कटहल आकार में सबसे बड़ा फल माना जाता है. कच्चे कटहल से अचार या सब्जी बनाया जाता है. वहीँ पकने पर इसमें से निकलने वाले कोवा को लोग इसे चाव से खाते हैं क्योंकि ये स्वाद में मीठा होता है. इसके बीज बड़े पैमाने पर स्टार्च और प्रोटीन से बने होते हैं. यह फल एशियाई देशों में लोकप्रिय है और ज्यादातर गर्मियों के दौरान होता है. फल के बाहरी सतह पर छोटे-छोटे काँटे होते हैं हलांकि ये कम चुभने वाले होते हैं. पके हुए कटहल के बीजों को भी खाया जाता है. इसमें विटामिन ए, सी और बी 6, कैल्शियम, पोटेशियम, लोहा, फोलिक एसिड, थायामिन, रिबोफ़्लविन, नियासिन और मैग्नीशियम जैसे कई महत्वपूर्ण पोषक तत्व पाए जाते हैं. इसके अलावा ये आहार फाइबर में भी समृद्ध है और इसमें कैल्विन, एक्सथिन, ल्यूतिन और क्रिप्टोक्सैथिन जैसे फ्लवोनॉइड पिगमेंट्स की एक महत्वपूर्ण मात्रा है. आइए इसके फायदे और नुकसान को विस्तार से जानें.

1. दृष्टि में सुधार
कटहल में मौजूद विटामिन ए आंखों के लिए एक जरुरी पोषक तत्व है. यह सुधार करके मोतियाबिंद, रतौंधी, धब्बेदार अध: पतन आदि को रोकने में मदद करता है. विटामिन ए श्लेष्म झिल्ली को भी मजबूत करने में मदद करता है. कटहल में विटामिन सी स्वस्थ केशिका को बढ़ावा देता है और रेटिना कोशिकाओं के उचित कार्य को बनाए रखने में मदद करता है. इसमें ल्यूटिन और ज़ेक्सैथीन भी शामिल हैं जो आंखों के लिए अच्छे हैं.
2. ब्लड प्रेशर को नियंत्रित

  • जो लोग वात की समस्या से पीड़ित है उनको इसके सेवन से बचना चाहिए.

माजूफल का वैज्ञानिक नाम क्वेरकस इंफेक्टोरिया है. इसे हिंदी में माजूफल, तमिल में मस्काई और मलेशिया में मंजाकनी के नाम से जाना जाता है. यह लोकप्रिय जड़ी-बूटियों में से एक है. इसका नाम माजूफल इसपर हमला करने वाले कीटों के हमला करने पर बनने वाले माजूफल के आधार पर कहा गया. दरअसल माजूफल फल न होकर कीट का घर होता है. माजूफल देखने में गोल और कठोर होते हैं. इसके कारण पत्तियों को कीड़ों के चारों ओर गोल कणों का निर्माण होता है. इसे ओट पित्त कहा जाता है. आइए इसके फायदे और नुकसान को समझते हैं.

