Dear Sir, My father feel Prostate Problem. He have Prostate Size in ultrasound is (4.3x5x5)cm=56 gms. Also his age is...
The normal size of a prostate is around 20 gms. The size of a prostate is not dependant on the size. That means even small prostates can be severely symptomatic. Surgery is the only method of treating prostates and exercise has no role in treatment. You must consult the doctor for full assesment.

Now the the cancer is overcome but a new problem of' lymphedema has invite to her right arm (cancer affected side, Now she is wearing a belt given by the doctor but there is not much improvement and 8 months have passedpassed. I wanted to know that is there any suggestion you would provide to overcome it?

MD Radiation Oncology, ESMO Certified Medical Oncologist, DM Medical Oncology (Pursuing)
Oncologist, Mumbai
Hello Mr. Lybrate-user. Your mother is suffering from post surgery lymphedema. 1. Though it is difficult to cure this condition but certainly there are ways to minimize the lymphedema by proper exercises and use of compression sleeves. I can demonstrate you some exercises if you choose to discuss with me on (lybrate). 2. You can consult a physiotherapist (a doctor with md in physiotherapy) for this problem. 3. Compression sleeves can help to reduce the swelling. To prescribe the exact one, I need to know the measurement of your mother's right hand from the shoulder tip and if possible, a clear picture of the right arm with swelling. This will help me to prescribe the exact size and pressure required for the compression sleeves.

Show to surgeon. She will probably need fnac test of the lumps. Depending on the size of lump and fnac report, treatment is to be decided whether to go for surgery or medical treatment.

Top 5 Ways To Survive Chemotherapy

MD - Oncology
Oncologist, Hubli-Dharwad
Top 5 Ways To Survive Chemotherapy

If you are undergoing chemotherapy for breast cancer treatment, it is likely for you to experience and feel its ill effects on your body. Chemotherapy refers to the use of several medicines and drugs which are used in cancer treatment. Although chemotherapy is considered to be effective for improving cancer, it is associated with fatal side effects on the body. There are certain practices to follow in order to get through and survive chemotherapy, thereby inflicting less harm to your body. They are as follows:

  1. Drink fluids: You need to drink large amounts of fluids at a rate which you think is beyond your body’s capacity. This helps in flushing out toxins from your system quickly, which will make you feel better. If you have a hard time drinking water, you should opt for fluids such as popsicles, broth, fruit juice and ginger ale.

  2. Consume bland food: During chemotherapy, your craving for food and your appetite reduces. However, you can make a difference by eating. You should try eating bland and mushy food items, such as pudding, oatmeal, white potatoes, white bread and yoghurt. Do not eat fruits for the first few days after chemotherapy.

  3. Find an outlet for your pain: You should find out vents or outlets for the pain and misery you are going through. Some people like to write about their emotions and feelings in the form of online blogs. By doing so, they get to share their feelings with other people online, which is a good form of support.

  4. Dress comfortably: It is sometimes difficult for you to accept that you are a patient. You may want to avoid looking like a sick patient and want to get dressed up. However, this is kind of ridiculous and you should try to dress comfortably instead of trying to cover up your condition. Bring a blanket to the chemotherapy room and wear socks.

  5. Exercise: Although you will not feel like working out and straining yourself because of weakness, exercise is very important for you. It helps in making you feel better as your blood circulation gets regulated properly, which results in the faster elimination of toxins from the body. You should try yoga or at least walk for 30 minutes regularly.

It is also very important for you to take your medicines properly. This will help you get back your strength and energy. You should be gentle with yourself and believe that you will be able to survive what you are going through. Give your body the time to heal.

DNB, MBBS

Headache may be a symptom of cancer and many other diseases. Please see a neurologist and eye specialist for ruling out other causes, if not then you can get an MRI done to rule out the cause. Mri is safe to do as there is no radiation exposure. Other causes may be migraine, some infection etc

Can I continue to use complementary therapies, take herbal remedies or vitamin supplements when I'm on chemotherapy? Can I do sports when I’m on chemotherapy? Can I drink alcohol when I’m on chemotherapy? Can I eat what I want when I’m on chemotherapy? Can I follow an anti-cancer diet whilst receiving chemotherapy? Can I go on holiday abroad when I’m on chemotherapy? Can I have sex when I’m on chemotherapy? Can I smoke when I’m on chemotherapy? How will I know if the chemotherapy is working? If I can’t work, is there any financial support that I can get?

DNB, MBBS
Oncologist, Faridabad
You can take vitamin supplements but I do not advocate any kind of alternative therapies while on chemotherapy. You can take part in sports but be careful not to over exert and not to get exposed to injury and infection. Indoor games would be ideal. Do not use alcohol and tobacco while on chemotherapy, as mucositis may worsen apart from developing resistance to therapy. While on chemotherapy we restrict certain food which may harbour infection, so you must avoid. You can take freshly cooked home made healthy food. Traveling abroad may depend on your chemotherapy schedule, if it permits then you may but please take travelling insurance while you go abroad for any emergencies. You can have sex but using contraceptive, preferably barrier methods. Chemotherapy response will be assessed during its course by your oncologist. There is no specific provision or legal boundation that you must be supported financially, it depends on your company policy.

Hello I am 21 years girl and I had once pain in breast an since last 2 days its hard around nipples what should I do an is it a symptom of breast cancer?

