Loss of Sexual Desire - Ways to Get Back on Track!

Loss of Sexual Desire - Ways to Get Back on Track!

Your fantasies might have taken a backseat for the time being or might have remained silenced for more than a while. The other processes of your usual life go on perfectly except for a few changes that you either consider as minute or you attribute them to any cause other than lowered libido (interest in sex).

Loss of libido can create hurdles in a man as well as a woman's life and thus should be corrected at the earliest possible. Even if you don't care much about an impaired sex life, libido loss can affect your overall health that can prove to be harmful in the long run.

Some may say that it’s all in the mind. Yes, but to a certain extent only.  Considering the following causes, you would agree that it is not always in the mind that one loses interest in sex.

The common causes of decreased libido can be listed as below:

  1. While in males, testosterone levels may sharply drop due to aging, in females the estrogen levels may drop after surgeries pertaining to the vaginal tract, after menopause or after childbirth and subsequent breast- feeding.
  2. Exhaustion from prolonged office work or extensive travelling.
  3. An instance of sexual abuse in the past can result in lowered libido.
  4. A lousy lifestyle where you either smoke or drink regularly can prevent you from experiencing sexual desires.
  5. Irregular sleep patterns can be a contributing factor as well.
  6. Illnesses like cancer, diabetes and neurological disorders can hamper your sex drive.

Ways to deal with your libido loss:

  1. Make significant efforts to change your lifestyle. If you have an erratic lifestyle, sexual dysfunction is almost inevitable. You need to follow a routine to prohibit your libido from deterioration.
  2. Meditate and/or workout daily.  Indulge in brisk walk, jogging, yoga, light exercises, swimming, play games like, badminton, table tennis, squash, etc.  Over a period of time, it can restore your interest in sexual activities.
  3. Try and reduce the stress level from your life.  Spend quality time together and with family. Take time out for a movie, an event, a long drive, or a vacation.  Share your day’s activities with each other.
  4. Eat lots of vegetables and fruits. Cut down on drinking and smoking and gradually give them up completely.
  5. Take at least 8 hours of sleep so as to wake up latest by 6:00 in the morning.
  6. A counseling by a good sexologist can help to a great extent in overcoming this problem. A major part of my treatment for libido loss consists of Counselling. Many of my patients are now happy to revive their sexual life through my treatment. One can consult me in private if they want to say goodbye to Loss of Libido.

However, one must beware of the Quacks claiming to help you get back your “Mardana Taqat and Josh”. Always seek help from a qualified Doctor / sexologist / sexual counselor with a good track record.

How Your Sex Life Changes When You're Under Stress?

How Your Sex Life Changes When You're Under Stress?

Stress and sex are a bad combination. It is common that stress causes a person’s sex life to suffer. Listed below are few ways in which stress can affect your sex life:

  1. Negative body image: The hormones associated with stress are capable of affecting your metabolism. If you gain weight or feel sluggish, it makes you feel bad about your own body, which in turn hinders your desire to initiate sex. A lower self-image leads to less amount of sex and in turn, creates relationship problems. One of the main sources of stress can be your relationship; if you cannot nurture it, it might lead to elevation of stress.
  2. Negative effect on libido: Cortisol is a hormone that is produced by stress. It is needed by the body in small doses and over short periods of time. Increase in stress over a period of time results in increased levels of cortisol, which lead to suppression of sex hormones. Lower amount of sex hormones results in lower libido.
  3. Excessive drinking: It is of common knowledge that people drink to relieve stress. Maximum times, increased stress levels lead to excessive drinking. Men have difficulty having erections after they drink too much. In women, excess alcohol causes dehydration, resulting in reduced lubrication. These problems lead to dull sex.
  4. Impact on fertility and Menstrual Cycle: In women, stress affects the pituitary gland which is responsible for the thyroid, ovaries and adrenal glands. Improper functioning of the ovaries can adversely affect the menstrual cycle. Periods might become irregular or menstruation might stop.

The Causes of Premature Ejaculation!

The Causes of Premature Ejaculation!

There are various phases of sexual activity that include attraction, stimulation, excitement and peak. These stages usually come in close sequence and follow a normal course until the sexual peak ends in sexual orgasm. Yet, this process can be hindered by a condition known as premature ejaculation that many men suffer from. Premature ejaculation happens when a man ejaculates sooner than required or planned, in the process of sexual activity and intercourse. This usually happens within a minute or so of penetration. There are a variety of causes for this, starting from biological to psychological. Read on to know more about these causes.

