Dear physiotherapist! I'm a asthma patient. kindly explain me the physical methods to get rid of wheezing instantly when it occurs. What are the physical ways of treating asthma other than medication?

PDDM, MHA, MBBS
General Physician, Nashik
Montemac L is a controlled medicine for allergic asthma. If you are able to remain symptom free by using it daily, I would suggest you to continue it for at least 3 months continuously. I would suggest you to consult an Allergist-Immunologist who will suggest you allergy testing. This will help you identify substances causing symptoms to you as well as precautions regarding how to avoid them. Also, an Allergist may suggest you specific allergen immunotherapy depending upon the results of allergy testing, which may improve your allergy symptoms. Please try to avoid exposure to smoke, dusts and air pollution as much as possible. Also please do not smoke if you are a smoker. A nutritive diet rich in vitamins & minerals including anti-oxidants is very important to support immune system. I would also suggest you regular breathing exercises which help you in a long run.

Hi, I am feeling very allergic, chest tightness, breathlessness, unable to walk a small distance. My age is 45 years.

DAA, DNB
Pulmonologist, Bangalore
Hi. I understand your concerns. You are most probably having asthma. Asthma is a common allergic problem causing cough, breathlessness and wheeze. You will need to undergo a detailed evaluation with chest x ray and pulmonary function test which is needed for the diagnosis and also to assess the severity of asthma based on which treatment can be started. Consult a pulmonologist for the same. Hope your questions were answered. Thanks.

Hi immunity  has a lot to do with rest diet, exercise and lifestyle. If you have repeated or persistent cold it may actually be allergic rather than infection. If due to ideation and you need to bolster your immunity Start have plenty of fruits and vegetables  in your diet. A course of vitamin B complex and C for 1 month. Add a probiotic supplement to your regular meals. Have sleep for atleast 7 to 8 hours. Exercise atleast for 30 minutes  every day. For Allergy Steam inhalation  twice a day.. Hope this helps

You Can Control Your Asthma

DNB Respiratory Medicine, MBBS, FNB Critical Care Medicine
Pulmonologist, Mumbai
You Can Control Your Asthma

It is World Asthma Day. Let us all join hands and control it.

Remember 'Prevention is the best strategy'

Asthma is a disease of the airways in the lungs.
You can get asthma at any age. You can not catch asthma from other people. Many times more than one person in the same family has asthma.
Airways carry air to the lungs. Airways get smaller and smaller like branches of a tree.

When asthma is under control, the airways are clear and air flows easily in and out.

When asthma is not under control, the sides of the airways in the lungs are
always thick and swollen and an asthmatic attack can happen easily.
During an asthma attack, less air can get in and out of the lungs. People a cough and wheeze. The chest feels tight.
The sides of the airways get even more swollen, squeezed and start to make mucus.

AlwaysvRemember

Preventive medicines for asthma are safe to use every day.
- You can not become addicted to preventive medicines for asthma even if you use them for many years.
- Preventive medicine makes the swelling of the airways in the lungs go away.

Monitor the signs and symptoms of this disease and Be prepared.
Always have asthma medicine. Buy before you run out and Always carry your quick-relief asthma medicine with you when you leave home.
