I usually get pimple when there is excess of sugar in forms of sweets and chocolate. what to do?

BHMS
Homeopath, Faridabad
Hi. There are four main factors which causes acne: Oil production Dead skin cells Clogged pores Bacteria Factors that may worsen the acne: Androgen hormones, certain medications (drugs containing corticosteroids, androgens or lithium can worsen acne), dietary factors, including dairy products and carbohydrate-rich foods — such as bread, bagels and chips — may trigger acne and Stress can make acne worse. Management: Wash your face with Bakson's Facewash (wash your face with warm water only) and followed by CTMP, i.e., cleansing, toning, moisturising and protection (apply liberally Sunscreen Gel with SPF-30) after washing your face daily. Home-made remedies: - Take 1 tbsp of fuller's earth (multani mitti) + a dash of lime + bit of rosewater – apply this on your face till it gets dried up, then rinse it off. - Take 1 tsp of Alum (or fitkari), make it slightly wet with water and apply this on your wet face, spread it well; let it dry and rinse it off. Alum remove your excessive moisture or oil and it also tightens the skin's tonicity. Medication: You can take homoeopathic medicines – Berberis Aquefolium Q/ 10 drops in 1/2 cup of water/ thrice a day (and for local application as well) and Kali Brom. 200/ thrice a day – for 20 days.

I am 57 years old, male asthmatic and diabetic. Two months back I had an acute excaberation of bronchial asthma, which was treated by antibiotics, bronchodilators, oral steroids and inhalers ie Asthalin and Budecort. I am free from all symptoms, but I am still on inhalers, especially Budecort inhaler. Should I continue using budecort inhaler, as I sometimes feel breathless especially while lying down or during strenuous activities? Is it safe? Also, I wish to inform you that I was a heavy smoker, say 20 years back. Now I have stopped, since 5 years, and the attacks are less frequent. Now, if I feel like having a smoke, I have only one per day. I am trying my best, even to stop it. I gave up the habit by sheer will power and also due to the fact that I am asthmatic. Should I continue using inhalers, especially Budecort inhaler and if so, is it safe, considering the fact that it is a corticosteroid? Please advice.

DNB(Respiratory Diseases), MBBS
Pulmonologist, Jabalpur
Yes. Inhaled corticosteroids have minimal effect on blood sugar levels, although theoretically that's possible. But using inhalers will keep your lung problem in control and further exacerbation may be prevented. If you were a confirmed asthmatic and continue to smoke, then your disease may change to copd, where the broncho-constriction is irreversible and the risk of exacerbation increases, so quitting is the best way for future.

My allergy test IgE is reported 1431 while normal should be less than 250. I do not have complaint at present, but in extreme dusty climate, I am disturbed. Doctor advised to go through immunotherapy vaccine course of delhi pharma co. I do not have any food allergy/reaction. Should I go for the treatment?

MD (Physician), MD (Pulmonology)
Pulmonologist, Bareilly
As evident from your Allergy IgE test report you are allergic. The severity of disease will vary upon exposure time and Severity of allergen. Immunotherapy gives good results in such cases.

It is nothing to do with asthma. May be sudden fall of bp due to sudden standing after a long sitting. Do leg exercise before standing and just after standing. Drink lot of water.

Is an air purifier good to purchase considering I suffer from allergic rhinitis, allergy to cold and dust and I have breathing difficulty. Are air purifiers safe to use daily?

Yes, provided you purchase a good purifier. Particulate suspended impurity is reaching alarming levels, especially in the metro cities, affecting one and all more so to those suffering from allergies and its effects.
