Thank you for the query. As per the history you have provided, you are hypertensive (BP 130/90 mm of Hg, on Tenormin 25 and Stamlo 5 mg), have hyperlipidemia (raised cholesterol) and non-diabetic. It would be helpful, if you would have posted the reprots of the lipid profile. Itis advisable to maintain your Total cholesterol <200 mg%, LDL <120 mg% and HDL >45 mg%. The Triglyceride level should be <150 mg%. Since you have limited walking capacity, you need to modify on the diet. Reduce the intake of saturated fat (ghee, butter etc) and refined carbohydrate. The Statin (Atorvastatin, Rosuvastatin) group of medications is effective in reducing cholesterol, but should be taken only after consulting your physician. Regards.

I go for regular walking and jogging for at least 45 minutes 5 days a week. I am slightly overweight 83 kgs. I have taken amoxyclav 600 and cough syrup but still the cough is not going away ,can you suggest me better medicine ...
Mr. Lybrate-user, amoxyclav 625 should be taken 3 tablets a day for at least 5 days or longer to get complete relief from any infection including tonsillitis, pharyngitis etc. Another thing to be remembered is that cough usually takes a bit longer to go away. There is no need to change or another antibiotic. Thanks.

I am 23 year old. From past 2 year I am suffering from thyroid. I have problem of weight gain. I am now totally dependent on allopathy medicines. I want to treat it naturally. Is their any way to treat? How can I control my weight gain?

MBBS, CCEBDM, Diploma in Diabetology
Endocrinologist, Hubli-Dharwad
Since the question has appeared in front of me, I thought it is better to clarify certain things to you. Hypothyroidism is a thyroxine deficiency disorder. So the only treatment is to supplement that hormone. There is no other treatment. Weight gain can be controlled, but first tsh levels should be brought down to 3 to 4 milli units. Ml. If presently that level is high, then efforts to control weight will not be effective. Along with drug treatment diet control and exercise are necessary. If you still want t try any other therapy you can go ahead. Best of luck.

I am facing thyroid problem. It is 5.45 THS. Is it dangerous fraction? Which is its normal rage? Our family doctor advised me to take 1 tab daily in the morning for whole life. How can I heal it.

MD - General Medicine
General Physician, Delhi
Tsh value is slightly above normal range, different labs have different normal values. You must be taking levothyroxine, I advise you to continue it for lifetime since it doesn't have any side effects and it will prevent you from many complications arising due to thyroid problem if not taken regularly.
