Most people can prevent vitamin b12 deficiency by eating enough meat, poultry, seafood, dairy products, and eggs. If you don't eat animal products, or you have a medical condition that limits how well your body absorbs nutrients, experts recommend taking a b12-containing multivitamin and eating breakfast cereal fortified with vitamin b12. If you're using vitamin b12 supplements, let your doctor know, so he or she can make sure they won't affect any medicines you're taking.

I am a female aged 61 with diabetes. I have prolapse of the bladder and in a recent gynaec examination I was told that the uterus has also descended slightly. My uterus has also not shrunk. There is a white discharge. My pap smear was negative. Menopause was at age 49. Please let me know if I should have the uterus removed and have the bladder pushed back into position with 'stitches' or a mesh?

Diploma in Anesthesia, MBBS
General Physician, Hyderabad
if the uterus is bulky and has descended, better get it removed and if bladder has prolapsed also it requires correction. if not now, you need to get them corrected/removed one day or the other. so if you are otherwise fit and the timing is convenient get it done now. No specific advantage in postponing the corrections. good luck

Hi my brother Last week he landed there from india. He asking us if any treatments are available for lymph glands swelling? He is 31 yrs old. We are bit worried. He is unmarried. Pls tell us all positives and negatives on this situation thank you

MS - ENT(Gold Medalist), MBBS
Ear-Nose-Throat (ENT) Specialist, Delhi
Lymph node enlargement can be due to many reasons like infective (tubercular/other bacterial infection) and as a part and parcel of tumor in the body (may be of lymph node itself or metastasis from other body organs). There are many diagnostic modalities available to find out the underlying cause like complete blood count, peripheral blood smear, chest xray, ultrasound and very important Fnac (fine needle aspiration cytology) and biopsy. At Least he should get Fnac done and then send the report.

Pernicious anemia: a form of anemia that occurs when the stomach lacks a naturally occurring substance needed to properly absorb and digest vitamin b12 bile reflux: a backflow of bile into the stomach from the bile tract (that connects to the liver and gallbladder) infections caused by bacteria and viruses you can go in for an upper gi endoscopy to look for cause in your stomach and then start treatment accordingly after consulting a gastroenterologist.

I am 53 years old my father and mother are having sugar My HBA1C is 6.1 please suggest.
Mr Gopinathan, HbA1c% of 6.1 is a prediabetic condition. You need to be careful. To prevent diabetes exercise regularly, avoid sweets, deep fried foods, junk foods and pastries. Consume more of green leafy vegetables, salads and fruits. Avoid smoking and alcohol. Take a restricted diet giving calories based on ideal body weight and level of exercise. This should help.

Hai doctor suffering from fever and my head is also pain and my eyes aslo pain and please give me solution.

AUTLS, CCEDM, MD - Internal Medicine, MBBS
General Physician, Faridabad
Hai doctor suffering from fever and my head is also pain and my eyes aslo pain and please give me solution.
Fever is not considered medically significant until body temperature is above 100.4 F (38 C). Fever serves as body's natural defences against bacteria and viruses which cannot live at higher temperatures. Also, the body's defence mechanisms seem to work more efficiently at a higher temperature -Fevers of 104 F (40 C) or higher may be dangerous and demand immediate treatments like: -Acetaminophen (dolo-650 mg) twice or thrice can be used to lower a fever . Aspirin should not be used for fever in children/ adolescents or during a viral illness. -Wear loose fitting clothes and don’t overdress. Overdressing can cause temperature to rise further. -Tepid water (85 F [30 C]) baths may help bring down a fever  -The body should be cooled with a wet sponge. -A fever can cause severe dehydration. Drink plenty of fluids.. Have citrus fruits, particularly Vitamin C rich ones like mausami, Amla juice etc.  -Take light and easily digestible home cooked meals like sprouts.avoid outside food -Wash hands frequently with soap and water especially after returning from public places or public transport.  -Further therapy depends on the cause of fever like urinary infection/typhoid or malaria/dengue infection and the accompanying symptoms that need to be investigated and treated accordingly
