My father is a diabetic and is 64 years old. He is taking amaryl 1 mg in empty stomach in the morning. Istamet 50 mg / 500 mg after breakfast and cetapin xr 500 mg after dinner. Is these combinations and timings are safe. If not advice for timings and medicine.?

Mr. lybrate-user, Thanks for the query. There is no fixed schedule for taking anti-diabetes medications. Schedule can be altered based on the need of a specific patient. Most important is the blood glucose control achieved by the patient. Ideally with treatment fasting blood glucose should be < 100 mg, Pp 160 to 170 mg & HbA1c% < 7. If your father has been able to maintain his glucose levels in the above mentioned fashion, then treatment is working well. Along with the drugs, diet control and exercise are equally important. Hi gain weight you need to combine a balanced eating pattern with regular physical activity. You should be eating at least 6 small meals a day, rather than sticking to 3 square meals. You could divide it as 3 main meals and 3 snacks. You need to be eating every 2-3 hours. Space out snacks during the day so you don't spoil your appetite. Bread, cereal, rice, whole wheat, dalia and pasta: biscuits, and corn-bread are good sources of carbohydrates. Fruits: dried fruits, fruit nectars, and large quantities of fresh fruits vegetables: include, potatoes, peas, corn in your diet. Meat, poultry, fish, dry beans, eggs, and nuts: beef, pork, lamb, poultry, salmon, omelets, nuts, peanut butter, kidney beans, chickpeas will help you gain weight. Include dairy products like milk, yogurt, and cheese: milk, fruited yogurts, hard cheeses, ice cream, puddings, custards, milkshakes. -nuts and seeds make a healthy option for snacks. -roasted channas and peanuts are good -peanut butter on the sandwiches are a great mid-meal choice. -you must know that cereals actually contain some healthy calories. Stay hydrated: drinking plenty of water and other fluids like juices, milk, soups etc, will work in your favour. Do not drink water before a meal and in between the meal as it may make you lose your appetite, thus calorie intake suffers. Sleep: at least 8 hours of sound sleep is a must. Since your body is actually building up muscles, while you rest. Weight gainers have long term side effects.

Diabetes can be healed with proper diet n if one follows it seriously can even low the disease amount of your tablet. Having sweets is not at all good for your health. Sugars are already naturally present in d carbs you consume. Hence to get rid of your habit of consuming sweets, initially limit your quantities n slowly stop at all. Artificial sugars to be avoided completely. Include lot of fibre before every meal to keep your sugar levels in balance. Flaxseeds, cinnamon tea etc r known to cure diabetes. For a detailed menu plan for diabetes, revert back.

Hello, you can continue with Gambogia tabets as these are good for weight loss. Take 1 glass of luke warm water with lemon juice and honey in the morning for 15 days in a month. Take 1 cup of green tea in the evening daily. Do Surya Namaskar , yoga asans like Bhujangasana (Cobra Pose), Sarvangasana (Shoulder Stand Pose),Vajrasana (Diamond Pose), Pavanamuktasana (Wind-Relieving Pose), Matsyasana (Fish Pose)

Hello! the 1st thing you need to take care of is good quality protein. Try to take milk n products, egg whites, fish, lean chicken, dal n products etc. With complex carbohydrate n good quality fat (almond, walnut, peanut, flex seed, chia seed etc.) stay away from preserved food, ready to eat foods, deep fried food, excess sugar n sweet items.

Your father's condition can be classified as pre diabetes also known as impaired glucose tolerance. He is at increased risk of developing frank diabetes. So for now life style modifications like low sugar and fat diet, daily 30-40 minute brisk exercise etc along with blood sugar check up at least every 6 months is recommended. If sugar level does not come down to normal range, prophylactic metformin regimen would be considered. Thank you.
