Why Does Depression Make Us Feel Guilt or Shame?

Why Does Depression Make Us Feel Guilt or Shame?

In order to answer this question, it is important that we first discuss what depression is. Feeling sad, lonely or low is very common. So how can we point out which is depression and which is sadness? Well, sadness is a fleeting feeling and is the most normal reaction to loss or life’s struggle. Depression, on the other hand, is pretty permanent (may be not permanent, but it may last really really long or may occur very frequently, if not consulted with a professional). It is so overwhelming and inexplicable that these mental feelings start involving physical symptoms as well. Depression can keep an individual from leading a normal and an active life.

Depression, if not treated, may take an even worse form and might possibly end at suicide. Clinically, certain symptoms that occur persistently might point towards depression.

  1. Inability to concentrate
  2. Fatigue
  3. Guilt and shame
  4. Insomnia
  5. Irritability
  6. Hopelessness
  7. Eating disorders
  8. Loss of interest in previously enjoyable activities
  9. Persistent headaches, pains, aches, digestive problems
  10. Empty feeling
  11. Suicidal thoughts

Here comes the part about guilt and shame. One of the very common symptoms of depression is feeling of unnecessary guilt or shame. Guilt is a feeling of remorse or regret for violating an internal value. Shame is an overall feeling of self contempt. While both these are pretty normal feelings for a normal individual, for depressed individuals, these feelings get magnified to unimaginable extents.

How are these manifested?

  1. Constantly apologising for things one hasn’t done
  2. Blaming themselves for everything
  3. Thinking they don’t deserve happiness
  4. Feeling inferior or unworthy
  5. Feeling of being a burden

The next plausible question is why does this happen?

These feelings generally tend to go back to childhood. People who have faced childhood traumas or have been physically, emotionally or sexually abused are more prone to feelings of depressive guilt or shame. In the young age, they do not really have proper understanding of the situation and hence they end up blaming themselves. During adulthood, they keep believing the same, thus causing intense feelings of guilt and shame. A lot of counselling can bring such individuals to the understanding that whatever happened to them as children was never their fault.

Also, it has been researched that the region in the human brain associated with shame and guilt is unusually active in depressed individuals. If you wish to discuss about any specific problem, you can consult a Psychologist.

Since your body doesn't make vitamin B12, you'll need to get it from animal-based foods or from supplements, and it needs to be consumed on a regular basis. Exactly how much you need and where you should get it from depends on things like your age, the diet you follow, your medical conditions, and in some cases what medications you take. Aristoneurol injection can be taken Cyanocobalamin is a man-made form of vitamin B12 used to treat low levels (deficiency) of this vitamin. Vitamin B12 helps your body use fat and carbohydrates for energy and make new protein. It is also important for normal blood, cells, and nerves. Injections can be taken. Blood report is fine.

Koi nukshan nahi hai agar kam quantity mein liya jaye, jaise ki ek chota pc gur ka khane ke baad..is tarah lene se fayda hi hai kyonki gur digestion ke liye achcha hota hai or is mein iron bhi hota hai jo ki immumity badata hai....zyada lene se weight bad sakta hai aur diabetes patients ko bhi gur nahi lena chahiye.

Normally the stomach sphincter closes completely. If it is patulous ti means it is not completely closing and thus allowing acid flow from stomach to your food pipe and mouth-commonly known as GERD, causing acidity. If it is severe, you will have to take medicines as advised by gastroenterologist after doing an endoscopy. Try eating frequent small meals instead of 3 large meals, eat your dinner 2 hours or more before you sleep and use more cushions to elevate your head while sleeping.

Hello, as per your complaints- weakness, easy fatiguability, low energy levels, hair loss, low stamina- it seems like you have some disturbance. It can be caused by both psychological causes such as underlying affective disorder in the form of depression; as well as an underlying endocrine dysfunction such as hypothyroidism, hypogonadism, hypopituitarism can also cause similar symptoms. It is also possible that you might have both the causes concurrently. Hence to find the cause, a detailed assessment is required which would involve a detailed discussion about your life style, work, affective state, family history, regarding any organic illness. Further on this basis a management plan would be made which will include investigations, therapeutic interventions in the form of medications and psychological interventions for complete recovery. Hence I would suggest you to consult me in private, so that your problems could be assessed in details, and a further plan action can be made.

