How would I reduce my weight. And how to make health in good condition. And how to get relax from the gas trouble.

PGDD, RD, Bachelor of Home Science
Dietitian/Nutritionist, Mumbai
Hye. In order to lose weight you must either eat sensibly and exercise to burn off calories. Eat as per the body's needs. Food that is not used to fuel the body is stored as fat. A major component of losing weight is to make smarter food choices. Here's how: Limit non-nutritious foods, such as: Sugar, honey, syrups and candy, pastries, donuts, pies, cakes and cookies, soft drinks, sweetened juices and alcoholic beverages Cut down on high-fat foods by: Choosing poultry, fish or lean red meat. Choosing low-fat cooking methods, such as baking, broiling, steaming, grilling and boiling. Avoiding high-fat snacks like chips and chocolate. Avoiding fried foods. Using less margarine and mayonnaise. Avoiding high-fat gravies, cream sauces and cream-based dishes. Eat a variety of foods, including: Fruit and vegetables, whole grains, breads, cereal, rice and pasta, dairy products, such as low-fat or non-fat milk or yogurt, low-fat cottage cheese and low-fat cheese, protein-rich foods like chicken,  fish, dals and legumes, or beans should be included in your diet. Change your eating habits: Eat three balanced meals a day to help control your hunger. Watch portion sizes and eat small servings of a variety of foods. Choose low-calorie snacks. Eat only when you are hungry and stop when you are satisfied. Eat slowly and try not to perform other tasks while eating. Find other activities to distract you from food, such as walking, taking up a hobby or being involved in the community. Include regular exercise in your daily routine. Avoid gassy foods like cabbage cauliflower heavy pulses like rajmah or chole. Eat smaller and more frequent meals.

Eat Breakfast
There’s no better way to start your morning than with a healthy breakfast. Include lean protein, whole grains, fruits and vegetables. Try oatmeal cooked with low-fat milk, sliced almonds and berries, or top a toaster wafle with low-fat yogurt and fruit.

Post Graduate Diploma in Dietetics
Hello, it's good that you have started jogging. But as you have started just before few days back, it won't show instant results. And taking lime with warm water only and doing no diet won't help you. That warm water will help you to increase your metabolism. For healthy weight loss you need to concentrate on your diet also. You will have to maintain your diet and exercise routine. Maintain good eating habits. Have balanced meal, increase your fibre content, take proper rest.

Hi Lybrate User, Fit and strong body is what you need... and you need to workout daily for 2-3 hours towards that, if you want bulging muscles. There is no instant way to get muscles... Any supplements that you try can have severe side effects. Please avoid that. Currently you are already overweight by about 8 Kgs... You need to regularly do Cardio exercises to bring your weight down. .. Try to do regularly intensive Cardio for 1 hour and weight lifting for one hour. That way you will be able to improve your body.

Our daily energy requirements for proper functioning of our body is 1600-2200 k cal of energy if we want to remain fit and healthy. But there is a misconception that weight is reduced by dieting. But weight is not reduced by only skipping our meals or prohibition from sugars but until we are not aware what are our body energy requirements, it will be difficult to loose weight. If we restrict ourself from taking daily diet to 1100-1200 kcalories, and increases our workouts, only then we can think about reducing our weight and for that we must obtain proper knowledge of exact energy levels in a particular dish we are eating, only then we can achieve our target of reducing weight by means of simple mathematical calculation. Why Ramadan is the best time to go on a diet ?

Why Ramadan is the best time to go on a diet ?
Why Ramadan is the best time to go on a diet ?

Ramadan is around the corner and it isn’t always thought of as being an opportunity to lose weight because the spiritual aspect is emphasised more generally than the health aspect. However, it’s a great chance to get the physical benefits as well. Ramadan fasting can also be viewed as a special form of dieting as it enforces control over the dietary behaviour of the fasting person. Every religion prescribes fasting as it is also good for your health. Ramadan fasting is a dietary control given by Allah himself so that we can focus more on worship.

Islam discourages binging on food , but unfortunately in Ramadan people forget this directive and consume many foods which are harmful and cause unnecessary weight gain. If you go on a personalized diet in Ramadan as prescribed by me, then it will help you in stronger self control and hence also help more in the spiritual aspect of Ramadan. By having a prescribed diet specially designed for Ramadan you will save both time and money which you can channel to the main essence of Ramadan fasting i.e worship. The Ramadan diet plan is designed taken into consideration various parameters like your ramadan food habits, your prayer schedule and sleep patterns.

If you suffer from any of the following diseases then , a Ramadan diet plan is highly recommended and in some cases could be life saving:

High BP
Kidney diseases
Liver diseases
Thyroid problems
PCOD etc

You can forward this to your friends and family who will be partaking the upcoming Ramadan fasting.

Consult me privately for your own Ramadan or general fasting plan on lybrate.

