Hello, my daughter is 5+ n she is having fever n boils r coming all over her body. I think she is going through chickepox. Please suggest me. To get rid of this.

MD - Paediatrics
Pediatrician, Ranchi
In chickenpox the erythematous rashes starts from the trunk. Initially the rashes are red then it becomes vesicular (dew drop) following which scabs form. It usually takes 7-10 days for the rashes to heal completely. There is no specific treatment. Apply some calamine lotion to soothen the skin and take oral anti allergic like cetrizine. Antibiotic may be needed if there is any chance of secondary infection. There may be other causes of rashes with fever. Please attach the picture so that I better able to help you out. Regards.

I would suggest that you continue feeding her at night and whenever she wants. She would stop feeding on your breast on her own as she grows up. Breastfeeding at night is very reassuring to babies that their mother is closeby and that they have her complete attention.

Please send the reports to me so as to understand all details. Hyperammonemia is a metabolic condition characterized by elevated levels of ammonia in the blood. Increased entry of ammonia to the brain is a primary cause of neurologic disorders, such as congenital deficiencies of urea cycle enzymes, hepatic encephalopathies, reye syndrome, several other metabolic disorders, and some toxic encephalopathies.

This could have a direct impact on all of their organs and may eventually lead to a variety of health problems. There are ways to get into the shape we desire and to gain weight fast. This would require understanding the reason for low weight and maintaining a diet for weight gain. In weight loss, the simple formula is to burn more calories than you consume, but to gain weight you have to also find out if there is something in your body that is preventing you from getting to the weight that you desire. You can make some very simple, high-calorie and well-balanced meals by combining whole grain bread with protein sources such as eggs, meat and cheese. Try combining some dried fruit with a protein source, such as cuts of meat or a whey protein shake. They also mix really well with nuts and natural yogurt, providing a blend of healthy fats, protein and other key nutrients. Try adding avocados, which are loaded with healthy fats to your main meals and other dishes such as omelets or sandwiches. Cheese is a very good source of protein and is also rich in healthy fats. Add it to meals if you need a calorie and flavor boost. Eggs are one of the best foods for building muscle. There’s no limit to the number you should eat in a day, and they’re full of nutrients. Full-fat yogurt is another healthy and convenient snack. Not only do potatoes and other starches add carbs and calories to help you gain weight — they also increase your muscle glycogen stores. Nuts and nut butters are a perfect choice if you’re looking to gain weight. Drinking milk is a great way to add protein to your diet. It contains both casein and whey proteins. Drinking homemade protein smoothies can be a highly nutritious and quick way to gain weight.

My son faces some learning difficulties, lack of concentration & minute dyslexia as per our observation since last 2-3 yrs. He is 6 yrs old & will be going to class 1 in dwarka, Delhi, Need guidance & suggestions for ensuring that my son get over this issue as earliest as possible.

Masters in counseling psychology, Counseling psychologist, Rational Emotive Behavioral Therapist
Psychologist, Mumbai
Firstly i would like to request you to not diagnose your son on your own observations, as it needs to be done only by a professional. There is no form of minute dyslexia. Either he has it or not. He can be a slow learner or just have difficulty with learning and concentration, not necessarily a learning disorder. So do not have assumptions as it can be anything else. Kindly take him to a professional psychologist and a pediatrician who will do a complete physiological and psychological evaluation. If he has any learning disorder it will be diagnosed. After that there are many training centers for children with learning difficulties or disorders. He can be trained properly and taught different learning techniques. Please take proper guidance from professionals as proper diagnoses will save you and your son from a lot of trouble.

This is a normal reflux. Curd like little regurgitation is common while stomach is being pressed. So nothing to worry. We don't prefer perinorm unless there is severe vomits. The signs you mentioned is just a regurgitation. That does not warrant therapy. Do proper burping post feeds. Keep head up position and demoralized prone position for long. Regards.

All About Growth Hormone Deficiency

MBBS, MD - Internal Medicine
Internal Medicine Specialist, Faridabad
All About Growth Hormone Deficiency

Growth hormone or somatropin is responsible for cell growth as well as reproduction. But insufficient somatropin production by the pituitary gland may result in lack in height. It is mostly caused by a serious brain injury, any prevalent medical condition or might occur as a birth defect.

