Hi. I am 45 yrs old suffering from severe pain in teeth and sensitive teethes problem. Please suggest remedy.

BDS
Dentist, Bangalore
Sensitivity is directly related to tooth wear away( cervical abrassion, erosion or attrision).. This is most likely caused my faulty tooth brushing technique or severe gastric regurgitation or by teething.. These problems can be treated either by fillings or night guard or etc.., depending on the diagnosis.. If left untreated, then severe pain is expected which may need RCT if u want to save the teeth.. So plz do visit ur dentist soon for the required treatment...

Brush twice a day and floss daily even when your braces are on. The food particles get stuck into the braces very easily. It is very important to keep them clean.

Sir I have multiple white dots inside of my mouth on inner walls of cheeks since last 20 days. The size of dots are 0.5 mm or less than this. Please suggest what happened to my mouth. I can send pics on your contacts if required. Thanks sir.

Dear lybrate-user, As per your description, you may be having a condition called Recurrent Apthous Stomatitis. This this nothing but the recurrent formation of ulcers in the mouth, it is very normal and you don't have to worry about it. If no pain or burning sensation and no symptoms then it may also be just sebaceous glands (Sweat glands)/ Fordyces Granules (a type of sweat gland in mouth) Few investigations is required as Vit. B12 levels, Folic Acid, Folate, RBCs, Stress evaluation, Constipation or other stomach problem evaluation, etc. Lifestyle evaluation like smoking, diabetes, etc.

•If your cavity in the tooth is caused by decay, your dentist will remove the decayed area and replace it with a filling. •If the pulp inside your tooth is infected, you may need root canal treatment. This procedure involves removing the infected pulp and then inserting a special type of filling to seal the tooth and prevent re-infection.

AMOUNT OF TOOTHPASTE GIVEN TO YOUR CHILDREN.
While brushing your child's teeth give toothpaste of the size of a pea or a fingernail .Excess amount of toothpaste given to your child while brushing will increase the daily intake of fluoride required in the body.Which can be harmful.
thank you.

My brother used to brush every day and he had cavity. How to protect from cavity.

BDS
Dentist, Ahmedabad
Brushing technique is very important aspect for the cleaning of teeth. 6- Cavity Having cavities is not a serious problem at all. Cavities which are not too deep can be excavated and be restored by a dental cement. Cavities that are very deep can be cured by root canal treatment followed by crown ( cap ). For better prevention of cavities , 1- Follow proper brushing technique. 2- Brush twice a day 3-clean your teeth immediately every time after you eat food or liquids. - Do forcefull gargles after every meal. 4- Undergo scaling ( cleaning of teeth) at the interval of every 5-6 months. 5- Visit dentist for regular oral cavity check up every 4 months for the early diagnosis and prevention of dental diseases. 7 Ways Tobacco Affects Your Dental Health!

7 Ways Tobacco Affects Your Dental Health!

Tobacco has many ill effects on the health of an individual. Dental health is equally affected with use of tobacco. From dark stains to poor gum health to increased incidence of decay to the more severe effects like oral cancer, tobacco has a very detrimental effect on your dental health. Read on know more about how harmful tobacco can be on the dental system.

  1. Brown teeth and tongue: One of the tell-tale signs of a smoker are the brown teeth and stained tongue and lips. A dentist need not even be told that the person smokes, it just shows!! What is interesting is that these stains on the teeth do not easily go away with a scaling (Cleaning of teeth), they just continue to form as long as tobacco is being put into the system.
  2. Gum disease: The oral health of a smoker is definitely not at its best. With the stains on the teeth, the gums are more prone for irritation and infection. This leads to grayish, unhealthy gums. The periodontal fibers are also affected, leading to bad breath, pocket formation and even tooth mobility in severe cases. The mouth is generally drier in comparison and so bacterial growth is more favored, further accelerating the process of gum disease and teeth decay.
  3. Dental caries: The increased amount of bacteria and dryness in the mouth leads to greater incidence of dental decay. Chances of cervical decay (decay around the gum line) and root decay are higher in smokers.
  4. Bad breath: Use of tobacco in itself cause bad breath which is exacerbated by dry mouth caused by useof tobacco.
  5. Impaired taste: The tongue has a constant coating too, leaving the taste buds unable to completely taste food substances. Ask any smoker a couple of questions and you would realize how they never get to enjoy and taste the food as it should be.
  6. Poor healing: Whether it is a gum disease, a tooth removal or a root canal therapy, smokers who go for dental treatment need a longer time to respond compared to nonsmokers. If smoking is continued at the same pace, then the chances of developing a dry socket with an extraction or a failed root canal therapy are quite high. There are more failures reported in success of implant in smokers as compared to non smokers.
  7. Cancer: The most dangerous and the most severe of all, cancer of the cheek, gums, lips, tongue, roof of the mouth can all happen in smokers, twice more likely in comparison with non-smokers.

Now, if all these are not good enough to kick the habit, remember this list is only for the mouth and the teeth. The whole body goes through a lot more harmful effects, and that should be a good reason to quit tobacco use in any form. If you need professional help, do not be embarrassed to seek.

I am 21 and I have been smoking from 4 years, 1-3 daily, some days 1 pack a day, now I have ulcer from 3 days, I have been drinking less water from month, and I have ulcer from 3 days, is this symptom of mouth cancer?

Yes it could be a sign of mouth cancer if the ulcer has not healed for atleast 14 days but the correct diagnosis can be made only by conducting an oral biopsy in this region by a dentist.
