I am 22 years wid 80 kgs wt as I am following all diets n exercises am not reducing my weight. I had more fat deposition in arms, thighs and hip region. Can you suggest me correct diet plan to reduce my weight.

You've heard it before, and you'll hear it again. That's because drinking 64 ounces of water daily is one of the easiest ways to speed up weight loss. Your body needs water in order to efficiently metabolize stored fat. When you shortchange your supply, you're likely to slow down that process, meaning it's more difficult for you to burn calories. An easy eight glasses a day (at least!) will keep your system running smoothly.

Will vitamin D save my life? Should I really be taking four times the recommended daily dose?

M. Sc. Foods, Nutrition & Dietetics, B.Sc-Home Science
Dietitian/Nutritionist, Visakhapatnam
You have to consume the dose as per your doctors recommendations. Vitamin D deficiency can lead to softening or malformation of bone. In children, this condition is called rickets. In adults, it is called osteomalacia. Although we can find many foods in the supermarket that have been fortified with a synthetic form of vitamin D, there are only a select number of foods that naturally contain vitamin D. Best vitamin D rich foods are button mushrooms, mackerel, salmon, herring, sardines, catfish, tuna, cod liver oil, eggs, sunshine, daily exposure to sunshine can seriously increase your vitamin D intake. In fact, this vitamin has actually been referred to as the sunshine vitamin. Light hitting the skin from the sun’s rays stimulates the production of this vitamin and hormone.

Myths Related to Blood Donation

F.I.A.G.E.S , MNAMS (Membership of the National Academy) (General Surgery) , DNB (General Surgery), MBBS
General Surgeon, Delhi
Myths Related to Blood Donation

When you give some of your blood for someone else, it is called blood donation. It usually helps people who have lost quite a bit of blood in accidents or suffer from diseases, such as cancer or hemophilia, etc.

Like all activities related to medical conditions, there are myths related to blood donation too and some of them are:

1. Myth: Because you're a vegetarian, you don't have enough iron in your blood; so your blood isn't useful as donated blood.
Fact: The fact is that vegetarians can donate blood and their blood has enough iron, just as much as non vegetarians.

2. Myth: Infections, such as HIV can be contracted from donating blood.
Fact: This does not have a practical basis except for the fact that using contaminated needles might lead to contraction of the infections. However, usually fresh needles are used; therefore this never happens much.

3. Myth: Your health can deteriorate after you donate blood.
Fact: Your body produces new red blood cells as well as white blood cells after donation; hence your health doesn't deteriorate at all, except in cases where there is no rest taken at all after donation.

4. Myth: If you take medications, you cannot donate blood.
Fact: This is entirely dependent on your physician's advice. In case of some medications, you need to halt them in order to donate blood. In most cases though, taking medications does not prevent you from donating blood.

5. Myth: You will be unable to partake in physical activities after donating blood.
Fact: Heavy lifting should be avoided. Apart from this, donating blood does not stop you from physical activities. You need to rest for a while, but there is nothing about blood donation putting a check on most physical activities.

6.Myth: People with more weight have more blood to donate.
Fact: This is an entirely baseless assumption. Overweight or obese people are often unhealthy, so donating more blood has nothing to do with weight. Hence, obese people do not have more blood in their bodies as compared to their thinner counterparts.

MD - Dermatology, MBBS
Dermatologist, Mumbai
Hello, your symptoms can be due to seborrheic dermatitis which is a severe form of dandruff. Don't use Fucibet for long since it contains a steroid and can give side effects. Please use Salisia KT or Scalpe shampoo for head bath and around nose during bath thrice a week for a month and then as maintenance at least once a week for 2 months. Avoid oiling scalp as fungus thrives in oily scalp. You could oil 1 hr prior to head bath. Apply Tacrovera solution on scalp and around nose at night for a month. Please see a local dermatologist for further assessment if no satisfactory response.

Sir I have a problem I am going weak day by day so please tell me sir what can I do regain my health.

General Physician,
Hello , nothing is impossible with the right diet, exercise and attitude. Consume 300-500 calories more than usual. It may be tough to meet your calorie requirements by just eating. Drinking milk, milkshakes or protein shakes with little or no sugar can be a great way to load up on calories. Load up on protein. Work out your entire body. Focus on recovery after each workout. If you are not seeing any gains even after working so hard, work harder. Eat more, lift more and stay inspired. Believe in yourself. Start from today, best luck.

I have diabetes type 2. I have chest pain sometimes. My cardiologist says it's due to stress. He says I have anxiety as well. Earlier he had prescribed Fluanxol for me. Now he gave Rexipra Fx. But after taking it I experienced that my brain has become total calm n not alert as it used to be before. So I have stopped taking Rexipra Fx and have continued with Fluanxol. Hope this is right. Also please tell me is Fluanxol useful on stress? Thank you very much.

MBBS, Diploma in Diabetology
Endocrinologist, Mumbai
Yes fluonxol is anti anxiety drug but even it is not prefferred much for long term therapy. Rexipra is also not advisable for long term therapy. Imo you should try other stress minimizing therapies like yoga, meditation etc for long term.

Sir tell me which fruits help for weight loss and taking only fruits at night lead to weight loss or not.

Bachelor of Ayurveda, Medicine and Surgery (BAMS), MD (AM), PGDPPHC, ACLS
Alternative Medicine Specialist, Chandigarh
Fruits are high in fiber which help feel full if taken at night but also have unwanted calories if you are trying to lose weight. Still the low sugar fruits can be had in moderate amounts such as guava, apple, orange, papaya etc.