GO HIGH ON PROTEIN, VEGETABLES & INCLUDE GOOD FAT IN YOUR DIET – To control your calorie intake and diet quantity, you must introduce protein rich food, low carb vegetables, and healthy fat to your diet. This way you will keep yourself satiated for an extended period, which will further decrease your appetite. With decreased appetite, you will eat in less quantity without gaining weight or putting on fat. Consuming food rich in healthy fat will help you gain enough energy to function without any health issues. This way you achieve the medium carb eating range of 20 to 25 grams per day. Protein increases metabolism rate which will help you lose around 60 to 100 calories per day. When your stomach is full, you will likely eat less. A proper protein rich diet eliminates late night hunger pangs and will keep you away from unnecessary binging. You can include the following rich in protein food items in your diet: Eggs- They are a good source of high amounts of omega 3 which boosts metabolism. Introduce egg whites to your breakfast menu to stay fit and healthy. Fish and seafood- Highly rich in protein and very low in saturated fat, fish and seafood diet comes along with zero cholesterol. Salmon, tuna, shrimps, trout, lobsters, etc. Are rich in protein. Meat- Chicken, lamb, and mutton are rich in protein. Avoid red meat as it contains a high level of cholesterol. If you are on a meat diet, don’t fry or cook in oil. Bake, broil or grill to get the best results. The low carb vegetables, on the other hand, are excellent sources of vitamins, minerals, and fiber for your body. It is highly essential for your balanced diet to contain fiber to regulate your digestive system. You can eat these low carb vegetables as much as you like. But remember not to exceed the calorie level of 25 grams per day. You can include these low carb vegetables in your diet: Spinach Broccoli Cauliflower Cabbage Kate Sprouts Lettuce Celery Swiss chards Cucumber When you include fats in your diet, make sure that you only consume a sufficient amount as needed by your body. Adding a bit of fat content in your diet will help you continue with the diet plan. If you resort to low carb along with low or no fat diet, then you will give up quickly. Do not be afraid of adding healthy fats in your diet, as good fat rich diet will be entirely consumed and exhausted by your body in the form of energy. You may include these fats in your food- Olive Oil Avocado oil Tallow Coconut oil It is important to mix these diet elements to have the best results. If you continue this diet, your calorie intake will be within its range, which is 20 to 25 grams. It will lower insulin level in your body, and you will lose weight faster.

How Should You Approach PAIN Caused Due to Sports Injuries?

How Should You Approach PAIN Caused Due to Sports Injuries?

How should you approach pain caused due to sports injuries?

Sports injuries can happen to any person who engages in sporting activities. These affect full-time athletes as well as those who partake in sports and exercising on an occasional basis. Most sports injuries are acute and affect the muscles and skeletal system. Usually, they are not chronic unless caused by a grave accident or left untreated.

The most common types of injuries caused due to sports are as follows:

  •  ankle sprain
  •  wrist sprain
  •  concussion
  •  knee injury
  •  tennis elbow
  •  hamstring pull
  •  cartilage damage

Treatment of sports injuries depends on a number of factors such as the type of injury, part of the body affected, the intensity of the pain, and the patient's age and medical history.

Accordingly, the most common ways of approaching the pain caused by sports injuries are:

1. Immediate remedies

Several quick aid, home remedies are used to treat pain that is caused by minor injuries to muscles, such as sprains and strains. It involves alleviation of pain through rest, using ice packs and hot water bags, wearing supports and elastic compression bandages.

2. Medication

Many medicines such as painkillers and anti-inflammatory pills, creams and sprays effectively reduce pain caused by sports injuries. In extreme cases, morphine and codeine are also prescribed.

3. Physical therapy

A number of injuries can be treated and cured through certain exercise and workout routines. These aim at stretching and strengthening the affected area to provide pain relief through increased flexibility and muscle activity.

4. Injections

Various substances and chemical compounds can be injected into the injured area which works on the affected ligaments, tendons, and cartilage to reduced inflammation and relieves pain.

5. Surgical procedures

If the injury is too severe and the pain too intense, the best option for treatment is surgery. This is generally resorted to in case of damage to the skeleton in the form of broken bones and cracked ribs.

Devising the exact treatment method requires a thorough examination of the injury. Diagnosis can only be provided after taking into consideration the many factors that affect treatment. The method of treatment varies from case to case and consequently, the recovery time also differs.

I am suffering from weakness. and I am not improving in my height. what should i do ?

Weakness is a result of lack of physical or muscle strength. If you are feeling that extra effort is required to move your arms, legs, or other muscles, it could also be a result of any disease, illness and too much activity at one time and not taking the food to match the amount of physical effort you are doing. Sometimes low levels of minerals (electrolytes), such as potassium or sodium also result in body weakness. Other important reason could be the problems with your thyroid gland. Because your thyroid gland is responsible for regulating the way the body uses energy. A low thyroid level can cause fatigue, weakness, laziness, weight gain etc. And a high thyroid level can cause fatigue, weight loss, muscle weakness etc. Sometime because of stress you may feel disinterest in your routine works. Since the reasons for your weakness are not known, I shall advise the following - 1. Keep yourself hydrated. 2. Get extra rest for some days till you feel more energetic. 3. Avoid watching television for long hours. Indulge in relaxing activities. 4. Avoid stress and too much physical exertion. 5. Take a nutritious diet with more protein items in homemade food like soya, sprouts, dals, paneer, milk, seasonal fruits. 6. Do light physical activity, meditation and yoga. 7. Take one good multivitamin tablet after food for 7 days.

Hi lybrate-user tips for weight loss eat fresh vegetables daily. Avoid having sugar completely. Eat whole wheat bread instead of white bread; avoid everything made from white flour and make whole wheat bread, chapattis and brown rice a way of life. Do not skip a meal and eat three meals a day. Drink plenty of water to eliminate the toxins from the system. Limit your fat intake to 2-3 teaspoons a day. Increase the fiber intake as it provides a sense of fullness and also prevents hunger pangs. Take antioxidants for protecting the body against the toxins released during weight loss. Exercise catalyzes your efforts to lose weight and even regular walking for thirty minutes can give you the benefits of an aerobics exercise. To improve the metabolism, try increasing the duration, frequency, intensity of your daily workout. Remember that maintaining the ideal weight is a lifetime commitment and not a short-term affair. Firmly believe that the pleasure of being trim and healthy is far better than the pleasure of eating unwisely.
