 hr after meals twice a day. Take maharajah prasani oil capsules, 2 caps twice a day after meals with half a glass of warm water. Take panchamruta loha guggal tabs, 1 tab, three times a day, after meals with half a glass of warm water. Avoid cold water, curd, excess tea and other cold eatables in your routine. Avoid standing for long hrs and soft mattress for sleeping. Do gentle massage with maha narayana oil over the back up to both legs. Continue the regime for 45 days. Consult some good ayurveda doctor for panchakarma treatment. Good luck

Here are some tips for how to handle your back pain: -stop normal physical activity for the first few days. This will help relieve your symptoms and reduce any swelling in the area of the pain. -apply heat or ice to the painful area. One good method is to use ice for the first 48 to 72 hours, and then use heat. Take pain relievers medicine. --while sleeping, try lying in a curled-up, fetal position with a pillow between your legs. If you usually sleep on your back, place a pillow or rolled towel under your knees to relieve pressure. -do not perform activities that involve heavy lifting or twisting of your back for the first 6 weeks after the pain begins. -avoid bending forward and sitting in a place for long time -stretching and strengthening exercises are important. But, starting these exercises too soon after an injury can make your pain worse. -some physiotherapy treatment like ift can give you some relief. -a physical therapist can tell you when to begin stretching and strengthening exercises and how to do them. Dehydration is one of the most common causes of a headache. In such cases, simply drinking a cool glass of water can cure your headache within minutes. It is a good idea to drink about eight to ten glasses of water throughout the day to keep your body well hydrated.

Apply Hot Fomentation twice daily .Avoid bending in front. Postural Correction- Sit Tall, Walk Tall. .Extension Exercises x 15 times x twice daily – lying on tummy, take left arm up for 3 seconds, then bring it down, right arm up for 3 seconds, bring down. Bring right leg up, hold for 3 seconds, bring it down. Then right leg up and hold for 3 seconds and bring it down. Repeat twice a day- 10 times. Bhujang Asana ? Lie flat on your stomach, keeping the palms out, bend the neck backward, take a deep breath and while holding it for 6 seconds, raise the chest up. Release breath and relax your body. Repeat the exercise 15 times twice daily. Core Strengthening Exercises- Straight Leg Raised With Toes Turned Outward, repeat 10 times, twice a day.

Hi. Is there any history of injury or hurt to the area? any underlying medical condition? the pain in legs can be because of - muscle cramps (due to tiredness or dehydration), shin splints (doing activity over and over on hard surfaces can bring this on. You may also be more likely to get shin splints if you have flat feet or your feet turn outward. Rest your legs to feel better. Ice helps), tendinitis (you can get it from overworking the calf muscle or climbing the stairs, apply ice to get some relief), sprains (do rest, ice, compression & elevation). Other causes are varicose veins, arterial disease, sciatica, diabetic neuropathy. Medication: meantime, take homoeopathic medicines - arnica 200 and rhus tox. 200 - take both of them thrice daily for 1 week. Also, apply schwabe's topi-arnica and topi mp gel on the affected area in circular motions gently thrice a day. And wrap crepe bandage over it. Get back to me thereafter.

Acording to your height your weight is bit more. You need to reduce your weight by two kg. And you need totake care about few things like do not bend your knee more than 90 degree. Means do not sit on the floor. Use western toilet instead of indian toilet. Use dinning table while taking lunch dinner or breakfast. I mean do not sit on floor. Do not squate. Nd try to strength your quadriceps muscle. For that go t a gym where they teach you exercise for that. And consult an orthopaedician and do an x ray. If you hv cartize damage orthopaedician wil prescribe you some drugs.

Dear dr. I have a pain in my right joint of shoulder. I guess it is call tendo pain. Is it a cervical spondylitis. Have taken physiotherapy for 10 days. Pain has got reliefed but not fully. At some times it pains. Can you suggest what needs to be done.

