I am suffering from dry cough for the. Last 2 weeks and I have chest pain whenever I cough hard. Can you suggest what should be done?

MD - Alternate Medicine, PGDIP.IN GERIATRIC CARE, Post Graduate Diploma in Holistic Healthcare
Ayurveda, Balasore
Hi, if you are suffering from dry cough to get relief try to do some natural remedies at home. As soon as you feel soreness in your throat, make it a point to gargle with salt dissolved in warm water. The salt in the water can help drain excess fluid from inflamed areas in the throat reducing the symptoms.

My daughter is 4 years old and her skin is sensitive to insect bites (Mostly Mosquito). She develops bumps and rashes after bite. She can’t stop rubbing it again and again which converts it to a wound and in many places in her hand and leg she has black patch for this. Is there a medicine which will help reducing the sensitivity and what is the best medicine for after bite.

MD - Dermatology, MBBS
Dermatologist, Mumbai
Hello, protection from mosquitos is the best solution. Make her wear full sleeves clothes. Apply mosquito repellant creams or patches on clothes. After the bite, apply an antibiotic cream like fucidin cream on the wound twice a day. Apply dermocalm or calosoft lotion on the rash as and when it gets itchy. Her sensitivity may reduce as she grows older.

My daughter has hypoproteinemia and iron deficiency anemia. How can I help her? Please tell.

PDDM, MHA, MBBS
General Physician, Nashik
First of all try and find the cause of low iron levels. Once treated her iron levels will rise. Apart from that include food which are rich in iron in your regular meals. Such foods include: dark green leafy vegetables, dates, jaggery, raisins, nuts, legumes, pulses, etc. Increase your intake of vitamin c rich foods such as berries, sweet lime, orange, etc. Vitamin c help is increasing absorption rate of iron in body.

Stomach Ulcer - 10 Types of Food You Must Avoid!

Stomach Ulcer - 10 Types of Food You Must Avoid!

Many times we forget about the importance of our health in the race to pursue our careers and goals. We take our bodies for granted and keep working them without stopping for a breath. While some may have mastered this art, there are many who may not be able to cope with such a lifestyle and may end up falling ill. The most common problem that most people suffer from is stomach upset, gas, or stomach pain, and all of this may be because of not eating right or having irregular eating habits.

It is due to such problems that people fall ill and then go to the doctor with a problem that may take much longer to treat. However, if the patient starts to check in with the doctor before the stomach pain worsens, it may be easier to treat because very often the pain arises from stomach ulcers. Ulcers are sores that are caused on the lining of the stomach or the oesophagus or even on the intestines. In serious cases, the sores may cause great damage to the stomach and may lead to much worse issues. However, with the right intake of food, the damage may be controlled in combination with medicines and treatment from experts.

Foods to avoid
In controlling the spread of stomach ulcers or peptic ulcers, it may be important to know the food that should be avoided so that the medicines and treatments taken for controlling the problem may work better. Here is a list of foods that you should avoid:

  1. Hot beverages such as tea, coffee, cocoa and milk should be avoided because they cause acid imbalance in the stomach.
  2. Anything that may contain caffeine should also be avoided.
  3. Alcohol should be completely avoided by those suffering from peptic ulcers.
  4. Citric or sour drinks such as grape or orange drinks should also be avoided for remaining at ease.
  5. Any spicy powders or seasonings, such as pepper, chilli powder and garlic should be excluded from the diet.
  6. Anything that is made from milk or cream and is extremely fatty in nature should not be consumed.
  7. Flavoured cheese that is strong and spicy should not be eaten.
  8. Meats that include high levels of fat or those that are highly seasoned should be completely avoided.
  9. Chillies or peppers in any form should be kept away from your diet.
  10. Anything that is made from tomato should also be avoided, such gravy, sauces or raw tomatoes.

When you start to keep your diet clean and healthy, it may be much easier for your doctor to cure you of stomach ulcers. If you wish to discuss about any specific problem, you can consult a gastroenterologist.

I am very much worried about my sex life due to my masturbation habit and next month I will be getting married. How can I manage myself?

PDDM, MHA, MBBS
General Physician, Nashik
Masturbation is regarded as a normal, healthy sexual activity. In general, the medical community considers masturbation to be a natural and harmless expression of sexuality for both men and women. It does not cause any physical injury or harm to the body, and can be performed in moderation throughout a person's lifetime as a part of normal sexual behavior. It will not affect you or your ability to have children in the future. If you wish to reduce the frequency of masturbation: It originates from brain, due to thinking about sex. Hence: ·     Do not watch adult material. ·     Concentrate more on your studies or work. ·     Exercise regularly.

Tell me how to increase my sperm count really worried about it. I m at 30 years age now, wife is healthy and normal, my sperm count last checked were 5 million. Please suggest me ways to increase my sperm count, I am 110 kg obese. I chew tobbaco also. Height 5 ft 11 inch.

For the testes to work normally, the scrotum needs to have a lesser temperature than the body. Ascertain if that is the problem as tobacco keeps body heat on a high scale. Sperm count can be increased by eating rt food and exercise. But first think that it is possible.

First of all give a serious thought tob loosing weight .You can take help of a dietician, secondly regular exercise is an absolute necessity.thirdly you need to take medications specifically for PCOD and not just for getting periods, you can also go for ovulation induction with IUI if your tubes are normal.