Erectile Dysfunction: This condition is one where the male patient experiences trouble during sexual encounters and experiences. As per this condition, the patient will have difficulty in mustering up and thereafter, retaining an erection for satisfactory sexual intercourse. This condition can also contribute to premature ejaculation.

Chronic Health Issues: Many male patients who are suffering from chronic health issues are at
serious risk of developing premature ejaculation in the long run. These health issues range from diabetes to heart disease. Due to these diseases and ailments, the patient may feel considerable stress or even may not be able to ejaculate later in the process of intercourse.

Anxiety: Anxiety is one of the primary reasons for such physical problems that one experiences during sex. These patients may be suffering from anxiety due to their performance in bed, or they may be anxious about a new relationship or partner. This anxiety can lead to a state where the patient is not able to fully enjoy the act of intercourse and ends up ejaculating prematurely.

Relationship problems: Another issue that many male patients suffering from this condition face includes relationship problems. These problems can create trouble in the sex life of the patient due to which sex may not be happening on a frequent or regular basis. Due to this, the ejaculation may also suffer, leading to further stress.

Biological Issues: There are a number of biological problems due to which men may also experience premature ejaculation and other related health issues. Abnormal hormonal levels and an imbalance in the state of one's hormones can lead to this condition. Also, there are instances where the neurotransmitters of the brain enjoy an abnormal level of activity which can lead to an abnormal reflex reaction in the ejaculatory system of the patient. Nerve damage can also lead to this condition.

Thyroid: Male patients suffering from thyroid problems have also reported instances where premature ejaculation becomes a problem.

This condition can also be an inherited one. It is best to take a professional opinion and seek therapy for treatment.

Sexual Dysfunction: What You Should Know About It?

Sexual Dysfunction: What You Should Know About It?

What is sexual dysfunction?

Sexual dysfunction is often described as the difficulty exhibited by a couple or an individual during ant stage of the sexual activity. It might include pleasure, preference, desire, arousal and orgasm. As per the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders, a person with sexual dysfunction shows extreme stress along with interpersonal strain. This disorder is believed to have an impact on the sexual life of the people experiencing it.

Types of Sexual Dysfunction:

  1. Sexual desire disorders: This is often characterized with decreased libido or an absence or lack of sexual desire, activity or fantasies. The condition usually ranges from a general lack to a lack of the sexual desire and activity for the partner. This condition might be present from the very beginning or might start after normal sexual functioning. Whatever the cause may be it leads to decrease in the production of estrogen in women and testosterone in both women and men. Other causes are believed to be fatigue, pregnancy, aging, medications like SSRIs and psychiatric conditions like anxiety and depression.
  2. Sexual arousal disorders: These are commonly as impotence in men and frigidity in women, though now the terms have been replaced. Impotence is now termed as erectile dysfunction and frigidity has been defined by many terms describing the problem. As per the, American Psychiatric Association's Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders the term is described in 4 categories. These are lack of arousal, lack of desire, lack of orgasm and pain during intercourse. In both men and women the condition can be exhibited as an aversion or avoidance of sexual activity with their partner. Men might show a complete failure to maintain erection, excitement and pleasure during sexual activity.
  3. Sexual pain disorders: This is often prominent in women and is also known as painful intercourse (dyspareunia) or vaginismus (involuntary spasm of the vaginal wall muscles often interfering with intercourse).
    • Dyspareunia is caused by the dryness of vagina in women. This poor lubrication might be due to lowered stimulation and excitement and hormonal changes caused due to pregnancy, breast feeding and menopause. In some case contraceptive foams and creams can also cause dryness. Anxiety and fear towards sex can also lead to dryness.
    • Vaginismus is often thought to occur through a sexual trauma like abuse or sex. Another condition vulvodynia might occur in women. In this a woman experiences burning pain while sexual activity. This is often thought to be related to the skin problems of the vaginal and vulvar region.
  4. Post-orgasmic diseases: The symptoms of these occur after ejaculation or orgasm. This is often accompanied with headaches in the neck and skull during sexual activity which might include orgasm or masturbation.

Youth Impotence - Common Sexual Problems Among Generation X Males!

Youth Impotence - Common Sexual Problems Among Generation X Males!

Impotence is often related to old-age and deteriorating sexual drives. However, not all cases of impotence pertain to the older crowd. Youth impotence is an increasingly common condition among males in generation X, however, it is rare but not totally absent in females as well.