Reasons for Infertility in Men

Reasons for Infertility in Men

Male infertility is characterized by irregular sperm function or reduced sperm count. There are a host of causes that may lead to infertility in men such as lifestyle choices and obesity.

The various symptoms of infertility in men are:

  1. You may experience lumps or swellings in the testicles
  2. You may have chronic respiratory problems
  3. You may experience low libido
  4. You may have ejaculation disorders
  5. Impaired sense of smell
  6. Chromosomal complications such as reduced body hair
  7. Your sperm count may be low

The reasons of infertility may range from medical causes to lifestyle choices; some of the causes may be related to the environment. A common cause of infertility is due to problems with transportation of the sperm. These are mainly due to blockages in the tubes that carry the sperm.

The various reasons for infertility in men are:

  1. Infection: Various infections such as inflammation of the testicles and epididymis, which causes blockage of the tubes carrying the sperm can be a cause.
  2. Varicocele: This condition is characterized by swelling of the veins that are connected to the testicle. This condition is known to change the normal temperature of the testicles, thus leading to complications in sperm production.
  3. Hormonal imbalances: Various hormonal problems such as complications of the hypothalamus, pituitary and adrenal glands may lead to low testosterone levels in the body.
  4. Problems in sexual intercourse: Problems such as erectile dysfunction or premature ejaculation are reasons why you may have infertility.
  5. Medications: Various medications such as using anabolic steroids, antifungal medications and chemotherapy may hamper production of the sperm and thus reduce your fertility.
  6. Radiation exposure: If you have been exposed to radiation such as x-rays, your sperm production may be impaired, thus causing infertility. However, this condition can be reversed if you are no longer exposed to the radiation.
  7. Consumption of alcohol and smoking: Both alcohol and cigarettes may cause problems in sperm production, and cause erectile dysfunction. Excessive drinking may lead to complications in the liver resulting in infertility.
  8. Obesity: If you are overweight, then it's time to lose those extra kilos. Obesity leads to a number of health problems, one of them being erectile dysfunction.

Seasons change... and your diet must too!!

Diploma in Diet and Nutrition
Dietitian/Nutritionist, Mumbai
Seasons change... and your diet must too!!

Do the frequent changes in the season really affect your body and food habits?

A big YES!

Selection of appropriate food according to seasonal change is very important for staying healthy. In modern times, most fresh fruits and veggies are available round the year, however, the nutritional content is much less in the non-seasonal fruits and vegetables. An update of your eating habits consistently is a must to stimulate energy level of your body.

Here are some key dietary behaviors that must be considered while choosing the perfect diet plan for different seasons-

- Cherish the novelty of Spring

In spring, the green leafy vegetables with their fresh, tender leaves represent the arrival of the new season. These must be added to your menu that must include such lettuce, parsley, spinach, basil and fruits like strawberries, apricot, blueberries, peaches, and cherries etc. Try to consume less amount of salt in this season.

- Take Delight in the cool squash of Summer
Due to excessive heat in the summers, it is recommended to adhere to the watery, cool and light diet. Include seasonal fruits like watermelon, plums, melons, cherries, vegetables such as tomatoes, cucumber, mint etc in your regular diet. Restore your energy with cool, refreshing drinks such as fresh juices, coconut water, milk shakes etc. Drink lots and lots of water during the summers.

- Relish the freshness of Raindrops
The Monsoon season comes with lots of lip smacking food items. In this season, many people face dyspepsia problems so pick up foods that are easily digestible. Avoid consumption of watery foods, heavy meals, meat and fish. Eat gram flour, brown rice, barley, corn, oats, garlic, ginger, turmeric, yogurt and fruits like pomegranate and apple.

- Savor the crisp sunshine of Autumn
Consumption of warm harvest food products is appropriate for this season. Veggies like onion, fenugreek, garlic, pumpkin and fruits such as banana, pears, apple, cranberries work well in this season. Spices, nuts and seasonings like cinnamon, mustard seeds, walnuts, and peppercorns are a must in the autumn months.

- Enjoy the warmness of Winter season
As soon as the cold winter seeps in, you must eat warm nutritional foods. In the winter months, the guiding principle is that the foods that are slow to grow are more warming than the ones that grow rather quickly. This means you can take foods like lamb, fish and chicken and root vegetables like onion, garlic, potato and carrots. You can also take sesame, corn, fenugreek and milk products that are good sources of nutrition.

In short just 'Eat by the season' to stay healthy!

Sir, I have loss my weight approximately 12 KGS in 40 days. With alternate diet and fruit but my body has not get tightness and I'm continue doing exercise daily about 2 hours. Now I have 85 kgs. Than what ? I loss some weight more or not ? My height is 176 cms. Thanks.

Hello, healthy weight loss should be 3-4 kgs/month. Excessive weight loss in a short span can have adverse effects on the body and its organs especially the liver, spleen and kidney. So just maintain your weight for a while with balanced diet and then you can lose more upto 78-80 kgs is good.