1. मधुमेह के उपचार में
माजूफल में गैलिक एसिड पाया जाता है. जो अस्थमा और शुगर को रोकने में मदद करता है. आप मंजाकनी चाय बना कर भी पी सकते हैं. शुगर के मरीज इसके सेवन से अपनी परेशानी कम कर सकते हैं.
2. योनि की कसावट में
प्रसव के पश्चात चाहें तो महिलाएं योनी तो टाईट करने के लिए माजूफल का सहारा ले सकती हैं. इसके लिए एक पैन में एक लीटर पानी को उबालकर उसमें दो किलो माजूफल को पीस कर डालें. रंग न बदलने तक इसे उबालें. इसके बाद इसको ठंडा होने पर छान कर इससे योनि को धोएं.इससे लाभ मिलेगा.
3. घावों के उपचार में
इसका इस्तेमाल घावों के उपचार में भी किया जाता है. इसके लिए इसे पानी में उबालकर, घावों और खरोंच को धोने के लिए इस्तेमालकरें. इससे घाव जल्दी भरते हैं. इसके लिए ये साबुन से अच्छा विकल्प है. बेहतर परिणाम के लिए सुबह शाम धोएं.
4. आँखों के लिए
माजूफल में मौजूद एस्ट्रिंजेंट आँखों की रौशनी बढ़ाने में मददगार होता है. आँखों में ऊतकों को सिकुड़ने वाले गुणों होने के कारण इससे दृष्टि में सुधार होता है.
5. माउथ अल्सर के लिए
अपने कैसैलेपन के कारण, मुंह के अल्सर को बहुत जल्दी से ठीक करता है. जिन लोगों को छोटे अल्सर होते हैं वो उनके मुंह के दोनों ओर होते हैं. इसका पेस्ट बनाकर मुँह के प्रभावित क्षेत्रों में लगाएं. राहत पाने के लिए लगातार कुछ दिनों तक इस पेस्ट को लगाने का प्रयास करें.
6. बच्चों के लिए
माजूफल का उपयोग बच्चों के इलाज के लिए भी किया जाता है. आप सप्ताह में एक बार, हरीतकी और जायफल के साथ चंदन के पत्थर पर ओक को रगड़ते हैं. इससे प्राप्त पेस्ट को बच्चों को खिलाने के लिए जलाया जाता है. यह उन्हें बीमार पड़ने से बचाता है और बच्चों को स्वस्थ रखता है.
7. माउथ वाश के लिए
माउथ वाश, मुंह में अल्सर का प्रभावी ढंग से इलाज करने में मदद करता है. माउथ वाश बनाने के लिए, एक चम्मच के आसपास माजूफल पाउडर लें और थोड़े पानी के साथ उबाल लें. पानी को गुनगुने तापमान पर आने के बाद इसे माउथ वाश के के रूप में इस्तेमाल करें. यह माउथ वाश मुंह की गंध, मुंह के अल्सर का बहुत अच्छे ढंग से इलाज करता है.
8. कैंसर से बचाव में
माजूफल में पाए जाने वाले समृद्ध एंटीऑक्सीडेंट, सर्वाइकल कैंसर और ब्रेस्ट कैंसर (स्तन कैंसर) को रोक सकते हैं. कैंसर पीड़ित नियमित रूप से इसका इस्तेमाल करें तो कैंसर से बच सकते हैं.
9. मंजाकनी का उपयोग रखें त्वचा को बेहतर
इसमें मौजूद एस्ट्रिंजेंट त्वचा को चिकना और मुँहासे से बचाने में मदद करता है. एस्ट्रिंजेंट में समृद्ध होने के कारण ये त्वचा से अतिरिक्त तेल को निकालता है. यह चेहरे के बड़े रोम छिद्र को कम कर सकता है. इसके लिए त्वचा पर 5 मिनट के लिए मंजाकनी पेस्ट लगाएं और उसके बाद धो लें. यह त्वचा की कसावट के लिए एक बहुत ही अच्छी जड़ी बूटी है.

माजूफल के नुकसान

  • अगर कोई साइड इफेक्ट है तो इसका इस्तेमाल करना बंद कर दें.
  • आपको इसे छोटे खुराक पर लेना शुरू करना चाहिए, उसके बाद आप इसकी खुराक को बढ़ा सकते हैं.
  • गर्भावस्था के दौरान इसका उपयोग न करें क्योंकि इससे गर्भपात हो सकता है.

Psoriasis is a non-contagious common skin condition that causes rapid skin cell reproduction resulting in red, dry patches of thickened skin. The dry flakes and skin scales are thought to result from the rapid buildup of skin cells. Psoriasis commonly affects the skin of the elbows, knees, and scalp.

Causes

Psoriasis can be caused by a variety of reasons. Heredity can be crucial. If one parent is affected, then there is 15% of chances for the child to suffer from psoriasis. If both the parents are affected then the possibility of child getting the psoriasis is 60%. Consumption of opposite foods (such as fish and milk together), trauma on skin like cuts, bruises or burns, some medicines or skin irritants, excessive smoking, alcohol consumption and mental stress or psychological trauma can also be responsible for causing it.

