My son age 6 years high fever for 2 days with shivering sometimes is in cefuroxime and paracetamol 5ml three times a day also has cough. My question is how long we have to give this medicine to him.

MD - Paediatrics, MBBS
Pediatrician, Tumkur
Most probably it's viral infection which usually lasts for 7-10 days. Fever may last for 3-5days. Give paracetamol 250mg whenever there is fever. Don't give cefuroxime.

Hi sir.
Hamara ek baby boy hai 3 years ka. Wo bahut hi ziddi hai or hr time koi na koi sararat krta hai. Jis kaam ko ...
It seems that you feel the situation is out of your control and you are looking for the means to change your son's behavior. Little children are like a sponge, they absorb things and learn front us and environment around them. There are main two reason that children misbehave. 1. They want your attention and love. 2. Just like any human they too are wired to assert power. When they misbehave and gets attention they feel powerful and continue to behave that way. Right now I do understand that you get frustrated with his behavior and out of your own habit you might show some kind of aggression by shouting or sometimes even slapping. Abusing someone is not a solution to any problem rather it worsens the situation. Through our behavior we are planting seeds in out child's mind. For you to change this situation you need to be very patient and calm. Once your behavior and your attitude will change his behavior will also change. Also when we lable our child as stubborn jiddi shy or noughty. We are feedimg their mind woth these ideas. A d they will try to be best at that. Now kids do not do all these things knowingly. They have no idea what else to do so they respond to your stimulus and behavior. Also it is very normal for parents to feel overwhelmed and frustrated and dispute k owing so many things it is difficult to respond ideally in a heated situation. I am sure this could be one of the major reason for frustration as well. What you need is a support from someone who understand you and also know how to guide you through the situation step by step so that you will lean and change the way you are responding now. Once this happens you will get back the control and things will turn into posotive direction. I would suggest you to either call me or consult someone in your city and seek help. If you work with someone on weekly basis it will help you make some changes. If you decide to enter into 3 to 4 month committed relationship, I do have some tools and techniques which you will be able to learn and apply immediately. Hope this helps wishing you very best.

Bed Wetting in Children - Homeopathic Ways To Treat It!

BHMS
Homeopath, Ludhiana
Bed Wetting in Children - Homeopathic Ways To Treat It!

Bed Wetting is a phenomenon in which a child urinates, involuntarily, on bed when fast asleep at night.

A. The Secret Problem

A child gains bladder control at night, but it varies with age. After attaining the age of five, 15% of the children continue bed wetting and after the age of 10, only 5% are found to be still bed wetting. The incidences of bed wetting in boys are twice as compared to girls. Bed wetting can often lead to extreme embarrassment and social awkwardness for the parents. For parents to deal with such inevitable child problems, they must know the causes that lead to bed wetting.

B. The Bedwetting Gene

Your own DNA may be the chief contributor to your child’s bed wetting; research states that in 75 percent of the cases, this problem is found to be hereditary. However, parents should deal with this problem with sensibility and sensitivity, so as not to alienate their children in any way.

C. Causes

  1. Delayed Bladder Maturation: In such cases, the communication between the bladder and the brain is delayed.
  2. Lower Anti-Diuretic Hormone (ADH): Inadequate secretion of such hormones causes the kidneys to produce lesser urine during the day, thus increasing chances of bed wetting at night.
  3. Deep Sleeping: With deep sleeping, the brain fails to get the signal that the bladder may be full.
  4. Constipation: With constipation, the problem is that there may be uncontrolled contraction of bladder due to the bowels being full all the time.

When is it a concern?

There is nothing wrong with bedwetting during childhood, especially when the child is less than 2 years of age. However, it might be a concern if the child happens to gain bladder control at night but the condition relapses. Also, if psychological stress happens to be at the root of the child’s bedwetting, it could be considered to be a cause for concern.

Homeopathic treatment for bedwetting in children

Homeopathy is a very effective natural treatment for enuresis. The homeopathic remedies for bedwetting are perfectly safe. These natural homeopathic remedies do not have any side effects at all. Safety of the medicines is a major issue when you are to give any medicine to your child. Therefore it is of utmost importance that the medicines should be completely safe. Homeopathic remedies are known to be perfectly safe and have been tried by millions of patients all over the world over the last 2 centuries.

5 Best Homeopathic medicines for bedwetting in children

Homeopathy has been found to be very successful in treating bedwetting. The aim of Homeopathy is to strengthen the nervous system of the body. This allows the child to gain control over the urinary bladder. The same child who had been urinating in the bed for years is able to keep the bed dry within a matter of a couple of weeks. Homeopathy offers the best way of treating bedwetting. The embarrassment of the child as well as the parents vanishes quickly like magic. Here are the 5 best homeopathic medicines for bedwetting that help in working this magic-

  1. Causticum
  2. Kreosote
  3. Cina
  4. Acid Phos
  5. Equisetum

It is important to mention here that the above mentioned 5 best homeopathic medicines for bedwetting are by no means the only medicines for bedwetting. There are many other medicines that are also used to cure enuresis. The exact selection of the right medicine depends upon the detailed symptoms of each individual patient. So, it always recommended to consult a specialized homeopath before going for any medication.

