Pregnancy can occur only one day of cycle that is ovulation day so unprotected sex around that day only important. As only one day in month nature should be given 12-24 trials before COUPLE need any active management by Gynecologist or infertility specialist. As that time has passed, meet Gynecologist or infertility specialist and go as couple.

The best method of avoiding a pregnancy is to always use condoms, every time and all the time. If you are weary of that, and cant rely on partner, you can start an oral contraceptive pill regularly for as long as both of you do not want to get pregnant. You can consult if you need help choosing your contraception

Lybrate-user, if all other things are normal, and tsh levels are higher as in your case, conception may not occur. Tsh level has to be around 2 milli units/l before conception, plus during all three trimesters of pregnancy: 1st trimester 0.1 to 2 milli units/l, 2nd 0.3 to 3 milli units, 3rd 0.3 to 3.5 milli units/l. So presently if you are not on treatment with thyroxine you may have to start that so the tsh levels are brought below 2 milli units/l.

Is it possible that when one virgin girl had sex for first time and still no blood is coming from her vagina. Is it possible or she is lie about her past. Because as per my knowledge I know every virgin girl is bleeding form her vagina after first time sex.

MD-Ayurveda, Bachelor of Ayurveda, Medicine and Surgery (BAMS)
Sexologist, Haldwani
Hello- Yes it is possible for a virgin girl to not bleed during first sex. A woman may not know her hymen has broken, because it doesn't always cause pain or noticeable bleeding. Having a broken hymen therefore doesn't necessarily mean a woman has lost her virginity.

Hello doctor. Im 27weeks pregnant. My breast have developed dark itching marks. How can I get ridden of that.

Hello doctor. Im 27weeks pregnant. My breast have developed dark itching marks. How can I get ridden of that.
The dark itching marks may be developed due to hormonal change during pregnancy. Apply Creams or oils (such as vitamin E oil, avoid hot showers and baths, after bathing, pat excess water off your skin and apply moisturizer before it has fully dried. Apply moisturizer that you keep in the refrigerator may further reduce itching. Try eliminating drying soaps, skin products with alcohol, and heavily chlorinated water from your daily routine. These may contribute to skin dryness. If you live in a dry climate, use a humidifier at home. For a severe, persistent itch, contact your Doctor personally.

I had a TAH on 25th may 2013. This was done due to adenomyosis. I have kept my ovaries. I would like to know if there is any tests I could do to chk my hormone level. I am 37.

There is an increased chance of ovarian failure after hysterectomy. You can get your serum FSH done .in menopause (or ovarian failure) serum FSH levels rise.

Is There an Association Between Brain Size and Intelligence?

DM - Neurology
Neurologist, Rajkot
Is There an Association Between Brain Size and Intelligence?

When it comes to the brain and the IQ, is bigger the better? Does size really matter? Is there really a connection between the size of your brain and intelligence? With the help of findings by neurologists
and scientists, we seek to find out!

  1. Ailments and the Brain: Scientists have found that children with autism have a brain that has grown in a disproportionate manner in the very first year of their life. This prevents the child from making connections with normal behaviour. On the other hand, children and adolescents who suffer from Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder or ADHD have shown signs of having a much smaller brain size. Many scientists have shown that the size of the brain shrinks as we age, and this does not have any visible effect on our cognitive abilities.
  2. It's all Relative: The size of the brain does not really have a bearing on the way a person's cognition gets shaped. Even large mammals like elephants and whales are finally hunted and tamed by humans who have smaller brains in comparison. The brain is made up of billions of neurons which need to function properly. It may be seen that scientists consider the brain mass in relation with the rest of the body so as to speculate about the cognitive abilities of the person. Why is this required? Large animals need a well functioning and proportionate brain size to control and run their organs with proper cognition for satisfactory results, which is what we humans seem to have done.
  3. Neanderthal Brains: Historically, the earliest man or the Neanderthals are said to have had larger brains than we do. These people are believed to have brains that are at least 10% larger than the brains that we have in our modern times. The shape of their brain was different too. They were also heavily muscled people which had a bearing on the size and shape of the brain and bodies as well as the lean tissue within the brain. They also survived very successfully for a period of over 200,000 years, which obviously points to some form of elevated cognition, as per many scientists.
  4. Animals: While animals with small brains like lizards and reptiles do not perform too well on IQ tests, the animals with bigger brains like elephants and dolphins perform much better. But the medium sized brains of monkeys, lemurs and other animals are said to perform in the best manner. The correlation between the body size and the brain does not seem to hold good here, as per various researches.

So the verdict as per medical science and research stands divided!

Hi. My wife is not getting periods since last 10 months after she got a surgery on her first delivery and came close various times with protection also she did pregnancy tests various times but it was always negative. Is there any problem with her. What can she do.

Bachelor of Ayurveda, Medicine and Surgery (BAMS), MD - Alternate Medicine

Hi. My wife is not getting periods since last 10 months after she got a surgery on her first delivery and came close ...
Generally periods donot come for atleast 4 to 6 months after delivery. This is called lactational amenorrhea. When mother is feeding ,a hormone called oxytocin is released in the body which prevents periods from occurring this is not your own way to maintain gap between two children however, should be taking proper precaution during this time, because pregnancy can occur even in the absence of periods. You need not panic once uou wean your child means once your child stops taking feed, periods may start spontaneously.