Symptoms

  • Loose silvery scales

  • Itching or burning skin

  • Raised pus-filled skin bumps

  • Skin redness around pustules

  • Restricted joint motion

  • Emotional distress

  • Skin pain and inflammation

Ayurvedic Psoriasis Treatment

According to Ayurveda, Psoriasis appears due to imbalance of two doshas - Vata and Kapha . Vata and Kapha doshas manifest in the skin and cause accumulation of toxins. These toxins accumulate in deep tissues like rasa (nutrient plasma), rakta (blood), mansa (muscles), and lasika (lymphatic). These toxins cause contamination of deeper tissues, leading to Psoriasis.

Purification of blood and tissues is the primary aim of Ayurvedic treatment in cases of Psoriasis. Toxins are cleansed from the body and the digestion restored to prevent further accumulation. Nourishing herbs are then administered to strengthen and tone the tissues to promote complete healing of the skin.

Diet & Lifestyle Advice

  • Avoid consuming opposite foods.

  • Do not control natural urges like vomiting, urination, bowels, etc.

  • Do not take cold water bath immediately after a heavy workout, traveling, a long walk, etc.

  • Take care not to consume foods which cause indigestion.

  • Absolutely do not eat too much of salty, sour or acidic foods.

  • Avoid sleeping in afternoons.

  • Say no to radish, sesame, jaggery (gur), curds, fish and other sour foods.

Home Remedies

  • Cover the affected part with a fresh thin banana leaf.

  • Take 15-20 sesame seeds and soak in a glass of water. Keep it overnight and drink on an empty stomach early in the morning.

  • Take 1-2 cup of bitter gourd juice on empty stomach in the morning. Continue this for 5-6 months. Patient may add a tablespoon of lime juice, if they find it difficult to digest the bitter taste.

ANGINA PECTORIS [ANGINA] 

Pain in the region of heart on exertion is known as angina pectoris. 

CAUSES: 

• Inadequate supply of blood and oxygen to the heart is the main reason. 
• Atherosclerosis of the coronary artery. 
• Arteriosclerosis. 
• Increased triglycerides and cholesterol. 
• Sedentary life. 
• Obesity. 
• Lack of exercise. 
• Sudden emotional upsets. 
• Chronic consumption of alcohol. 
• Chronic smoking. 
• Drug abuse like – cocaine etc. 
• Hypertension. 
• Diabetes mellitus. 
• Family history. 

 
SIGN AND SYMPTOMS: 

• Pain in chest – crushing, constricting, sharp, burning pain with feeling of strangling and suffocating, 
• Pain may radiate to both arms or mostly along the left arm to the little finger and the jaw, teeth, neck throat, epigastric region and between the shoulder blades. 
• Pain is precipitated from exertion or on physical activity and subsides on rest. 
• Pains last for few seconds to few minutes. 
• May be associated with – short breath, anxiety, palpitation and nausea. 

 
DIETARY MANAGEMENT: 

Cut down salt (common table salt) intake in your diet to avoid hypertension. Intake should not exceed more then 2 to 2.5 gm a day. 
Avoid foods rich in cholesterol: ground nut oil, ghee, butter, whole milk, eggs, lard (fats derived from pig meat), tallow (fats derived from goat or sheep mutton), oily fish, meats and red meat – all non-vegetarian food contain cholesterol in varied amount. 
Avoid non-vegetarian food especially red meat. 
• Increase intake of foods that contain PUFA's (poly unsaturated fatty acids) flax / linseed oil is the richest source of PUFA's. Other oils that contain PUFA's are sesame oil, mustard oil and olive oil. As all oils are high in fats, its consumption should be limited. The intake of oils should not exceed 20gms a day. 
• Sesame oil and almond oil hinders the absorption of LDL (low-density lipoproteins), so it is advisable to use replace other cooking oils by sesame oil. 
Increase your intake of water
Consume whole grain cereals and whole pulses
Take high fiber diet - whole grains, bran, oat, green leafy vegetables, peas, beans, potatoes, raw vegetables, salads, dried fruits and fresh fruits. 
Eat fruits and vegetables with the skin. 
Cut down the intake of sugar and other sweeteners. 
Replace whole milk with semi-skimmed or skimmed milk
Avoid fat-rich portions of flesh foods. Instead have lean meat. 
• Avoid fat-rich desserts and fried snacks like cakes, pastries, puddings etc 
Instead of frying food boil, steam, grill or roast food. 
Avoid coffee and caffeinated drinks, junk food – pizza, burgers etc. 
• Consume food rich in magnesium 
Nuts and sea food, green leafy vegetables, sea plants like Japanese sea plants, whole grains, Peas, lotus stem, pulses, legumes and oil seeds 
Increase intake of vitamin C, it maintains the elasticity and integrity of the artery walls. 
– Citrus fruits, green leafy vegetables. 
– Eat vegetables- cabbage, broccoli, tubers- potatoes and sweet potatoes.
 
