I have pain in my teeth for last 15 days I went to a dentist he fill temporarily cavity and gave me some antibiotices and pain killer but pain is constant he adviced me to x-ray lam very tenced because I take gutkha please tell me I have any serious problem?

BDS (GOLD MEDALIST)
Dentist, Jamshedpur
Hi the doctor may have applied a material over exposed portion of cavith for the formation of secondary dentine. It takes some time. If new dentine will be formed he will fill the cavity permanently. If not then rct will be the option. X-ray is helpful to know about the condition. Quit the habit of gutka as it causes lots of serious conditions like cancer, submucous fibrosis and leukoplakia. For temporary relief from pain you can take ketorol dt 2 tabs dissolved in half cup of water or ibuprofen after meal.

Hello sir, I have a pain in my tmj joint of Jaw in right hand side. Having swelling in skin around that joint also have clicking sound while moving jaw here & there. What to do.

Bachelor of Dental Surgery, Master of Dental Surgery
Dentist, Chennai
Tmj pain what is the history? Any trauma or Injury to the joint either or due to functional or any other has to be ruled out. You must take a CT scan preferably in mouth open and closed positions. Temporarily you may take a NSAID pain killer and it will relieve your inflammation too. A topical fomentation can be tried. Have soft diet. Use the other side for chewing. Support the lower jaw with your hand under when yawning. See an expert Oral Medicine specialist and take the proper treatment after the diagnosis is established.

Consumption of hard and crunchy food items should be avoided when one is undergoing orthodontic treatment.

I am male 31yrs. I have bleeding gums and they frequently bleed. One time I had fever and was given antibiotics. Surprisingly my bleeding stopped during that time. But now it has started again. Can you please suggest me any antibiotic toothpaste or mouthwash which can be purchased in INDIA. Betadine doesn't solve the issue. Thanks.

I am having a very serious pain and sensitivity in my teeth i cant eat or drink cold things what can I do?

BDS
Dentist, Kolar
Sensitivity can be either due to loss of enamel layer or due to decay in teeth. Get your teeth evaluated by dentist to one the cause of sensitivity n get treated accordingly. Meanwhile use a desensitizing toothpaste such as senquelf or sensodyne toothpaste to reduce sensitivity. Rub some of it onto your tooth surface n wait for 5 mins before rinsing.

Commonest misconception about dental extraction:- Getting your teeth removed, worsens your eyesight. Fact - There is no co-relation between dental extraction and eyesight. Just think once, if this misconception was correct, then all the people who underwent dental extraction would have turned blind and all the people who wear spectacles, would have undergone dental extraction. Both the things are totally untrue. So please spread the word to your friends and remove this misconception from our society.

I am not doing brushing of my teeth from last year because I get vomits while doing it. Please help me out to start again brushing.

MDS - Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery
Dentist, Chennai
The vomit sensation you are talking about is known as gag reflex. It is a protective mechanism of the human body to avoid the entrance of any unwanted material down the throat. In your case, you are experiencing the reflex while brushing, that means your brushing pattern might be wrong. You are taking your brush to much deeper areas than required. Also, you might not be cleaning your tongue properly. Visit your dentist and ask him about some correct brushing patterns and start using a tongue cleaner. Whenever you experience gag try to focus on some other activity or object, such as your big toe. It diverts you and thus the gag stops. Avoid mouth breathing, that increases the gag. If the problem persists even after changing your brushing/cleaning pattern and avoiding mouth breathing there is more to it. Pay a visit to both your dentist and gasteroenterologist.

We need more investigations with clinical examination to decide upon treatment. You may need deep cleaning along with surgical curettage or gum strengthening procedure. Rinse your mouth thoroughly with a mouth wash after every meals. Use pepsodent tooth paste & gum paint for 2 to 3 weeks.

