Every arthritis is not the same

Every arthritis is not the same. While osteoarthritis, also called as green arthritis, may require only painkillers and rehabilitation exercises, the red inflammation arthritis called rheumatoid arthritis, if not treated early and aggressively can cause serious deforming complications.

Any arthritis in young women of child?bearing age should not be ignored, especially if it is worse in the morning and improves by movement. Most of them will have high platelet count on blood examination. These patients require aggressive treatment with disease?modifying drugs within days of the onset of symptoms and diagnosis. Approximately 1?2% of population may have this type of disease.

Osteoarthritis, on the other hand, is a disease of 50+age group and is due to wear and tear of various joints in the body and break down of the cartilage cushion in the joints. It mainly affects the weight?bearing joints like the knees, hips, neck and lower back joints. Inflammation is not a major feature of osteoarthritis. The experts said that another form of joint disorder is due to gout, which is never seen in people below 40 years of age and is almost never seen in young women before the onset of menopause unless there is a known underlying kidney disease and never seen in children.

The progression of osteoarthritis can be arrested with appropriate exercises, weight reduction and preventing posture and movement that worsen the disease.

Typical wear and tear of osteoarthritis is caused by sitting cross legged, doing Padmasana, squatting, other non physiological postures, sitting on low level surface like floor and low chairs, doing pushups, going up and down on stairs, etc.

Most yoga postures should be done under medical supervision and should follow with a counter yoga exercise. Most patients of serious arthritis end up with treatment with other systems of medicines or with quacks.

I am 78 years old. I was walking 5 km every day till six months back but all of a sudden I started having pain in my left knee and I am now confined to my home. I can't move freely and I walk with pain whenever I have perforce to do so. Osteoarthritis is only just beginning. Doctors say it will heal itself, which is not happening. Kindly advise.

This could be due to oa knee &/or obesity. X rays of left knee joints (digital) physiotherapy along with medicines will help. Do knee exercises. It may have to be further investigated rule out diabetes & vit. D deficiency or any other metabolic disorder. Sleep on a hard bed with a soft bedding on it. Any way take multivitamins & other antioxidants along with. Ibuprofen 200mg od & sos x 5days caldikid plus (mankind) 1 tab odx10days you will need other supportive medicines also. Make sure you are not allergic to any of the medicines you are going to take. Do ask for detailed treatment plan. Don't ignore. It could be beginning of a serious problem.

I'm 55 yrs male; since the past 2 weeks i've been getting a severe pain on the rear of my neck towards the right side shoulder and to the upper right arm. Pain killers such as Ulracit & Infra-red light treatment has not given relief. I had a habit of sleeping on a slightly elevated pillow. Please let me know what could be the problem and how to find permanent relief.

Sir I am 61 yrs. Recently a month back fell down enroute fetching milk. I fell on my left shoulder and the entire body weight fell on my left shoulder. I consulted physios and not underwent therapy for 10 days, but my pain has not reduced and I cannot move my left shoulder freely. Please advise.

Hello sir, this is Dr. Hitin mathur from new delhi, welcome to lybrate. With regards to your shoulder, did you get an x ray done, if not get an x ray shoulder ap and a axial views. You may have a fracture. If there is no fracture and you still can't actively lift the arm, then there may be torn rotator cuff muscles. An mri of the shoulder will help in finding that out. Revert back with the investigations.

I have no sleep from last week. I have joint pain and body pain from last year I have been to a doctor he said it's normal but I have a badly pain. I have breathing problem.

1. Start with Physiotherapy treatment. 2. Learn spinal and knee exercises. 3. Use lumber spine belt if pain in back. 4. Wear knee cap if pain in knee. 5. Don't sit on floor. 6. Don't lift heavy things. 7. Do Hot fermentation twice a day. 8. Apply volini cream before sleeping. 9. Take calcium, vitamin D 3 and Methylcobalmine supplement for one month minimum.

I am 67. I am 60 years. I suffer from neck pain which is called spondylitis or spondylosis - I don't know which. Can you tell me the difference? can you tell me the best form of treatment. I travel a lot as my job demands it.

It could be due to cervical spondylosys or spondilitis. Both of them mean the same. Confirm by x-rays of cervical spine ap & lat. Views no pillow under the head during sleep. Do neck & shoulder exercises. Any way take caldikind plus (mankind)1tab odx10days paracetamol 250mg od & sos x 5days contact me again need be. Make sure you are not allergic to any of the medicines you are going to take. B since you have to travel a lot, you must keep a cervical collar with you all the times.

dear user, have you gone for MRI, if not go for mri of LS, you may need to take traction, inferential and ultrasonic therapy if pain is severe and at home you can apply heat fermentation twice day. use LS Belt in day time. correct your posture to avoid pain.

Hi, I am having very frequent cold that includes running nose as well as a lot of sneezing in particular. When it starts I will sneeze like 10 times continuously. It started few years back when I used to travel early morning like 5 am on 2 wheeler . I am from Jammu It started there . I am now in bangalore and its like 4 years now and it is still going on. I take Combinase AQ drops when I am having cold and it gives good relief but it comes back like the same day or the next day. Weather change also causes this . Please help.

Dear lybrate-user seth, do as follows 1. Sepno tablets (salveo company)- 2 tablets twice daily after food with water 2. Chitrak haritaki awleha (unjha company) - 1 teaspoonful twice daily with lukewarm water before food 3. Amla juice (patanjali) - 30 ml twice daily after food with water.
