I have been suffering from filaria to my left foot for about 20 years. What should I do? is there any permanent cure? I am 55 years old.

MBBS
General Physician, Delhi
There is no permanent cure for filaria. The damage done is done. For acute attack however, a stat dose of albendazole and ivermectin is helpful. Some people also favour a tab, doxycycline course for 6-8 weeks. Meet a nearby physician to decide on which course to take.

From what u have sent it looks like u have prediabetes. Are u sure u taking the meds regularly? Such high BP in young age is not good for u in the long run. U may need some dose adjustment and also to find the cause of ur high BP. We need to look for the secondary causes of Hypertension since you are very young. You need a thorough evaluation - both clinical and biochemical. Kindly do it at the earliest.

I am type 1 insulin dependent diabetic taking injections every day for last 10 years. Recently I read about insulin pens which look less intimidating. How are they different from injections and are they better or worse?

There are many types of insulinis. Most of them are available in pen. If you are type 1, you would benefit from buying a permanent insulin pen. You would only have to change the cartridges when the insulin gets over inside. Most companies have helplines in place to assist taking of the injections.

Mr. Lybrate-user, if she has excellent sugar control then taking a small banana occasionally is ok, but regular consumption is better avoided. To have very good of diabetes fasting sugar level should be closer to 100 mg, pp 150 to 160 mg and hba1c% <7. (ideally <6.8).

Tips to reduce weight.

C.S.C, D.C.H, M.B.B.S
Pediatrician,
Tips to reduce weight.
You need to have a diet and exercise plan based on your bmi, age & weight and sex, presence of any diseases. There are exercises specific for each part of body like hips, thighs or abdomen. Comprehensive exercise & diet plan based on whether vegetarian /non vegetarian can be given. May also need to do some tests. In brief, weight reduction can be achieved only by reducing the intake of food 1/3 of what you take now. And by appropriate exercise plans for each part like belly, thighs, legs etc. To burn off fat. Some tips 1) drink three or four cups of water whenever you feel hungry and just before eating food 2) take boiled or raw vegetable like cucumber, carrot etc. As half of your diet. Then take 1/4 of your total diet as sprouted pulses / proteinaceous food like roti, cooked pulses and remaining with rice or other carbohydrates. Oil or ghee etc. Should be just bare minimum. The most important is to burn off the energy intake by exercises. There is no shortcut or medicines without exercise. The food we eat is utilised for our energy needs and the remaining will be stored as fat which leads to obesity. It is better to do some tests.

I'm a tall & skinny guy. So suggest me. How to build up my body?

Advanced Aesthetics
Ayurveda,
I'm a tall & skinny guy. So suggest me. How to build up my body?
Eat more than three meals a day. If you naturally have a really fast metabolism, eating three meals a day, no matter what? s in them, isn't going to help you bulk up. your body burns calories fast, so you need to feed it more than it can use up right away. That means eating not just when you're hungry, but throughout the day. Aim to eat five meals a day to gain weight. Stick to whole foods loaded with nutrients. To gain healthy weight, eat food that's nutrient rich and nourishing.while you could easily gain weight by drinking sugary sodas and eating large pizzas every day, this can wreck your metabolism and cause you to gain fat instead of muscle. When you're choosing food to eat, try the following look for foods that are relatively unprocessed. For example, choose old-fashioned oatmeal instead of instant, and go for fresh chicken as opposed to processed lunch meat? cook as many meals from scratch as you can. Avoid getting frozen dinners, fast food and snack foods, which contain a lot of salt, sugar and other fillers that aren't nutritious. Focus on protein, fats and carbohydrates. These are the three staples that will help you gain weight, and you need plenty of each of them to stay healthy. Focus on incorporating protein, fats and carbohydrates into every meal you eat so your diet stays balanced. Here are some examples of good choices in each category proteins: eggs, salmon, tuna, and other fish;, and ham; chicken breasts and thighs; lean and steaks fats: olive oil, safflower oil, coconut oil, and grape seed oil; avocados, walnuts, almonds, flax seeds? carbohydrates: fruits and vegetables; beans, lentils, peas; brown rice, whole grain bread, whole grain pasta and other whole grain products; honey and fruit juice for ayurvedic medicine contact purna clinic gulbarga in 1 month wt increase e4-5 kg no any side effect you take 1 month trail pck and course is 3 months.

How I can know weather he is having obesity or not? However he is fat but not that much. Is there any index to fo so....
Hye. Thank you for your query. For your height of 5'6" your ideal weight should be 65 kgs. Since you are weighing 68 kgs, you are overweight by 3 kgs. You can also get your body composition analysis done to check if your fat percentage is in range. At times your weight on scale could be normal but your fat percentage is way high.

Kegal exercise kaise krte hai please saral tareeka bataye aut kitni baar krni chahiye.
Hye. Thank you for your query. To get started, find the right muscles. To identify your pelvic floor muscles, stop urination in midstream or tighten the muscles that keep you from passing gas. These maneuvers use your pelvic floor muscles. Once you've identified your pelvic floor muscles, you can do the exercises in any position, although you might find it easiest to do them lying down at first. Perfect your technique. Tighten your pelvic floor muscles, hold the contraction for three seconds, and then relax for three seconds. Try it a few times in a row. When your muscles get stronger, try doing kegel exercises while sitting, standing or walking. Maintain your focus. For best results, focus on tightening only your pelvic floor muscles. Be careful not to flex the muscles in your abdomen, thighs or buttocks. Avoid holding your breath. Instead, breathe freely during the exercises. Repeat 3 times a day. Aim for at least three sets of 10 repetitions a day. Don't make a habit of using kegel exercises to start and stop your urine stream. Some studies show it could cause a bladder infection.

Mr. Lybrate-user, getting cramps could be due to lack of calcium and vit d. Rheumatism (or rheumatoid arthritis) usually does not cause such difficulty. You get the viamin d and b12 levels checked. Or else can start vitamin d3 and calcium. B12 supplements.

Whether soda contains caffeine ?
Whether soda is more dangerous than other soft drinks ?Please tell.
Hi, carbonated water is water into which carbon dioxide gas under pressure has been dissolved. Some of these have additives such as sodium. Most carbonated water is sold in ready to drink bottles as mineral water and carbonated beverages such as soft drinks. Whether homemade or store-bought, soda water may be identical to plain carbonated water or it may contain a small amount of table salt, sodium citrate, sodium bicarbonate, potassium bicarbonate, potassium citrate, potassium sulfate, or disodium phosphate, depending on the bottler. By itself, carbonated water appears to have little impact on health. While carbonated water is somewhat acidic, this acidity is quickly neutralized by saliva. Carbonated water may increase irritable bowel syndrome symptoms of bloating and gas due to the release of carbon dioxide in the digestive tract. There is tentative evidence that carbonated water may help with constipation among people who have had a stroke. Some carbonated waters have added sodium, so they may be an issue for those on low-sodium diets. Carbonated soft drinks such as colas do have health risks. Carbonated colas have a correlation with slightly decreased bone density in older women. Soft drinks are about 100 times more erosive to teeth than plain carbonated water. A soft drink (see terminology for other names) is a drink that typically contains carbonated water, a sweetener, and a natural or artificial flavoring. The over-consumption of sugar-sweetened soft drinks is associated with obesity, type 2 diabetes, dental caries, and low nutrient levels. Many soft drinks contain ingredients that are themselves sources of concern: caffeine is linked to anxiety and sleep disruption when consumed in excess.