In males, youth impotence refers to a young man’s incapability to attain an erection or maintain it throughout the intercourse. The main reasons for youth impotence can be attributed to over-masturbation or having sex too often. A certain study indicates that excessive masturbation at a very young age requires an excess of testosterone, thereby restricting the resting time of the nervous system. Endocrine function of the body is adversely affected as well because the production of hormones and liver enzymes is gravely reduced.

Other causes of male youth impotence are:

  1. Marijuana: Marijuana increases the level of the inflammatory hormone ‘prostaglandin’, E-2, that is responsible for inflammation of the brain arteries which results in interrupted blood flow to the penis.
  2. Methamphetamine and Ecstasy: Prolonged meth abuse can cause confined testicular function and orgasmic disorders whilst over-dosing on ecstasy is responsible for wrecking the ‘serotonin’ producing neurons present in the brain that regulate and control sexual activities.

Causes:
Youth impotence is relatively a typical in females. However, it isn’t a condition which is non-existent. Females in the ripe ages of their youth experience “inhibited desire disorder” which means the woman has no or very low desire to engage in any form of sexual activity. This condition can be attributed to a variety of factors: drug abuse, unpleasant past experiences, chronic distress, insomnia, etc. Experiencing a piercing pain during intercourse can also lead to this condition. This pain is unnatural and might persist due to lack of lubrication, vaginismus (pelvic muscle spasms) or genital herpes

The youth impotence in both males and females can be healed by a combination of the following methods:

  1. Psychosexual counselling
  2. Intake of pills which stabilise the flow of hormones in your body
  3. Kegel exercises which strengthen one’s pelvic muscles
  4. Addition of necessary nutrients to your diet

Male Masturbation: 5 Things You Didn't Know!

Male Masturbation: 5 Things You Didn't Know!

Self-stimulation or pleasuring your self which will help you in achieving that ultimate pleasure is what defines male masturbation. The most common way of male masturbation is by jerking the penis while stimulating oneself in the best way possible with the help of visuals. On regular days, a five minute jerk before attaining an orgasm is okay, but on other days when you want to last longer, you can practice edging (slowing down right before an orgasm) for a heightened climax.

There is no proper time to masturbate during the day, but it is advised that masturbation should be limited once in 10 days. Because, your cum is made up of blood and protein, losing too much due to multiple masturbation sessions can be harmful for your health and result in lethargy, penis pain and problems during sex. If you want to deviate from the regular form of fantasising and jerking, you could try the following:

  1. Lubrication: Using flavoured lubricants will help your penis feel more stimulated as the foreskin moves up and down more effortlessly. This will arouse you more throughout the process of jerking and result in a better orgasm.
  2. Kegel exercises: Practicing holds and quick pumps will help the muscles in your penis become stronger and more relaxed. This will ensure a better jerk-off during masturbation which means more pleasure.
  3. Visualise/ fantasise: Instead of relying on porn during masturbation, visualise or fantasise a situation for better stimulation and a more heightened orgasm.

The common side-effects of over-masturbation are:

Masturbating before sexual intercourse is a great option for both men and women as it makes the penis harder in men and increases sperm mobility, while in women, masturbation can be a wonderful form of foreplay and increase lubrication. Masturbating before intercourse also helps in delaying the climax during intercourse. Masturbating twice a day is considered normal; however, if you are practicing the process more than the acceptable number of times, you could face ill-effects of over-masturbation.

Cancer - How It Affects Your Sex Life?

Cancer - How It Affects Your Sex Life?

Hampered drive for physical intimacy may not be the case with everybody suffering from cancer. Since, each individual is different with varied sexual needs, it is rather impossible to predict how cancer would affect a person’s sex drive. But certain treatments of cancer might take a toll on your libido and subsequently, your sex life.

Cancer and certain treatments of cancer, can be the reason behind your low libido as they can cause:

  1. Imbalance in the sex hormones
  2. Scarring of the skin
  3. Breathing problems
  4. Diarrhea or bowel problems
  5. Pain
  6. Tension or anxiety
  7. Depression or sadness
  8. Irritability
  9. Fatigue (Tiredness)
  10. Persistent sickness

With any of these side-effects, you may not have the urge of indulging in sexual intercourse because of the constant irritability and pain, essentially resulting from weakness. You might also think less of yourself, with no care for the way you dress up, make up or do your hair as you used to do before. With fatigue playing nemesis to your libido, you may feel entirely washed out, exhausted and spent after your intensive chemotherapy sessions.

How do you address this problem?