Healthy Mouth Happy you- Brushing and Flossing the Right Way

Healthy Mouth Happy you- Brushing and Flossing the Right Way
Right Way to Brush-

Proper brushing takes at least two minutes — that's right, 120 seconds! Most adults do not come close to brushing that long. To get a feel for the time involved, try using a stopwatch. To properly brush your teeth, use short, gentle strokes, paying extra attention to the gumline, hard-to-reach back teeth and areas around fillings, crowns or other restoration. Concentrate on thoroughly cleaning each section as follows:

B1 Tilt the brush at a 45° angle against the gumline and sweep or roll the brush away from the gumline

B2Gently brush the outside, inside and chewing surface of each tooth using short back-and-forth strokes.

B3Gently brush your tongue to remove bacteria and freshen breath.

Clean the outer surfaces of your upper teeth, then your lower teeth
Clean the inner surfaces of your upper teeth, then your lower teeth
Clean the chewing surfaces
For fresher breath, be sure to brush your tongue, too
Frequency of brushing-

Studies have shown that brushing once a day in preschool settings, using a fluoride toothpaste will prevent cavities. Families should be encouraged to brush additional times at

home. Brushing before bedtime is especially important, in order to prevent plaque and food particles remaining in contact with the teeth throughout the night.

Replacing Toothbrush-

You should replace your toothbrush when it begins to show wear, or every three months, whichever comes first. It is also very important to change toothbrushes after you've had a cold, since the bristles can collect germs that can lead to reinfection.

Electric power brush-

PBRAn electric toothbrush is a toothbrush that uses electric power supplied usually by a battery to move the brush head rapidly, either oscillating side to side, or rotation-oscillation (where brush heads rotate in one direction and then the other).

ADVANTAGES OF AN ELECTRIC POWER BRUSH
1.Faster Brushing
2.Easier Brushing
3.Deep Cleaning
4.Painless Cleaning
5.Stain Removal
6.Fresher Breath
7.Proven Long-Term Results

FLOSSING

Flossing in addition to toothbrushing can reduce gingivitis and halitosis compared to toothbrushing alone.

FLOSDental floss is a bundle of thin filaments used to remove food and dental plaque from teeth. The floss is gently inserted between the teeth and scraped along the teeth sides, especially close to the gums or underneath them. Dental floss may be made of either plastic (nylon, PTFE or polyethylene) or silk, and can be flavored or unflavored, and waxed or unwaxed. An alternative tool to achieve the same effect is the interdental brush.

Advantages of flossing
ØProper flossing removes plaque and food particles in places where a toothbrush cannot reach- under the gum-line and between the teeth.
ØDaily flossing is recommended because plaque build-up can lead to tooth decay and gum disease.
ØIt stimulates gums, polishes tooth surfaces, reduces gum bleeding and prevents gum disease.

FLOSSINGFlossing technique
Start with about 18 inches of floss, wind most of the floss around each middle finger, leaving an inch or two of floss to work with.

ØHold the floss tautly between your thumbs and index fingers, slide it gently up-and- down between your teeth.
ØGently curve the floss around the base of each tooth using a seesaw motion, making sure you go beneath the gum-line. Never snap or force the floss, as this may cut or bruise delicate gum tissue.
ØCurve the floss around the side of one tooth, forming a 'C' shape and rub the floss up and down to clean the tooth. Repeat the procedure in the opposite direction i.e. on the adjacent tooth.
ØUse clean sections of floss as you move from tooth to tooth.
ØTo remove the floss, use the same back-and-forth motion to bring the floss up and away from the teeth.
Floss holders are also available and can be used in the difficult to reach areas.

MOUTHWASH

MWMouthwash or mouth rinse is a chemotherapeutic agent used as an effective home care system by the patient to enhance oral hygiene.

A mouthwash is a flavored liquid that people use to rinse out their mouths before or after brushing their teeth. Some individuals may also rinse with mouthwash between brushings, particularly after eating foods that may cause a person to have bad breath. Mouthwash typically emphasize the treatment and prevention of halitosis as one of the many benefits of mouthwash. Mouthwash can be effective at combating bad breath.

ØBacteria in the mouth can also cause foul-smelling breath. Many antiseptic mouthwash products claim to kill the germs that cause bad breath.
ØSome mouthwash products are designed to help heal sores or irritation after oral surgery.