Types:

  1. Congenital GHD - This form of GHD appears from at the time of birth itself.
  2. Acquired GHD- GHD can be acquired during later life as a result of trauma, infection, tumor growth within the brain or radiation therapy.
  3. Idiopathic GHD- Idiopathic GHD is the third, and comparatively worst kind of GHD since it has no treatment.

GHD is mostly permanent, but can also be transient. Read on to know how to detect whether you or your child is suffering from growth hormone deficiency (GHD).

Symptoms:
Childhood onset

  1. Restricted height- Compared to other children of your child's age, he/she may be of shorter height, which is a rather conclusive sign to detect somatropin deficiency.
  2. Chubby and comparatively younger appearance- Your child may have a proportionate body, but if he/she is unnaturally chubby and has a baby-face compared to other children, he/she may be suffering from GHD.
  3. Late puberty- Your child's puberty maybe later than usual or even not appear at all, depending upon the gravity of the GHD.
  4. Hypoglycemia and exaggerated jaundice- Low blood sugar is amongst the most primary manifestations of GHD, along with extended duration of jaundice.
  5. Micro-penis- Micro penis condition is one of the incident signs of GHD, which later escalates to growth deficit as the infant gets older.

Adult onset:

  1. Fatigue- Adults with GHD may experience extreme tiredness throughout the day, with reduced muscle strength.
  2. Osteoporosis- Osteoporosis, along with bodily deformities, is a common sign in adults with GHD.
  3. Lipid abnormalities- A test of your lipid profile may reveal abnormalities in LDL cholesterol, insulin resistance, and impaired cardiac functions.

Tests to determine GHD:

  1. Physical test- A chart is drawn to determine the proportion of height and weight with respect to your age to detect anomalies.
  2. Hand X-ray- A hand X-ray can determine whether the age of bones are at par with your age.
  3. MRI-MRI scan can determine the health of your brain and pituitary gland.
  4. Test for other hormones- Growth Hormone may not be solely responsible for your health condition, so it is important to determine if other hormone levels are all normal.

Treatment:

  1. Hormone supplements- Hormone supplements like corticosteroids (hydrocortisone or prednisone), Levothyroxine (levoxyl, synthroid, etc), and others work to replenish the deficiency of pituitary hormones.
  2. Growth hormone injection- GH is injected beneath your skin, to cure GDH. This is a long-term treatment and requires constant monitoring.

My daughter is 4 years old she often complains about stomach ache and pain in d legs we have consulted 2 to 3 doctors but she still complains about stomach ache sometimes I want to know which medicine aur syrup can be given for immediate relief. And what is the permanent solution for it.

Diploma in Child Health (DCH), F.I.A.M.S. (Pediatrics)
Pediatrician, Muzaffarnagar
I suppose, her stomach ache is for short duration without any other symptom. Such type of pain is non specific and gets relieved on its own and usually no medicine is effective. It gets cure after passage of time. Medicine takes some time to act, by the time pain is relieved, credit goes to medicine while it subsided on its own. Therefore, I do not advise any medicine except to explain as now. Some time periodical deworming once in 2 to 3 months may help.

Try offering one spoonful or two spoonfuls of the following: Pureed or mashed cooked vegetables, such as carrot, parsnip, or potato. Mashed or pureed fruits, such as banana, cooked apple, pear, or mango. Gluten-free cereal, such as baby rice, sago, maize, cornmeal, or millet, mixed with your baby's usual milk. You can also try other fruits, such as peaches and avocados, and vegetables, such as butternut squash, broccoli, and cauliflower. You could try starchy vegetables, too, such as sweet potato. See our article on first tastes for recipe ideas. Once your baby is eating these fruits and vegetables happily, you can move on to other foods from the main groups: bread, rice, potatoes, and pasta dairy foods meat, fish, eggs, and beans Introducing a range of foods and tastes at this stage may reduce the chances of your baby becoming a fussy eater later on. It's important to offer your baby savoury foods as well as sweet at this stage, so she learns to like a range of flavours. Read our article on which weaning foods to introduce when.
