I had my first gout attack in 2013, when I was on a Telma-H drug for hypertension. Following dietary discretion the problem remain well controlled and I gradually lost some weight as well. 3-4 years after retirement, the weight gradually returned, and so did the gout problem. Fortunately I never had a full-blown attack ever again, but had a few flare-ups in spite of the fact that I have been on Xyloric 100 mg OD. I also take drugs for hypertension & DM, and both are well-controlled and routinely home-monitored. I am currently having a gout flare-up. Last year in March I was hospitalized for pneumonia, and amongst other drugs they gave me Medrol 8 mg BD. It was taken for 5 days in the hospital & for 5 days at home, and then tapered off over a 7-10 period. Following THIS corticosteroid treatment I remained absolutely gout-free for a period of about 9 months. So much so that while taking good care of diet & hydration I could even give up Xyloric during THIS period. As I'm currently having a flare-up (I know I won't restart Xyloric during the flare-up) I would like to know if I can get a corticosteroid shot in my affected toe rather than having to take NSAIDs for any length of time. And, if a good doctor isn't available around for a toe-injection, can I use Medrol again. If yes, in what dosage, and for how long? My SUA was 6.2 In September, 2016. It is yet to be tested again. Thank you.

Eat Healthy Foods to Reduce Pain
The disorder mainly involves pain in the joints and the two main types of arthritis are rheumatoid arthritis and osteo arthritis. The joints are affected in different ways and it is very important to reduce the pain and have a healthy and nutritious diet. The stress on the joints can be alleviated by exercising regularly and losing weight. It is important that anti-inflammatory foods are included in the diet as these help fight the condition. The foods that are beneficial and help to fight arthritis include Omega-3 fatty acids, walnuts, oranges, sweet peppers, broccoli, carrots, whole wheat pasta, cherry tomatoes, spinach, grapefruit, and blueberries. Apricots, apples, turkey and sweet potato can also be eaten. Foods that are low in fat and free from trans-fat must be chosen.
Foods to Avoid
The arthritis joints are irritated by inflammation and it causes swelling of the tissues. Foods that trigger inflammation should be avoided and these include dairy products, refined carbs, processed meats, simple carbs, saturated fat, white rice, pastries and pasta. Products with sugar and unhealthy fats must be avoided. It is also equally important to exercise regularly to avoid pain in the joints.
It is possible to manage arthritis by regular physical activity and balancing the activity with proper rest.