Hi thanks for your query and welcome to lybrate. I am Dr. Akshay from fortis hospital, new delhi. Shoulder pain could be due to multiple reasons like tendinitis, arthrosis, rotator cuff pathology etc. Cervical spondylitis is an entirely different pathology so the two should not be confused at all. Your pain could be due to some tendinitis in your shoulder. But since physical therapy has helped you, I advise to continue the same and take short course anti-inflammatory medication for 5-7 days. Dear Suryank I'm Dr Prashant Parate, Shoulder and Knee Surgeon, sports injuries Specialist. I would like to tell you that if you properly do exercises and running, use good quality shoes and change them frequently as advised by guidelines, run on proper surfaces and not on tar roads, then your joints will get in good shape.

What's your age/sex? if there was any trauma to the toe you should get an x-ray done to rule out any bone injury. If there is a fracture then you should see any good orthopedic doctor. Also get your uric acid levels tested.

Avoid weight bearing if knee is painful. Walk with the help of elbow crutches in both hands. Apply elastocrepe bandage and ice over knee. Start physiotherapy. Consult specialist in arthroscopy and sports medicine for further treatment.

It needs to be investigated. Investigations advised - hb, tlc, dlc, esr, sugar f & pp, uric acid, vit d3 urine r/e x ray of the affected part. Anyway you may try- sleep on a hard bed with soft bedding on it. Spring beds, folding beds or thick mattress are harmful use no pillow under the head. Do hot fomentation. Paracetamol 250mg od & sos x 5days. Caldikind plus 1tab od x10. Do neck back knee & general exercises. It may have to be further investigated. Make sure you are not allergic to any of the medicines you are going to take. If it does not give relief in 4-5 days, inform

I have no experience of using etacept injection. Anyway kindly show me digital x rays of affected part. Rule out diabetes & vit. D deficiency or any other metabolic disorder. Sleep on a hard bed with soft bedding on it. Spring beds, folding beds or thick matress are harmful use no pillow under the head. Do hot fomantation. Ibuprofen 200mg od & sos x 5days bio d3 max 1tab od x10 do deep breathing & general exercises. It may have to be further investigated. You will need other supportive medicines also. Make sure you are not allergic to any of the medicines you are going to take. Do reply back for detailed treatment plan. Do not ignore. It could be beginning of a serious problem.

Steps Involved in Knee Replacement Procedure

Steps Involved in Knee Replacement Procedure

Knee replacement is a procedure where the weight-carrying surfaces of knee joint are replaced surgically to ease the pain or any disability. People suffering from osteoarthritis, rheumatoid arthritis or psoriatic arthritis undergo knee replacement. All these conditions revolve around stiffness and painful knee. This surgery is usually performed on people aged over 50.

Surgery Types: 
Knee replacement is mainly of two main types:

  1. Total knee replacement where both the sides of knee joints are replaced
  2. Partial knee replacement where only single side of the joint is replaced

Procedure: In case of partial knee replacement with minimal invasion, a smaller incision, which is 3 to 5 inches, is required. This leads to minimal tissue damage and the surgeon can work between the fibres of the quadriceps muscles. Here, an incision through the tendon is not required. This may result in less pain, recovery time is reduced, and motion is better as scar tissue formation is less.

In total knee replacement, four steps are performed:

  1. Removal of damaged cartilage surfaces, which is at the ends of the femur and tibia, with a small quantity of underlying bone.
  2. Replacement with metal components, which help as a recreated surface of the joint
  3. Incision of knee cap with a resurface made of a plastic button, which is optional based on the case
  4. Insertion of a medical grade plastic spacer amid the metal components. This creates an effortless gliding surface.

After general or spinal anaesthesia, an incision of 8-12 inches is made in the front part of the knee. Joint part which is damaged is removed from the surface of the bones. The surfaces are then formed in a way to hold a metal or plastic artificial joint. The thigh bone shin as well as knee cap is attached to the artificial joint with either cement or a special material.

After Effects of the Procedure: After the surgery, patients may stay in a hospital for three to five days. Post surgery, notable improvement can be seen after a month or later. The patient is gradually relieved from pain with the construction of new gliding surface during surgery.

There will be slow progress in the movement. In the beginning, one may walk with a support of parallel bars and then with the help of crutches, walker, or cane. After full recovery in about six weeks, people can enjoy normal activities except running or jumping.

Presently, over 90% of total knee replacements function well even after 15 years of surgery. Hence, knee problem is no problem at all!