DGO, MBBS
Sexologist,
Breast pain is a common problem if it occurs before periods, because it happens due to hormonal changes, however if the pain stays all through the month but you can feel some hardness so you may need to do ultrasound examination of breasts. Cancer 'usually' does not occur at this age, it may be an infection, see a doctor.

Since few days a nerve bump like structure occur in her hand something like tumour. I'm very upset. What is this? Does cancer can occur in hand also? Please suggest me.

DNB, MBBS
Oncologist, Faridabad
Dear mam it could be schwannoma or ganglion, usually benign and can be excised. There can be malignant tumours as well in hand like skin cancers, fibrosarcoma or bone tumours. Most likely the one you are suffering from may be benign and can be observed or excised, but once you show it to a clinician to be really sure.

Is there any way to cure lung cancer without chemotherapy, radiation or surgery? By homeopathy or ayurveda or anything else can it be cured?

Hi lybrate-user, I appreciate you seeking clarification. Alternative systems of medicine, undoubtedly, will continue to have a strong role to play both in the prevention as well as treatment of cancer, independently and also as a complement to the conventional cancer treatment. The possibility of a cure, however, is influenced by a couple of factors including stage and its associated comorbidities, age, vitality, gene expressions, chromosomes affected, histopathological grading and the type of cancer etc all. Usually, small cell lung cancers are difficult to treat than the non small cell lung cancer (nsclc) ones. Again, metastasis into distant organs complicates stuff and tends to reduce the chances of a cure. Hope this clarifies. Take care and all the very best.

Hi lybrate-user, I appreciate you seeking help. First and foremost, I would advise you to keep your diet & lifestyle streamlined and stay relaxed/ stress-free. Also, you seem to be overweight as on today. A Mediterranean diet & an active lifestyle that includes 45 minutes of walk daily for at least 5 days a week can help you reduce. Given your age, you can go for mammogram on a yearly basis henceforth. Additionally, suggest meet up a genetic counselor too who can assess the risk of breast/ other cancers, if any, and suggest prophylactic measures as contextually appropriate in your case. Hope this helps. Do take care, and all the very best. Sincerely,

I am suffering for blood cancer what type of medicine and exercise I have to take and do.

DNB, MBBS
Oncologist, Faridabad
Sir, you have to take chemotherapy under supervision of medical or hemato oncologist according to type of leukaemia. Blood cancer patients are immunocompromised so must take care of avoiding any kind of infection. No aggressive exercises should be done while on treatment however you can practice yoga, breathing exercises and mild work out, must not exhaust yourself as vigorous exercises can cause spontaneous bleed if platelets are low.

Homoeopathy for Cancer

Cancer is a disease caused by an uncontrolled division of abnormal cells in a part of the body. Cancer is classified according to the organ affected (e.g. Prostate cancer, lung cancer, cervical cancer etc) or type of tissue or cells involved (e.g. Adenocarcinoma of lungs, astrocytoma, osteosarcoma) or according to the stage of disease (usually stage I to IV). The prognosis and treatment of different types and stages of cancer varies.

Homeopathy is a holistic system of medicine which has been used by many practitioners to treat cancer patients. There are historical accounts about homeopathy treatment of cancer and modern literature also gives several case studies of homeopathy for cancer treatment.

Homeopathy treats the person as a whole. It means that homeopathic treatment focuses on the patient as a person, as well as his pathological condition. The homeopathic remedies for cancer are selected after a full individualizing examination and case-analysis, which includes the medical history of the patient, physical and mental constitution etc. A miasmatic tendency (predisposition/susceptibility) is also often taken into account for the treatment of chronic conditions. The homeopathic remedies for cancer given below indicate the therapeutic affinity but this is not a complete and definite guide to the treatment of this condition. The symptoms listed against each remedy may not be directly related to this disease because in homeopathy general symptoms and constitutional indications are also taken into account for selecting a remedy. None of these homeopathic remedies for cancer should be taken without professional advice.

Homeopathic remedies for cancer

Following is the list of some common used homeopathic remedies for cancer.

Calcarea flour, conium, lapis albus, hecla lava, silicea, phytolacca, condurango, baryta carb, baryta mur, mercurius, carcinocin, schirrinum, thuja, hydrastis, plumbum iod, arsenicum album, phosphorus etc.

If you have any questions about the treatment, ask me by clicking on consult.

It is most probably fibroadenoma, a benign lump in the breast. It can be left alone or you can have it surgically removed.

Hey doctor, can you tell what is cancer and how does it occur. Is there any prevention method or cure for this disease?

MBBS
General Physician, Faridabad
Genetic changes that cause cancer can be inherited from our parents. They can also arise during a person’s lifetime as a result of errors that occur as cells divide or because of damage to DNA caused by certain environmental exposures. Cancer-causing environmental exposures include substances, such as the chemicals in tobacco smoke, and radiation, such as ultraviolet rays from the sun. no prevention. thanks

And I am unable to concentrate. What would happen if I get married and gave birth to a female child. What will the child think of his dad. How to treat it, please tell.

I am 19 years old. I am obsessed with female breast. My mind always look at them. I want to get rid of my mind habit....
Attraction to female breasts is inherently built into male psychology so its not much of a wrong thing. But you should concentrate on your work and do not watch porn. Its more like addiction although there is nothing wrong in watching porn stuff. Once you get married and as your age increases with responsibilities coming in most of these urges will go away.