Reduce calcium intake (reduce but do not completely avoid calcium as it is needed for maintenance of our body):- 
– milk and sea food, nuts, green leafy vegetables, whole grains, peas, lotus stem, pulses, legumes and oil seeds 
– Should avoid custard apple and banana as they are high in calcium. 

 
NOTE: 

Reduce weight if obese. 
Stop smoking and alcohol consumption. 
Exercise regularly. 
• Take brisk walks for 40 minutes daily morning. 
Practicing yoga and breathing exercises plays a very important role in lowering the cholesterol levels. 
• Do some relaxation techniques like yoga, meditation etc to relieve the stress Change your lifestyle to reduce stress-physical or mental.

5 Things You Must Know When Living With A Heart Patient!

When there is a person with the chronic condition, it is not just that person who is affected, but the near and dear ones as well. When heading out for a dinner or when planning a gathering, there would be certain things that need to be accounted for and considered to accommodate the needs of the affected person. These very soon become a way of life and can be done effortlessly.

The following are some things to bear in mind when living with a heart patient.

  1. Diet: Heart patients would have some dietary preferences based on the heart condition per se. This may include a need for more whole grains and vegetables, need for specific types of oils, specific cooking methods, etc. At home, it is essential to ensure these things are always stocked up. When heading out, whether it is to visit someone or out for a meal, take into account whether these would be available. The next best option should be kept in mind so that dietary intake is not affected. Gradually, with time, substitutes can be identified with which they could manage in most places.
  2. Medications: Make sure the medication kit is always readily available. Make sure the person does not miss any medications, whether at home or outside. Ensure the regular medicines are in stock and some common emergency ones are also readily available.
  3. Routine: Whether it is their morning walk or yoga or meditation, it is better to stick to the routine as much as possible. The person also should learn to adapt based on circumstances; however, to the maximum extent possible, these should be continued without major interruption.
  4. Monitoring: Be it blood pressure, sugar levels or weight, these need to be monitored regularly and any deviations should be brought to the notice of the doctor immediately.
  5. Other equipment: Whether it is a walker, inhaler, or a wheelchair, these should be functional and available. The home or the living place should not be cluttered to allow for the easy use of this equipment.

While these may initially require some effort, with time, it would just happen naturally.

Hi. U can easily reduce weight by following a good and healthy diet which includes small but frequent meals i.e. Rather than having 3 large meals in a day have 5-6 small meals. There should be one protein source with each main meal, such as milk and milk products, pulses, nuts, eggs, etc in breakfast, lunch and dinner. Eat fruits and vegetables in ample amount, this will add on the fiber in your diet. Avoid sugar and use oil sparingly. Above all just spare 15 mins to walk. Dear user you have to follow a diet that is rich in nutrients. As winters have come take dry fruits well and drink milk twice a day. Also you have to take high carbs and protein also you can consume milk in form of shakes and can even have eggs in breakfast.

Dear user if you are planning to join gym you will be guided by your gym trainer regarding your supplements and all but as far as your diet is concerned you have to take specifically protein rich diet and you are not supposed to miss any of your meal. You can take sprouts, paneer, eggs if nonveg, banana,dry fruits etc.

I am 62 year old man in general good health, recently I had stayed awake whole night witnessing a temple festival programme, where a lot of dust was generated due to large crowd as well as getting wet in the heavy downpour towards early morning. The very next day I had felt throat irritation followed by running nose and a little chill now and then. I aggravated this by taking brandy with hot water thinking it will cure my cold. Dear user you can chew Ginger to relax your cough problem. Make sure that everytym you are drinking water its warm and avoid exposure to dust for some days you can wear a mask to cover your mouth and nose. Also avoid citric things for some days. And the best thing you can do is drink 1 tbsp of turmeric in lukewarm milk before going to bed for three days continuously. Hope you get well soon .tc.
