Dear doctor My sister is 43 years old no history of thyroid, blood sugar,or uric acid. But she is experiencing lot of pain in one of the heels and that is when she she gets up after sitting for sometime that she cannot place her foot in the ground. After walking for sometime it becomes little less. Tried homeopathic medicine but no relief. please help her she is Savi. Sondhi. Thank you.

Physiotherapist, Bangalore
Use a heel silicone cushion in good shoes for support. Don't walk bare foots and on hard surface don't wear heels. Do foot stretching and strengthening exercises. U can use a bottle and roll it below your heel. Stretch the foot with towel or big cloth.

Core strengthening exercise- straight leg raised with toes turned outward, repeat 10 times, twice a day. Hams stretching- lie straight, take the leg up, pull the feet towards yourself, with a elastic tube or normal belt. Repeat 10 times, twice a day. Quadriceps exercises- lie straight, make a towel role and put it under the knee, press the keen against the role, hold it for 20 secs. Repeat 20 times twice a day. This will help relieve some pain.

I have a upper back pain. I feel it only when I wake up in the morning. I don't feel the pain in daytime. The pain subsides once I move out of bed and get active (in the next 30 min to 1 hr). I wake up very tired.

Ask your friend to take essential rest for better healing of his condition. Avoid overusing knee, stop climbing stairs, sports activities etc in case it is aggravating his knee pain. Ice will reduce pain and swelling. Apply ice or cold packs immediately to prevent or minimize swelling. Apply the ice or cold pack for 10 to 20 minutes, 3 or more times a day. Elevate the injured or sore area on pillows while applying ice and anytime you are sitting or lying down. Try to keep the area at or above the level of your heart to help minimize swelling. Compression, or wrapping the injured or sore area with an elastic bandage, will help decrease swelling. Don't wrap it too tightly, since this can cause more swelling below the affected area. Loosen the bandage if it gets too tight. It’s important to find the cause behind the pain and swelling. Please consult a Physiotherapist.

Dear Mr. Lybrate-user, apply olive oil twice daily on your lips, it will help. For knee pain, take methi dana powder 1/2 teaspoonful once daily after food with lukewarm milk.
