Jaw and ear pain .Pain in neck n front neck also. got checked its fine .Paramolars came in upper jaw.No straight teeth .Teeth shape going V shape mouth shape .Tell me what to do to kick my pain ?

MFDS RCPS (Glasgow), MDS - Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery, BDS
Dentist, Delhi
Hi Your pain could be from the teeth, the jaw joint, or the muscles around the joint, or a combination of the above. The teeth shape that you mention could be responsible for the pain around the jaw joint. It would be best you see an Oral Surgeon for a physical evaluation and diagnosis. You may also need treatment by an orthodontist.

These are symptoms of serious disease as may also be related to pre cancerous lesions. So visit your dentist as soon as possible as it is very difficult to diagnose such condition on the basis of few symptoms so visit a dentist for proper evaluation and treatment.

I am having pain in my teeth from past 2-3 days. Its nt constant but happens only at sometime. And a strange observation is pain is nt in all the teeth but in 2 or 3 only. please advice.

Dentist, Lucknow
Treatment dental pain teeth pain may be due to various reasons like infection, sensitivity or trauma. If your teeth is decayed it is better to get it filled or treated by a dentist. If you are opting for root canal treatment do not forget to get a crown on the effected tooth. If you want to go for only medicinal treatment so let me tell you only medicine are not going to be very effective untill you get this treated by a dentist.

If you have pain due to problem in your wisdom tooth at a time eg in the middle of night when you can't visit a dentist, for a temporary relief rinse your mouth with lukewarm water mixed with salt. And very next morning visit the dentist for permanent solution.

I am 64 yrs old 3 months ago I had blood coming out while brushing my teeth and was asked to get my teeth cleaned and prescribed qudrajel. It only gave temp relief and after a month it was re-precribed. But it has not helped and I continue to get blood while brushing. What to do?

Dentist, Bangalore
There are so many causes of bleeding gums - - brushing too hard - a vitamin deficiency - taking blood thinners or other medications - bleeding or clotting disorders - mouth sores - other medical problems, including diabetes, heart disease, leukemia or scurvy. -few advice to stop bleeding gums-- use a soft toothbrush -- and brush properly! brush your teeth for at least two minutes twice a day and after meals. Hard brushing can further damage the soft tissues of your mouth. - floss at least once a day and be sure to floss beyond the gum line to remove more plaque. - control bleeding by applying pressure to the area with a cold compress. - rinse with salt water to keep the area clean. Avoid mouthwashes that contain alcohol, which can dry out your mouth. - stay away from smoking and other tobacco products, which can aggravate bleeding gums. - eat a balanced diet and limit snacking between meals.

Hi my friend has undergone an a bsso surgery age 21 female. Which went wrong. What should she do now. Should she wait some years or take resurgery now.

MFDS RCPS (Glasgow), MDS - Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery, BDS
Dentist, Delhi
What exactly went wrong with the surgery? What needs to be done depends upon what went wrong. In any case, discuss your concerns with your surgeon and get their opinion on appropriate next steps. You may then get a second opinion from another oral & maxillofacial surgeon if you are not entirely convinced with the options so presented.

Tooth Decay - Tips To Help You Prevent It!

Tooth Decay - Tips To Help You Prevent It!

Your teeth are the most underappreciated part of your body. If you don’t give them proper care, there is a very good chance that you will develop severe dental problems, the most common being tooth decay. Tooth decay is caused when the bacteria that are present in your mouth churn out more acid than is necessary, gradually eroding the teeth. The acids bore a hole in the tooth, causing cavity.

You might be suffering from tooth decay if you experience:

  1. Teeth discoloration
  2. Cavities
  3. Pain
  4. Tooth infection
  5. Tooth loss

Causes of tooth decay

Tooth decay occurs when the bacteria that reside in your mouth start producing excessive acids which eventually erode the tooth.

How does it happen?

Your teeth have three protective layers: an outer layer called enamel, middle layer called dentin and an inner layer called pulp. The bacteria in the mouth along with acid and broken down food particles attack the tooth and erode it layer by layer. Tooth decay worsens as each layer is eroded.

Here are some common causes behind tooth decay:

  1. Poor oral hygiene i.e. not brushing or flossing your teeth regularly
  2. Eating foods that help bacteria grow, such as sugary foods and foods rich in carbohydrates
  3. Dry mouth refers to very little saliva in your mouth. Saliva helps countering the effects of the acids
  4. Smoking
  5. Diabetes

How to prevent tooth decay

Most cases of tooth decay can be prevented by a healthy oral hygiene regime and having a balanced diet. Here are some steps you can take to prevent tooth decay:

  1. Regularly brush your teeth. Brush your teeth after each meal and especially before you go to sleep. Using a fluoride-rich toothpaste will help keep tooth decay at bay.
  2. The space between your teeth is where food particles get lodged. Keep them clean by flossing regularly.
  3. Make balanced diet a part of your life. Avoid food high on sugar or carbohydrates. Also, avoid eating too much sticky food, as it is more likely to cling to your teeth than anything else.
  4. Mouthwash regularly using a solution rich in fluoride. Fluoride has antiseptic properties that help kill the bacteria,
  5. Lastly, visit your dentist regularly for checkups

Tooth decay is one of the most common lifestyle-based problems. The right combination of dental hygiene and a balanced diet goes a long way in preventing it. If you wish to discuss about any specific problem, you can consult a dentist.
