First get your sugar under control. Then you can have max 2 standard pegs of whisky or a pint of beer per day.

It appears you are suffering from high blood sugar, (diabetes), high bp and dyslipidemia. You seem to also have fatty liver. These conditions must be properly taken care of. You also are obese (bmi 31.227). Please let me know are on any medication now if so what are taking? further how much exercise do you do every day? please furnish this information to help you properly. As regards the food you have to restrict deep fried foods, sweets and even red meat. Total caloric intake also has to be curtailed to reduce excess weight. Avoid tobacco in any form and alcohol completely. I await your information.

Diabetes does not affect the body organs all of sudden, it damages slowly, it is a long drawn process. But if sugar levels are well controlled this process can be almost stopped. So to prevent organ damage, most important action is to control the blood sugar levels.

Diabetes can be controlled/managed by a proper regulated diet and exercise..>> Avoid 3 big meals. Instead take small mini meals every 2/3 hours. Take green vegetables/salad with every minimeal..>> Eat whole grain food/grains like ragi, wheat, jowar instead of refined grains like maida/ sooji/ white bread etc..>> Reduce foods with high GI Index like potato, white rice, banana, mango..>> Avoid all forms of simple sugars like Colas, juices, sweets, cakes, biscuits, pizzas, noodles etc..>> Eat fruits with low/medium GI index like apple, guava, mosambi, orange..>> Do at least 30-45 mins of exercise everyday. Walk for 10 mins after every meal.

Watch your weight. If you are obese then try to lose weight by regular exercise. Eat fresh fruit, vegetables, whole wheat products and some pulses (high in purine) every day. Enjoy low-fat milk and dairy products daily. Keep an eye on the purine content of food. Avoid offal, shellfish and crustaceans and tinned fish such as sardines in oil. Uric acid diet should be relatively high in carbohydrates, moderate in protein and low in fat. Complex carbohydrates like whole grain cereals, fruits and vegetables contain fiber that can help in proper digestion of the foods and assimilation of the nutrients. Eat no more than 100 gm of meat, sausages, fish and poultry a day. Say no to alcohol and sweetened cold drinks. Fresh fruits like apples, bananas, oranges and lime are beneficial. Black cherries are considered to be beneficial in reducing uric acid levels. Drink at least two liters of low-calorie fluids a day. Recommended fluids are water, tea and fruit juice. Please note that normal uric acid levels in our body. Men 3.5 to 7.0 mg/dl, women 2.5 to 5.7 mg/dl.

Do exercise. Eat small frequently. Do not skip meals. Use unrefined foods. Avoid sugar, sweetened juice. No underground vegetables, banana etc. Use healthy fats small amount. Avoid smoking, alcohol. Take stress free rest.

I am 76 years old person and pre diabetic diagnosed in December 2015 and presently I wanted to know that dry dates, chuhara, can be eaten by me or not. I got three replies and all are different. One doctor said it can be eaten, second said it is not advisable and third says that it can be eaten once or twice in a week but none has mentioned the quantity. Dear lybrate-user, I can understand your confusion. Dates are sweet and high calorie food. In diabetes everything can be eaten but in moderation, calories count per day has to be maintained. The best person to answer your question is a diet specialist. But generally moderation is the key regards.

I am a 52 year old diabetic patient. I have a diffusely calcified vessel wall with mild diffuse luminal narrowing in left distal anterior tibial artery and pedis artery showing pulsatile flow with elevated psv. Duffusely calcified wall with echogenic lumen suggestive of thrombosis in left distal posterior tibial artery with collateral reformation distal to occlusion. What should I do ?

Keep your diabetes under perfect control. As far as blockage is concerned treatment depends upon the symptoms. If there is numbness, pain in the foot, foot is colder than the other side, or the foot is becoming weak. Then you need treatment. It may be with medicines or in sever cases surgery may be needed.

For diabetes follow a diet low in carbohydrate, low in fat and high in fibre. Avoid bakery products. Avoid too much rice and potato. Avoid fried stuff. Avoid chocolate, cakes, ice cream, soft drinks and fruit juices. Eat lots of vegetables. Walk for at least 30 minutes a day for 5 days in a week. Insulin will work better if taken in combination with diet and exercise. Medication and insulin dosage will depend on your blood sugar level.
