Hello I have recently traced that I have thyroid. Upto now I faced with irregular menstrual problems for the past 3 years. And getting treated. Doctors said its hormone imbalance and I used regestrone, primolut etc kind tablets. Upto now. My main fear is. How far it takes to clear this problem. This causes pregnancy issues? I am about to get married.

DGO, MD, MRCOG, CCST, Accredation in Colposcopy
Gynaecologist, Kolkata
There is a possibility that at least in part your irregular periods are due to thyroid dysfunction. Therefore if you take the right dose of thyroxine it should get better .Regesterone or primulut-n do not cause any issues with getting pregnant in the future

I was taking Folvite MB (folic acid 5 mg), methyl cobalamin 1500 mcg and pyridoxine hydrochloride I.P 1.5 mg ) since 12-apr-2016. My LMP was on 01-05-16. I am 15 weeks pregnant. Should I continue taking folic acid or stop it.

DGO, MBBS

You have to start iron and calcium tablets so better visit a gynaecologist who would check your bp, weight and baby's growth and would advise you accordingly.

I am a 16 year old female. My period was really weird this time. I bled very lightly all throughout. Is it normal?

BHMS
Homeopath, Delhi
Hi lybrate-user I suggest you should wait for next period and if that is also not normal then you need to go for some investigations for thyroid and usg abdomen. Right now you should wait as it might happen due to some temporary reasons.

Hello I was 1 month pregnant and took mifty kit, after taking mifepristone I took 2 tablets of misoprostol after 24 hrs, within 20 min of consuming the tablet, I vomited and then again in the evening I took 1 misoprostol and 1 tablet next day in the morning. I have bleeding only for 6 days is it normal or not.

DGO, MBBS
Gynaecologist, Delhi
you might bleed for few more days . After intake of 14 days of mifipristone please get a sonography done to make sure that there is nothing left in uterus that means there are no retained products of conception .

He has had surgery for buccal cavity squamous cell carcinoma n has to undergo radiation fr 45 days can he have a safe sexual relationship without passing infection of any sort.

MBBS, Fellowship in critical care
General Physician, Bangalore
He would not be passing any infection but his partner could definitely pass any kind of infection to him as at this. Stage any infection could be life threatening as he will be immunocompromised due to. Chemo and radiotherapy and not to miss the surgery itself.

I want to know the reason for the recurrence of fungal infection with itching and inflammation. Pls advice medication in topical form and anti- allergic tablet.

MBBS, DGO, DNB (Obstetrics and Gynecology)
Gynaecologist, Chennai
If you have diabetes or if you have lowered immunity you tend to have recurrent fungal infection. Also if your partner also has fungal infection and not treated you tend to have recurrent infection. Both of you get treated simultaneously. Medication can be advised only in private consultation or you get prescription from your gynaecologist.

Ovulation occurs 14 days prior to menses. So calculate the date and do regular sex around that period. Both of you should have healthy diet and stress free life for proper metabolism of your body. If all test of your wife is okay you should get do your semen analysis also.

Vaginal Cysts - Types and Treatment

MD - Obstetrtics & Gynaecology, MBBS

Vaginal Cysts - Types and Treatment

Vaginal cysts are closed packets of fluid, air or pus which develop along the vaginal lining. Vaginal cysts are of many types, and they are usually caused by accumulation of fluids, childbirth-related injuries or non-malignant tumors in the vagina. Usually these cysts do not yield many symptoms, but may cause a little discomfort.

Treatment might not be needed in case of cysts which are tiny. However, larger cysts would definitely warrant medical attention.

Types of Cysts

The commonly occurring cysts are:

  1. Gartner’s Duct Cysts: This duct forms around a woman’s reproductive canal during pregnancy and it disappears post childbirth. If the duct remains even after the delivery, it may lead to fluid accumulation, thus resulting in a cyst.

  2. Vaginal Inclusion Cysts: Any injury to the vaginal walls, especially during childbirth or surgery, can lead to vaginal inclusion cysts.

  3. Bartholin’s Cyst: Bartholin’s gland is situated near the vaginal opening. A flap of skin covering this gland may lead to accumulation of fluid. This fluid accumulation usually leads to a cyst which is called a Bartholin’s cyst.

Treatment

Usually, cysts in the vagina do not require any treatment. Most of the cysts do not grow in size and thus do not cause major problems. A biopsy of the cyst may require in order to rule out chances of cancer. A common treatment for vaginal cysts would be to sit inside a bathtub filled with warm water so that the cyst is allowed to soak in the water. If there are symptoms of infection in the vagina, then antibiotics are required.

If the size of the cyst is large and filled with fluids, then a catheter needs to be inserted into it to drain out the cyst. Usually, the catheter is kept in place for a few weeks before it is removed. A surgical procedure called marsupialization is used in some cases, wherein an incision is made around the affected area and into the cyst in order to drain out its contents.

Surgery to remove the entire cyst may also be recommended to prevent its recurrence. If you wish to discuss about any specific problem, you can consult a doctor and ask a free question.

I want some suggestion. My period is very much regular and always come on time since I have stared having it. But this month instead of full length period I am only spotting 1 or 2 drops a day with bright red blood. I do not know what is going on. It stated on 15 just the date my period was due. I am spotting still with very little almost no cramp. Me nd my husband are trying for baby. I am thinking of taking hpt tomorrow morning. And also I am feeling bloated and have lost appetite.

DGO, MBBS
Gynaecologist, Ahmedabad
Hi lybrate-user, go for urine pregnancy test at earliest and if it turns positive, its good news for you and then you have to consult your doctor at earliest, because of spotting. If upt is negative, then either wait for freeflow of period or confirm by ultrasound/ beta hcg.

CRP is non specific and raised in many conditions. You may be having a minor infection. There's nothing to worry about.

I am 25 years female, 3 months pregnant. I did an ultrasound a month before. Everything is normal apart from occasional pain in my abdomen and tightening of stomach. Doctor suggested me to take Vomilast to stop vomiting sensation and Macfolate for vitamin boost. I have not got time to visit doctor from last 15 days but have continued the medication. Shall I continue or change the medication or else If you could suggest some better medicines.

MD - Obstetrtics & Gynaecology
Gynaecologist, Mumbai
If you r not vomiting now there is no need to continue medicine for vomiting. If nausea is completely stopped then folic acid tablets will be changed to iron and calcium tablets, but it is not urgent. It can be started after 1 month also, in the meantime continue folic acid.