Quick tips

  1. Ensure that your child urinates right before hitting the bed.
  2. Limit your child’s fluid intake after having a thorough discussion with the doctor.
  3. Set an alarm for the child to wake up and go to the toilet in the middle of the night.
  4. Bladder stretching exercises increase the bladder’s capacity and thus the quantum of urine that can be held by the child’s bladder.
  5. Medications, as would be prescribed by a pediatrician.
  6. Use a plastic sheet over the bed.
  7. And finally, don’t panic. Usually, the problem resolves on its own.

I have an eight month old baby boy he has suddenlystopped taking bottle feed he starts crying wen I offer him bottle milk as in formula milk but he is properly taking breast milk and other food too What could be the reason behind it?

I have an eight month old baby boy he has suddenlystopped taking bottle feed he starts crying wen I offer him bottle ...
Please do not force your baby to take the bottle if he is taking breastmilk without any problems. You might want to include milk in his food preparations so you may give him milk, but if you are continuing breastfeeding, that's all he requires as far as milk is concerned. Some kids become averse to the smell of plastic, so do not worry too much for this.

How to control your aggressive children

BASM, MD, MS (Counseling & Psychotherapy), MSc - Psychology, Certificate in Clinical psychology of children and Young People, Certificate in Psychological First Aid, Certificate in Positive Psychology
Psychologist, Palakkad
There are times when even the most docile children appear to have the aggressive tendencies of a professional wrestler. While a certain amount of pushing and shoving is to be expected from all children, especially when they are very young, there are a few for whom aggression becomes a way of coping with almost any situation.

These overly aggressive children are not bullies; they often get into fights with people who are stronger than they are. They face problems not because they are aggressive, but because they become aggressive at times that are inappropriate and in ways that are self-defeating. They routinely argue with teachers and wind up in far more than their share of schoolyard scraps.

In some cases, this pattern of easily triggered aggression appears to be rooted in the children’s developing nervous systems. They appear to be physiologically unable to control their impulses as much as other children their age. For others, it is often a matter of needing to learn and practice social skills.

Aggression is one of the first responses to frustration that a baby learns. Grabbing, biting, hitting, and pushing are especially common before children develop the verbal skills that allow them to talk in a sophisticated way about what they want and how they feel.

Coping with a Very Aggressive Child

It’s difficult for adults not to attribute malicious motives to children who consistently appear to be trying to drive their parents and teachers to distraction. Often it’s equally difficult for parents not to assume that children are behaving this way because of something the parents have done wrong or have forgotten to do right. Such casting of blame, however, is not only inaccurate but usually useless as well.

The first step in helping an overly aggressive child is to look for patterns in what triggers the assaults, especially if the child is a toddler or preschooler. The aggression may happen only at home or only in public places. It may occur mostly in the afternoon or when the child is frustrated. Also, most of these children go through a predictable sequence of behaviors before they lose control. It’s a bit like watching a car going through a normal acceleration and then suddenly kicking into overdrive.

Once you can determine the most common triggers and can spot the escalating behavior, the simplest thing is to remove the child from that environment before he loses control. Take him away from the sandbox or the playgroup for a minute or two until he regains his composure. As the child develops, he will become less frustrated and, therefore, less aggressive because he has a wider variety of ways to respond to a challenging situation.

It’s also very useful to provide these aggressive and distractible children with a lot of structure and routine in their daily lives since predictability helps children remain calm and in control. Tempting as it may be at the time, spanking these children for being aggressive often does more harm than good. It is simply modeling the very thing you don’t want children to do. It teaches them that big people hit when they’re angry or upset, and that is precisely the aggressive child’s problem.

For older children and adolescents, teaching new and more appropriate ways of getting what they want can be very helpful. These children often have not learned the skills that their classmates picked up years earlier. As with bullies, formal assertiveness training can be particularly helpful to overly aggressive children since they have difficulty distinguishing between assertiveness and aggression.

It’s also useful to help these children look at life from a slightly different perspective. Psychologists have found that both aggressive children and their parents tend to focus on what’s wrong with a situation rather than what’s right with it. That makes their respective problems all the more frustrating for each of them, since neither pays any attention to the children’s improvement when it occurs.

The best way to deal with allergies is to avoid the allergens. Any episode like the present one can be dealt with cetirizine or other antiallergic drugs. Warm regards.

Encourage your wife for exclusive breast feeding till 6 months of age. Nature has provided enough milk in breast for bay. White is not residues of milk. Probably it may be fungal infection most likely due to bottle feeding, do not try to remove residues.

Hi, I have 3+ years daughter. She eat very less and weak. Also she under weight. Could you please suggest how we can improve her eating habits. Thanks.

M.D.( Pediatrics), DCH
Pediatrician,
It is more of an art rather than science. No medicines are going to help to improve appetite of active healthy child of which weight is not the only criteria. Take meals together in family along with the child. She will imitate parents. There is no instant way. Keep loving, stop forcing, she will pick up your habits.
