Diabetes, often referred to by doctors as diabetes mellitus, describes a group of metabolic diseases in which the person has high blood glucose (blood sugar), either because insulin production is inadequate, or because the body's cells do not respond properly to insulin, or both. It is a difficult task to control blood sugar in the desired normal range. Whatever we eat is metabolised to sugar in the body to provide energy for our daily activities. For the absolute control, one has to monitor his / her blood sugar at regular intervals (Self-Monitoring of Blood glucose – SMBG). Though difficult, this can be done by a glucometer and keep a record. Get an idea of Fasting sugar (FBS) and 2 hours after food (PPBS), & HbA1C (inform me) and check before dinner and after every major food. The basic idea is to reduce the food intake to 1/3 of what you take now. The dictum of sugar control is diet, exercise, diet + medicine and at later stage medicine+ Insulin will be needed. There are different diet plans of varying calories for each person depending on his activity & life style. For diabetes, hypertension (high BP) and many long-term illness control there is the need for regular advice and follow up. Just one time consultation or advice is not enough to guide a diabetic in scientifically & medically correct manner. For giving you regular follow up you ask me with all details like your daily eating pattern and medicines you take. I assure you a proper guidance. If you keep in touch personally. I am a male. My age is 24 and height is 5'6" and my weight is only 46 kg. I am much underweight and thin. I have also taken several supplements to increase my weight but nothing happened. My body is not gaining fat. Please suggest me proper treatment.

Vaidya Visharad
Ayurveda, Narnaul
Dear,People who are underweight and do not have fat deposits on their body may not be getting enough calories to fuel their body. This could have a direct impact on all of their organs and may eventually lead to a variety of health problems. There are ways to get into the shape we desire and to gain weight fast. This would require understanding the reason for low weight and maintaining a diet for weight gain. In weight loss, the simple formula is to burn more calories than you consume, but to gain weight you have to also find out if there is something in your body that is preventing you from getting to the weight that you desire.

6 Things to have to lose weight Numerous people are facing a number of problems in their life if you also one of them then stop worrying about your excess weight, just start eating right. Here are six tips that you can consider to lose your weight. Have a healthy breakfast – The fundamental rule to any kind of weight loss program is having a healthy breakfast without skipping it for a single day. Oatmeal is ideal to have in breakfast, as it is a source of complex carbohydrates. It satisfies you and keeps you full longer. Oats also very helpful in keeping blood pressure and level of insulin stable. You can have this with skimmed milk or yogurt as per your choice. Select skimmed milk – Milk as well as its products are rich in calcium and keep your bones strong. Have protein and fiber rich foods – All those food that are rich in fiber and protein are very helpful in achieving the weight loss goal. Comprise the grain – Almost all grains have complex carbohydrates. Complex carbohydrates takes time in digest and release glucose very slowly. They can also help in maintaining blood sugar levels and the fiber and vitamins found in them, also play an important role in good health. Snack on nuts during the day – Nuts are good source of essential roughage, fat, protein, micronutrient and minerals. You should avoid fried and salted nuts. You should always opt for raw nuts. A handful nuts can keep your hunger at bay as well as provide energy. Drink water – Drinking water throughout the day is very important. Since, it keeps us hydrated. Every person should consume at least 8 – 10 glasses of water throughout the day. People who are habitual to drink alcohol should stop it today, if they genuinely want to lose their weight and want to live a healthy life. No doubt, eating right is the key for good healthy and ideal body weight. But, regular exercise is also equally imperative. Every that person who want to keep his or her weight under control should follow a regular exercise regime along with healthy eating.

Some things you need to follow a healthy energetic diet: No salt after 7:30No aerated drinks. Yes that includes even the diet version.Restrict mango and bananaRestrict potato and rice.No artificial juices as well.Half an hour of aerobic exercise daily. If u want to join a gym good enough. But if due to any reason maybe time or money constraint u can?t join a gym. All you need is a comfortable pairof shoes to do some aerobics, a skipping rope to do at least 500 skips (5 sets of 100 skips and increasing it as you go). 1.5 -2 kgs dumbbells for toning your upper body. Just these basic things and you are set.20 mins of breathing exercise.

Hye, thanks for the query. Your weight is a balance of calories. Fad diets may promise you that counting carbs or eating a mountain of fruits will make the fats drop. But when it comes to weight loss, it's sensible eating that counts. Weight loss comes down to burning more calories than you take in. You can do that by reducing extra calories from food and beverages, and increasing calories burned through physical activity. Understand that weight /fat loss involves sensible eating. No single food can cause weight gain or loss. You have to eat the right foods at the right time. Eat small but frequent meals. Take smaller main meals. Take a glass of lime water 10minutes before meals. Avoid long gaps in between meals. Avoid junk as far as possible. Exercise at least 4 times a week. Lastly be committed.                        Remember it's a lifestyle change and not a one time thing.     All the so called fad, crash, restricted diets will only give you muscle and bone loss. The fats will remain as it is. So, don't forget the bottom line: The key to successful weight loss is a commitment to making indefinite changes in your diet and exercise habits.

This is known as vasovagal syncope or postural hypotension. All you can do is some stretching in bed before getting out of bed. Check your haemoglobin, bp and sugar levels. I hope all will be ok. Nothing to worry if these stats are ok.

Diabetes Health Tip
Chinese foods are worst for diabetics:

High-calorie, high fat, high-sodium, and high-carb chinese food dishes can spike blood sugar dramatically and keep it high for a while. The biggest offenders include fried entrees such as orange chicken and sweet and sour dishes, which contain breading and are served swimming in a sugary sauce.

Have this instead: if you enjoy chinese food, prepare a modified recipe at home using steamed veggies and low-sodium, low-fat condiments and flavorings. Reducing sodium can help lower blood pressure and decrease the risk of heart attacks. Skip the white rice and noodles; have brown rice or wild rice instead.
