I am 35 years old male, got back pain 5 days ago while doing situps, taken nevoron injection got relief, now taking neorelax tablet. Had bed rest for 4 days. Came to work today with the waist belt. Is my case worrisome?

Hi thanks for your query and welcome to lybrate. I am Dr. Akshay from fortis hospital, new delhi. If your pain is mild and localized to your lower back region, do not worry too much since this is your first episode and it could be just a muscular strain. My advice would be to continue with conservative form of management including rest, ice packs locally, local analgesic sprays, short course anti-inflammatory medication as you are already taking. I am not a big fan of belts for support, so maybe you can avoid that. Do not bend forwards acutely, lift heavy weights or engage in long travels till your pain completely subsides and take care of your posture at home and also in your office. Normally pain should be better in 2-3 weeks time, please let me know if it is not settling/increasing etc. Do not hesitate to contact me if you need any further assistance.

Sitting

Sitting, places a great deal of pressure on the discs of the lower back. Sitting with a slight recline (backward lean) reduces disc pressure for most people. Lumbar supports, adjustable arm rests, and foot stools are also beneficial for reducing pressure on discs. Experiment with different sitting positions until you find one that is most comfortable. Changing positions periodically is also a good idea for reducing discomfort associated with sitting.

  • Sitting with a slight recline.
  • An ergonomic footstool.
  • Lying Down
  • Comfortable sleeping positions vary. One position that may provide comfort for a time is lying with a cushion under the knees.
  • Another comfortable position is side-lying while straddling a body pillow or buttress.

.this back pain is due to no back exercise.... due to this muscle get stiff .... when suddenly you get move fast that time this stiff muscle get break and pain start..... in ayurved there is mentioned one procedure KATI BASTI ....DO THIS FOR FIVE DAYS WITH MEDICATED OIL if you want to do it you should do it under doctor observation .... so consult ayurvedic doctor near you ... you will definitely get good result ..

Advice. Avoid sitting cross legged. Avoid squatting- quadriceps exercises- lie straight, make a towel role and put it under the knee, press the keen against the role, hold it for 20 secs. Repeat 20 times twice a day. This will help relieve some pain. Core strengthening exercise- straight leg raised with toes turned outward, repeat 10 times, twice a day. Hams stretching- lie straight, take the leg up, pull the feet towards yourself, with a elastic tube or normal belt. Repeat 10 times, twice a day. Sports taping- stretch the tape from both ends and apply on the affected area contrast fomentation (hot and cold).

I have too much pain in both lower legs below the knee whenever I go for running / jogging. I am not able to run even the shorter distance. What can I do to reduce my leg pain and run without any problem.

Before running/jogging make sure you drink enough of water, take enough carbohydrates rich foods and protein blended foods. 1 hour before sports. Before running don't forget to stretch your calf and toes and heel. Take regular 5000 IU of Vitamin D3 at night. Consult with a Qualified Physiotherapist for clinical evaluation. Good luck.