  1. Speak out: Try unburdening yourself of the worries and anxiety in front of your partner or the doctor and make them understand how you truly feel about yourself. They may be able to guide you home.
  2. Plan your rumble beforehand: You can plan your sexual activity by taking pain killers an hour prior to lovemaking.
  3. Foreplay helps: Remember, sexual contact cannot spread cancer, ever. An intense session of foreplay has never disappointed anybody and it might work wonders if you have been going through all the rigor of cancer and its treatment lately. It would make you feel genuinely cared for; this might just egg you on to come out of that shell of depression and anxiety and enjoy sex like the way you used to.

Premature Ejaculation - Treatment Options Available For It!

Since long, ailments which can hamper your physical intimacy with your partner are of grave concern and amongst these premature ejaculation tops the list. Thus it is important that you discuss it out with your partner along with a therapist and resolve it through medical help.

It is important that we understand what is premature ejaculation in order. Premature ejaculation is uncontrolled ejaculation either before or shortly after penetration. It may result in unsatisfactory intercourse for both partners. This can increase the anxiety of that person. It is one of the most common forms of male sexual dysfunction.

What are the causes behind PE?
The exact cause of premature ejaculation is unknown, but it's often rooted in physical, psychological, or emotional issues. In some cases, it may be related to a medical cause such as hormonal problems, injury, or a side effect of certain medicines.

Other causes may include:

  • Early experiences with masturbation and sex.
  • Erectile Dysfunction.
  • Relationship problems.
  • Intercourse with a new partner.

What are the symptoms?: The primary symptom of premature ejaculation is the inability to delay ejaculation for more than one minute after penetration. The main symptom is an uncontrolled ejaculation either before or shortly after intercourse begins. Ejaculation occurs before the person wishes it, with minimal sexual stimulation.

How it is diagnosed?: Premature ejaculation is diagnosed based on typical symptoms. To understand your problem, your doctor will need to discuss your sexual history with you. Be frank and open. The more your doctor knows, the better he or she can help you.

Ayurvedic Premature Ejaculation Treatment
According to Ayurvedic perspective, premature ejaculation is caused by aggravation of Vata (air) and Pitta Dosha at the commencement of physical mating. These doshas can be aggravated by anxiety or nervousness before the sexual act. Vata is characterized by its qualities of quickness and heightened sensitivity to the sense of touch. This gives a predisposition towards quicker ejaculation. Pitta plays a role in thinning of the semen, thereby supporting its early ejaculation. Secondly, these aggravated doshas cause hyperactivity of muscles in the male organ, thus increasing sensitivity to vibration and hence leading to early ejaculation.

Ayurvedic treatment of premature ejaculation is aimed at keeping the Vata and Pitta in balance by eating a balanced diet. Problems of stress and anxiety during sexual intercourse can be effectively dealt with rejuvenating herbs, yoga, meditation and counseling.

What Premature Ejaculation Can Really Do To Your Sex Life?

Premature ejaculation happens when a man ejaculates sooner than required or planned, in the process of sexual activity and intercourse. It is basically a form of male sexual dysfunction that can be diagnosed with the help of a physical examination where the doctor can also ask questions pertaining to stress levels and other medications and ailments. This usually happens within a minute or so of penetration.

Reasons for premature ejaculation:

Biological Issues: There are a number of biological problems due to which men may also experience premature ejaculation and other related health issues. Abnormal hormonal levels and an imbalance in the state of ones hormones can lead to this condition. Also, there are instances where the neurotransmitters of the brain enjoy an abnormal level of activity which can lead to an abnormal reflex reaction in the ejaculatory system of the patient. Nerve damage can also lead to this condition.

Thyroid: Male patients suffering from thyroid problems have also reported instances where premature ejaculation becomes a problem. This condition can also be an inherited one. It is best to take a professional opinion and seek therapy for treatment.

Relationship problems: Another issue that many male patients suffering from this condition face includes relationship problems. These problems can create trouble in the sex life of the patient due to which sex may not be happening on a frequent or regular basis. Due to this, the ejaculation may also suffer, leading to further stress.

How premature ejaculation can be dealt with?

  1. One can practise breathing exercises and other relaxation techniques including meditation that can help in distracting the mind so that there is less scope of anxiety. This can also help in putting the patient in the right frame of mind where he can actually enjoy the process of sexual activity from stimulation to excitement to peak and orgasm.
  2. One can try different kinds of sexual positions and scenarios for more imaginative role play and better sexual excitement which can delay the ejaculation.
  3. A person can also learn to be more intimate with the partner so as to identify the triggers that lead to premature ejaculation.
